    Nowadays a phenomenon

    seems to be present in

    English classes. It is

    students panic when

    speaking . Thus, we havethought of a strategy that let

    them acquire confidence in

    order to improve their

    English speaking skills.

    Age: 11 to 19 High Schools (Sixth to Eleventh grade)

    Time: 2 weeks

    Tools: Interesting plays according to students

    motivation. Videos concerning plays. VocabularyWorksheet.

    Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle, Sleepy Hollow by

    Washington Irving, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

    Short stories or scary tales such a Supernatural Talesby Edgar Allan Poe, The House of the Baskervilles by

    Arthur Conan Doyle, or a classical play like Hamlet by

    William Shakespeare.

    OBJECTIVES

    General Objective: To foster the oral communication in Primary and High School students.

    Specific Objective: To help students to overtake their fears in English speaking.

    To improve the English pronunciation in students.

    To allow students to uncover their talents concerning to theater.

    To avoid routine in English Classes.

    To enhance students autonomy. To acquire Cultural, literary, and artistic knowledge.

    PROCESS

    First Week: Watching a video about the play in

    order to motivate students to take

    part in.

    Reading of the play explaining themain theme of the story.

    To develop a short analysis about

    the play.

    To study the main characters and

    the context of the story.

    To explore about the author of the

    story

    To teach vocabulary with specific

    exercises

    To work the pronunciation and

    intonation of linguistic patterns

    SECOND WEEK

    Second Week

    To rehearse the playbearing in mind teachers

    instructions, providing atheater workshop.

    (Pronunciation, Intonation,

    body language)

    To perform the play in frontof the class, then in a school

    festival.

    EVALUATION

    To organize a round table where students can tell

    their experiences.

    To write a comment concerning the experience.

    To give a feedback in order to correct some mistakes,and also to motivate students to go on performing

    plays.

    Reflection

    Learning English through theatre activities allow students

    to use the target language in a meaningful

    communicative manner.

    Activities such as studying the script, memorizing lines,

    learning characterization, rehearsal, working with native

    speakers, and finally

    Performance immerses learners in the target language in

    two contexts the text and the production.

    Through Theater students enjoy English learning

    themselves.
