Kelvingrove Friendsof [email protected] SPRING 2017 WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Although you see all the fundraising events going on in the school, you may not be aware of where how these efforts benefit the school. So far, the PTA has purchased the school a fabulous new stage, much needed gazebos and some outdoor lighting. Our focus now is on the playground space. We plan to spend the bulk of the £12,000 we have on improving our playground spaces. We feel this is where improvements are most needed and where all children will benefit from our efforts. We have already ordered £1,000 worth of much needed sports equipment (including nets, balls and rackets!) for the Paxton and main playgrounds. Our vision, however, is much bigger than just getting equipment. We are working closely with Mr Hyde and Jo N’disang. Jo runs the playgrounds as well as the newly appointed school council (pupils from each year group yr 2 and up) and together we want to make big changes to our outdoor space. We have also been in touch with a local artist who is famous for transforming spaces. She has visited the school and we look forward to hearing her ideas. The process may take place over a number of years but we hope you will start seeing changes soon! Here are a few initial ideas from our mood board so you get a feel of what we are after; bright, colourful and interactive spaces to make an impact on the children and add a wow factor to the school. nightLine WALk 2017Join us for a fantastic event that challenges you and raises money towards our children’s outdoor learning too!

This June, KG will again be taking part in The Nightline Walk - a 25km or 50km walk across urban London and beautiful Kent countryside

The walk is organised by Wide Horizons, a charity promoting outdoor adventure learning who we’ve worked with for over 5 years.

Sponsorship money raised from the walk pro-vides KG pupils and teachers with unforgettable outdoor adventure learning. All money raised by Kelvin Grove is matched and spent on activities for our students such as:

• Forest School linked Outreach Sessions to the Upper Key Stage pupils led by a Wide Horizons Outreach Teacher

• Curriculum based and team-building activities at a Wide Horizons Education Centre• Professional Development courses for teachers to incorporate outdoor learning

activities into the curriculum/topic teaching.Staff have participated in the Nightline Walk for the past three years. Last year they

raised nearly £800! We’d love to have more teachers and parents involved this year. You can participate by signing up at www.widehorizons.org.uk/nightline or donate via the KG fundraising page. This years evenT Takes place on June 24Th sign up aT www.wiDehorizons.org.uk/nighTline or speak To Mrs BallarD, Ms DeaDMan or Mr Murray.

tomboLA giFtCome in non-uniform on the 7th June and bring an unwanted gift which we use for the ever popular tombola stall. This can be anything from bubble bath to notebooks, toys or wine. Please do ensure that all gifts are new and unopened.Bring ToMBola gifT on June 7Th

A3 sheets will be handed out before the May half term. The sheets will include all the information for the summer fair so all that is left to do is get those creative juices going and hand in your masterpiece to the office or your teach-er by the deadline. Winning posters will be used to advertise the fair.DeaDline June 5th

A significant amount of the money raised at last year’s summer fair was raised through people’s companies that run ‘matched funding’ schemes. This means that you can apply to your company to match £ for £ the money you help to raise. (Yes this does mean you would have to volunteer at the fair) Last year an additional £1250 was raised through this method! A third of the total! This is a fantastic (and very simple!) way to increase our totals. If your company offers this scheme please signing up or get in touch for further information. Thank you.

Our Summer Fair plans are already underway and we are all extremely excited about it! This year’s fair theme is ‘At the movies’. A celebration of all the great children’s films over the years. Think: red carpets, popcorn, ka-raoke, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, choc-olate fountain, cocktails, and people dressed up as characters from various films, as well as lots of different games and activities... It is set to be a fair to remember!

your help!As always we need your help and input to put this together!

We need people to volunteer to ask for donations from businesses in the area, look after stalls on the day, as well as doing lots of preparation jobs in the run up to the fair. Please contact us directly if you think you can help, or look out for further info on our facebook page/friendsofkelvingrove(PTA).
