types of

eyeliner

and how to

use them

If you are just beginning to wear makeup, you may be overwhelmed by the many types and brands of eyeliners out there. Depending on what look you want to achieve, you will want to use different eye-liners to get that desired result. Listed below are the best examples of eyeliners I know of, and the most common ways to apply them.

By:

MAKEUP GEEK

Liquid Eyeliner

This is the most difficult to apply as it is very bold and slick. Liquid eyeliner generally comes in a tube with a brush that pulls out with the liquid on it. This is the most difficult liner to apply, so I recommend trying other types before using liquid liner.

You need a steady hand, and should apply by brushing short strokes close to the lash line. Start at the middle of the eye, directly above the upper lashes, and SLOWLY brush across the lash line. Then, start at the inner part of the eye and continue to brush until you reach the middle of your eye that you began with.

PROS:- Great for Arabic makeup, cat eyes, and dramatic looks.- Provides a well-defined, thin line which makes the eyelashes look thicker

CONS:- Very difficult to apply well.- Takes a steady hand, patience, and prac-tice practice practice!

Pencil Eyeliner

This is the most commonly used liner as it is very easy to manage and control. Pen-cil eyeliners are just like any other pencil that you sharpen when needed. To apply, you simply “draw” on the line close to your lashline.

If you would like to have a color on your waterline, these are generally the best type to use. You DO need to look for ones that are ophthalmologist tested in order to prevent irritation in the eye.

PROS:- Very easy to control.- Comes in a wide range of colors.- Very common and easy to find in every brand of makeup.

CONS:- Very difficult to apply well.- Unless you sharpen really well, it does not provide as crisp a line.

Gel/Cream Eyeliner

This liner has been used more by profes-sional makeup artists than the mainstream public, but it is becoming more common. Cream eyeliners generally come in a pot that you can dip an angled brush, fine tip brush, or even a pencil eyeliner in to get the product out. It can even be used as a creamy base underneath eyeshadows.

If you use a brush to apply, you will need a slightly steady hand as it is creamy and glides pretty easily. Since this liner takes a bit longer to dry, it is great for smudging along the lashline.

PROS:- Very creamy and easy to smudge.- Great for smokey eyes.

CONS:- Not as portable as a pencil eyeliner.

Gel/Cream Eyeliner

This is the fastest and easiest way to line your lashes. All you need is a stiff, angled brush or a pencil brush. To apply, simply dip your brush into the eyeshadow of your choice and “draw” or smudge along the up-per and/or lower lashline. You CANNOT use this on your waterline- it will not stick, and it will really irritate your eyes.

Eyeshadow lining is great for a more subtle daytime look. Plus, the color possibilities are endless! You could even use the pencil brush to smudge the eyeshadow on top.

PROS:- Multiple colors to choose from.- Easy to apply.

CONS:- Cannot be used on the waterline.- Does not last as long as other eyeliners do.

sunkissed cheeks!

top blushes for this summer!

Blush, which has been around since at least 3000 BC and now comes in powder, cream, gel, and liquid, adds color to your cheeks, giving you a rosy glow. Blush is made from FDA-approved colorants or dyes. These pigments appear on the label as a color and number, such as Red 33, Yellow 5, or Red Lake 6 really interesting right.

By themselves, these colorants are so concentrated they’d show up as intensely vivid dots on your skin. Chemists add fillers, such as talc and stearic, a natural fatty acid, to dilute the pigment. Coverage or concealing pigments, including mica, zinc oxide, and titanium oxide, are also added to the mix of the making of the blush.

Next, we are giving you a fe tips to get that perfect blush to your daily life, this little blush trick will give you that “just back from the beach glow” - even if you’ve just been hangin’ out at home.

This is such an easy way to switch up the look of your blush, so easy that it will just surprise you , you can do it everyday! We just thought it was a weird little step that we took in the makeup routine. However, it is kind of it’s own technique considering there are a few specific steps we advice you to take when you want to get this specific blush glow.

1. Grab a really bright, cool-toned pink blush. Think neon! I know it sounds crazy but you’ll have to use less of the product to get it to show up and it will really give you that youthful-looking flush, like you’ve just gotten a little sun.

2. Apply the color to the top of your cheek bones, not the apples (save that for your bronzer). You want to think about applying it to the area on your cheek where you would normally apply a highlighting product. This is where we naturally flush when our blood is really flowing or when we’ve spent the day on the beach.

3. No sun-kissed look would be complete without a little bronzer! Start applying the color to the hollows of your cheeks like you normally would, then blend the color in towards the apples of your cheeks and up a bit to meet the blush color. We want to make sure that we concentrate on the apples because we didn’t apply any blush there.

MAC Beach Glow. This is the most expensive blush out of the selection but it’s so wirth it! And it is a water-based formula that gives cheeks a lasting and subtle lit-from-within glow. But you can also built up the colour for a more dramatic look with a bronzer.

