On behalf of the Indonesia National Air Carriers Association (INACA) and our 34 airline members, I would like to welcome you back to the 6th Indonesia Aviation Training & Education Conference (IATEC) 2020. This event will be held on the 24th – 25th June 2020 at the Holiday Inn & Suites Hotel Jakarta Gajah Mada and exclusively produced by Avcon Group.

Indonesia’s aviation sector has been growing at a brisk pace in terms of passengers, airlines, fleets, flights, and airports. The growth of the aviation market in Indonesia can be seen to be a result of the growing middle-classes, and the rise of the low-cost carriers. With an expected growth of 5.4 per cent, IATA predicts that Indonesia will become the world’s fourth largest air travel market by 2036, with around 355 million passengers predicted to fly from and within Indonesia by 2034. It suggests a need for Indonesia to adopt a more comprehensive and effective human resource frame-work which involves the future industry demand for pilots, air traffic controllers, ground handlers, airport managers and all other aviation related skills.

Since 2012, the IATEC series of aviation training and education focused summits has been at the forefront of Indonesia’s aviation sector. These conferences have brought together hundreds of high-level executives and decision makers from airlines, flying schools, aviation training centres, aviation regulators and equipment & solution providers from Indonesia and the rest of the world. IATEC is focused on the future growth of Indonesia’s aviation training and education sector.

IATEC 2020 will be an important marketing and networking platform for key industry players around the world to participate and access opportunities, to support the growing need for world class aviation training and education in Indonesia.

Indonesia has recorded a steady growth of domestic air travelers, from 71.63 million passengers departing on domestic flights and 73.89 million passengers arriving on domestic flights in 2014; to 72.56 million and 75.59 million passengers, respectively, in 2015; to 83.35 million and 87.21 million passengers in 2016; and to 90.74 million and 95.40 million passengers in 2017. Indonesia is widely regarded as an emerging global market for air travel. The country is ranked as having the second-fastest growing aviation industry in the world after China in term of aircraft order and business value.

The estimated growth of the aviation industry is typically 2.5 times that of economic growth. This points to the immense growth potential of the industry in tandem with the economy. Hence, it is expected that by 2035, 310 million air passengers will contribute to approximately US$50 billion to Indonesia’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The rapid increase in the number of air passengers in the past few years has demanded a substantial increase in air transportation infrastructure such as airports, particularly those serving domestic routes and destinations. In response, the government has been ambitiously developing 15 new airports under the 2015-2019 national medium-term development program (RPJMN) and is planning to develop 12 more in the 2020- 2024 RPJMN.

It is predicted that Indonesia will be the fourth fastest growing aviation market in terms of annual addition origin-destination passengers from 2017 to 2037 after China, US, and India with 282 million new passengers for a total of 411 million. IATA Annual Review 2019 also suggested that Indonesia is currently the 4th largest O-D air passenger markets after US, China, and India.
