Background Information Tallapoosa Primary Haralson County Georgia 94.3% of the students are Caucasian 47.2% are on free or reduced lunch 1st grade classroom ages 6-7 All white in my First Grade class My classroom had 22 students Most students do not come from a

traditional home life.

Classroom Environment The classroom is an inclusion class There are 22 students There are 2 paraprofessionals that come

in the room at different times Student “A” stays mostly to himself,

does not act out often

Student “A” Student “A” is a 7 year old boy who comes from a

nontraditional home life When I first started observing he had just tested out

of Special Education He does not pay attention in class and will find other

things to do, while the teacher is talking. When asked to finish work, he does it with ease, he is

on a Second Grade reading level. He always wants to help others Now that student “A” has tested out of Special

Education, he is now in the process for getting tested for the Gifted Program next year.

Theories Learning style because Student A is always doing

something else when the teacher is talking, he is either drawing or he is reading, but when asked to do the a worksheet he understands it.

Student “A” is an example of ZPD by Vygotsky because he knows the things he understands, but when faced with something new he asks for help.

Student “A” liked when he did something on his own. He needs the positive reinforcement letting him know that he was doing good.

Page 7: Psychology Application Project

Application The teacher encouraged student “A” to

come in every morning and get a book to read, by doing this he found that his learning style for reading was enhanced and if he not know something he did what he could and then asked for help.

I saw this as motivation for student “A” she wants him succeed, and by encouraging him to read, he was motivated to see what he could do when reading.