RIMMEL Trio Toast. If you want a great quality blush but can’t afford to pay a lot, you should check this one out. It is very pigmented and although it is really small you actually need the tiniest amount of it. I like how it looks like on the skin and the effect it gives .

SMASHBOX Strawberry Splash. This is prob-ably the most unique blush design you’ll ever seen and everyone will ask you about your Smashbox products as they look so different from everything else. This blush is said to be made of essential oils, rose water and vitamins C and E.

CLINIQUE Flowe Power. It has a lovely light texture which is a pleasure to use and which blends nicely into the skin. The shade that I have gives a natural peachy colour to the cheeks. It will be your daily favorite!

URBAN DECAY Rose. Now this is a famous blusher and it is certainly a favourite of a lot of people! It is a flattering warm coral pink which has a great pigmentation and goes on smoothly on the skin. It is perfect for spring/summer season as it immediately perks up your complexion.

NARS Orange by Pierre Hardy. NARS is known for having the best high end blush-es. Their color “Orange” has won an award every year. BUT, also try the color Amour as it is a beautiful matte finish warm pink that is flattering on every skin color.

Her bezzie mate is Rita Ora. The pair are so close that Cara refers to her as her ‘wifey’. She mightbe a professional clothes horse but that doesn’t mean she loves everything about fashion - es-peciallywearing high heels, which she admits is her least favourite thing about the job. Cara got the acting bug after making her big screen debut alongside Keira Knightley asPrincess Sorokina in ‘Anna Karenina’. 10Cara Delevingne is the face of Burberry Beauty alongside fellow Brit models Sasha, Cohen, Edie Campbell and Jourdan Dunn. She was also the face of Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2012 campaign with Eddie Redmayne, which was shot by the super-talented Mario Testino.

As hundreds of models have strutted down catwalks in New York and London this month for the fall fashion shows, one face has emerged from the crowd -- British model Cara Delevingne.

At New York Fashion Week last week Delevingne, 20, walked in 13 shows, including Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta, and in London this week she sashayed in various shows, for Burberry, having previously modeled for Stella McCartney.Milan and Paris come next.

The catwalk success of the British model, whose strong eyebrows and snub nose are her defining features, has Brit-ain’s press stalking her every move and has drawn comparisons to the attention once garnered by fellow Briton KateMoss. Open a fashion magazine or the social pages of a newspaper and there is Delevingne, with the model gracingthe March issue of British Vogue while also partying with the A-list crowd including singers Rihanna and Rita Ora.She is plastered on billboards across London as the face of Inditex’s high street chain Zara and has built a large socialmedia following, by posting photos of her modeling, partying and napping, attracting 468,000 Twitter followers.“She has this unique striking look, which is almost part Brigitte Bardot, but then mixed with an elfin quirkiness. There’sa rarity about her look, which has put her on the map and into countless campaigns and runways,” said CarmenBorgonovo, fashion director at online boutique my-wardrobe.com. Moss, 39, and Delevingne do have something incommon - the same scout. Really interesting right?

Sarah Doukas, who spotted 14-year-old Moss at a New York airport in 1988, was the first to see the potential of Dele-vingne at a fashion show at her daughter’s private school, Bedales. She signed her up to Storm Model Managementin 2009. So that’s when Cara started her model career in the fashion industry.

But unlike Moss, Delevingne comes from a privileged background - as her attendance at the 30,000 pounds ($46,000)a year school Bedales suggests.

She is the granddaughter of former English Heritage chairman Sir Jocelyn Stevens, founder of the 1960s pirate radiostation Radio Caroline, and grew up in the wealthy London suburb of Belgravia with her father, a property developer, and her mother, a personal shopper. Her sister Poppy is also a model.

Cara Delevingne is a style icon in her own right, but that doesn’t stop her admiring the fashion sense of her famous peers. So whose wardrobe does she really want to raid? Alexa Chung, and her best friend Coco Sumner. She told The Telegraph: “They have their own indi-vidual style and have remained true to it. I think it’s really important to stay true to yourself.”

Cara Delevingne made her Victoria’s Secret debut at the lingerie brand’s annual fashion show in November 2012, alongside Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio and Jourdan Dunn. And she revealed she even had a McDonald’s the day before the show, saying: “I had Mc-Donald’s for lunch and pizza for dinner. I need to eat a lot otherwise I feel faint - I get in the worst moods if I don’t eat.” That’s our girl.

In November 2012, Cara Delevingne was named Model Of The Year at the British Fash-ion Awards. She said: “It’s completely mad. It’s only just starting to sink in. When they say your name, it’s like one of those Zoolander mo-ments when you think they’ve said the wrong name. It’s out of this world. I never thought this would happen.” And THIS is why we love her.

