Overview of the GS1‐128 Data Carrier GS1‐128 (formerly UCC/EAN‐128)

What is an SSCC? SSCC is the Serial Shipping Container Code

A globally unique 18‐digit number that identifies a specific logistics unit of products: 

ll i i bl b f e.g. pallets, air cargo containers, returnable totes, boxes for parcel delivery, etc.

Used as a reference number (license plate) only

Used inside Advance Ship Notice (ASN, EDI 856)

A global standard within the GS1 System g y

If shipping an over-wrapped pallet (e.g., wrapped in plastic), the same guidance as above applies; it is recommended the label be placed on top of the plastic, not underneath. The bar code should be placed on the upper right half of the load, but the bottom edge of the symbol should not be higher than 32 inches from the bottom of the unit load.