The Victoria’s Secret 2012 Show might have been Cara Delevingne’s first, but she’s no stranger to the catwalk. She’s walked the runway for brands such as Shiatzy Chen, Ja-son Wu, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Stella McCartney, Chanel and Donna Karan. Wow! Really impressive right?!

Cara Delevingne had a small part in the 2012 film remake of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina,along-side Keira Knightley and Jude Law, two big stars. She starred as Princess Sorokina, who Count Vronsky (who was played by Aaron Johnson and had an affair with Keira’s char-acter, Anna), took a liking to. She made Anna insanely jealous because she’s so beautiful!

Talking about her big break into modelling, Cara says: “I’ve been best-friends with Gene-vieve Garner, daughter of Sarah Doukas [CEO of Storm Model Mangagement] since I was five. Sarah saw me when she came to our school and Gen introduced us. I had never thought about modelling before, and it just happened.”

Talking about her favourite fashion labels, Cara Delevingne says: “I love Christopher Bailey and Burberry, Mulberry for bags, and Hudson for jeans. I like a little bit of designer, with a bit of vintage and high street mixed in. “I love it when you find those one off key pieces, which end up becoming investment pieces. I always go for comfort, and like feeling confident and casual.”

Cara Delevingne loves her music, and if she wasn’t a model, she’d like to work in the re-cord industry. But NOT in front of the camera. She says: “If I was rich enough, I would love to launch my own record label, i just love music. I would love to try and give all my musically talented friends a start in the industry.” Aww!

TOP 10 EYESHADOWS BRANDS FOR THIS SUMMER BY MAKEUP GEEK

The name for this powder shadow is fitting as it’s extremely shimmery, reflective and fun. A keyhole atop each neat, black circular case allows you to peek inside at the soft, feminine shade (there are three available). The pressed powder is easy to blend and crease-free, but color may fade by the end of a long day. (Sadly, no brush is included for on-the-go reapplication.) Tip: Applying the shadow wet makes otherwise light coverage result in a richer color.

Colour Surge Eye Shadow goes on smoothly, feels weightless and has a shimmer factor just one step above matte -- no glitter or high sparkle. There was no creasing at all -- a rarity for my oily lids -- and the color only slightly faded by day’s end. Overall, it’s a keeper.

This modern compact will be with me if I’m ever stranded on an island. It’s expensive, which is why it feels like silk and stays on almost all day. Matte neutrals make reliable, crease-resistant base colors while irides-cents and bolds can be worn sheer or dramatically layered.

This velvety-smooth eye shadow has an ideal amount of shimmer that’s not at all glittery. It adds a sheen to your lids that’s eye-catching, but not over-the-top shiny. (Still, this shimmer is not ideal for mature skin.) The powder applies and blends easily, and doesn’t crumble onto your cheeks throughout the day.

L’Oreal’s HiP line consistently proves that good things come in small packages. This double-sided compact is a giant bargain that fits snugly in the palm of your hand. Color combos with names like Sassy and Saucy go on soft when dry and bold when wet. Left alone, pigments won’t budge from lids.

Made for the daring, most of the 12 Urban Decay Deluxe Eye Shad-ow powders are intense and fluorescent anything but subtle. The high-quality shadow feels soft and won’t crease or fade. Shimmery shades deliver medium-high sheen. Apply carefully as color doesn’t blend easily great for staying power but bad if you’ve applied too.

Shocking is right! This deceptively tiny pot of loose shadow lasts long and actually delivers a professional look at drugstore prices. The built-in sifter isn’t spill-proof but controls application. The crowning achievement is the compact, pro-quality brush, included but sepa-rate from the shadow.

LORAC’s On Screen Duo contains a powder and cream shadow that together will get your eyes red-carpet ready. The frosty finish of the pressed powder shadow (which contains reportedly blem-ish-friendly white lily extract) makes it perfect for highlighting. The darker cream shadow works well as liner or over the lid for more drama. By day’s end, the cream shadow had faded a little but there was no creasing

- When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge. Get to close to the eye and you’ll cause your eyes to look teeny and beady.

- Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours. I’ve found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base, or primer. Almost everyone makes them but I swear by Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. Apply Urban Decay Primer Potion at the beginning of the day and sweep your favorite Christian Dior shadow over it and the shadow stays on all day long with nary a smudge, even through hardcore workouts with my personal trainer. You cannot beat that.

- Making up a smokey eye? Keep color to the lid and just under the lower lashline. Don’t extend color above the crease..

These tiny, round pots offer a little something for everyone with more than 150 shades to choose from. Lids flip open to control mess and product stays on eyelids without powdering off midday. With a wet brush, the shadow doubles as liner.

You’ll need to pile on the shadow in the Sonia Kashuk Powder Part-ners Eye Shadow Duo before the colors show up at all, but once they’re there, they hang in all day without fading or creasing. Having two colors in one small, mirrored compact makes it a versatile travel
