to all our new Year 7s AND to our new STAFFYou have joined us at a very strange time but we are delighted with
how quickly you have settled in and are enjoying your learning.
A very warm welcome also to our new Year 12s, both those who were
with us in Year 11 and those joining us from other schools!
We are also very pleased to welcome our new staff: Mr Du Preez (Head of
English), Mrs Bell (Head of Maths), Mr Dixon (History), Miss Russell (Science),
Mr Assuon (Maths), Mrs Mishra (Maths), Miss Daborn (MFL) and Miss Clyne
(Learning Mentor), as well as Mr Lyddon (Head of North House) and Mrs
Gerrard (Head of East House) who joined us in April but have only just met
us all properly. We hope you will all be very happy at Prospect and we look
forward to getting to know you and enjoying learning with you!

When we said goodbye to you all on 20th March, I had no idea that it would be another 170 days until we were open again but I am absolutely delighted that last week, we were able to welcome you all back, as well as nearly two hundred new Year 7s, nearly one hundred students into Year 12 and ten new members of staff.

There are many parts of Prospect that are very different to when
we were last here. Apart from the superb job done by the cleaning
team who have deep cleaned every room in the school (and
continue to clean, polish and sanitise throughout the day), we have
installed new murals in Maths, MFL, Science, the Sixth Form and
Music and Drama, put barriers up, painted classroom numbers in
the playgrounds and completely reorganised the school to create
separate year-group bubbles. We know that some of these
changes are a real challenge but I would like to reiterate that
everything we have done since we closed has been to keep
our students and staff safe and ensure that we can stay open
throughout the winter and the coming year.
Prospect remains a school of very high aspiration, where we
believe and expect every student to do their very best. It is
essential that every student is in school, every day,
notwithstanding those who cannot be in because they are unwell
or isolating. For these students, work is provided via our MS Teams
portal and we will do all we can to support their learning.
However, this is not the time to have a day off for any other
reason. Our students have missed weeks of school and every day
is important in catching up on missed learning, as well as social
time with friends. We do recognise the difficulties faced in getting
Covid tests at the moment, which is why it is even more important
that if you can be in school, you MUST be in school.
This time last year, we started the year full of excitement and high
hopes, with no idea of what was to come. In many ways, we start
this year exactly the same, although we know that things could
become very different again. We will do everything that we can to
keep the school open, ensure that we are delivering the high
quality teaching and learning and providing our students with the
support that they need. I am, however, certain that whatever the
next year brings, it is the strength of the Prospect community that
will see us through it all together.

NEW WALL GRAPHICSOver the summer, we’ve been working with Creative Scrum to further
enhance our spaces. We have installed new wall graphics to brighten
the learning environment.
This is our fabulous entrance to Music and Drama at Honey End Lane.
How could we have known that this would turn out to be our very
own tribute to the iconic Black Panther? A very deserved place among
many other greats!

European day of Languages Here at Prospect, we are so fortunate to have such a wonderfully
diverse population of students and staff from many different countries
with more than 25 languages spoken amongst the staff and students.
We will once again be celebrating this incredible diversity and the
wonders of learning a language on 26th September 2020, which is
the European day of Languages.
Competition
We would like to invite all students to take part in a competition
to see if you can say ‘hello’, ‘my name is...’ and ‘how are you?’
in as many different languages as possible.
The highest number will receive a reward from the Languages
department, so get your thinking caps on!
You can hand your answers to your tutors. The winner will also
receive 50 housepoints for their House.
Bonne chance/ viel Glück,
Frau Schmidt, Madame Mumford, Frau McCavish, Madame
Bosely, Frau Grün und Madame Daborn.

With nearly 100 students joining our Sixth Form this September, the
common room rarely looks this empty…so this is a good opportunity

THE DEPUTY HEADS
So here were are! Back at school after over 22 weeks apart....
I for one am glad to have you all back – learning and socialising,
albeit with a lot of changes and new rules and procedures to follow.
It is strange for you not to be able to walk the school site and have to
remain contained within your year ‘bubble’ – but we must do what
we can to ensure the safety of everyone. I know that I have no
choice, but I hope I can get used to wearing the mask and
remembering to speak up so I can be heard!
It certainly has been a start to the year like no other and we hope
that it is not something that we have to repeat.
However, we have welcomed new staff and students to the school -
many in North House and we have already accrued a lot of reward
points for the house which is fantastic! I know that some of you have
already been given postcards for doing really well and I hope that we
can give out even more as the term progresses. Congratulations to
the following students who currently have the most reward points in
North House:
• Gabriella Copas-Kemsley
• Cara Moriarty
• Tea Kamberaj
• Shanyce-Renault Honor
• Maria Trifan
• Luke Campbell
A special mention must go to all the year 7s who completed such
excellent lockdown homework tasks! From what I have seen, you
have put a great deal of effort into producing some fantastic work.
WELL DONE YEAR 7!
For the vast majority of you, it has been a really positive start to the
year and you have adapted to the new ‘normal’ very well. Please
remember to maintain the high expectations that the school has
(and you should have of yourselves) so that we can keep every lesson
a positive learning environment.
Stay in your bubbles. Wash your hands. Wear your masks.
Keep your distance. Do your best.
And remember, North is always on top!

MrS GERRARDDear East House,
It’s so lovely to finally meet you all in real life. I’ve been
looking forward to this moment since I started as your new
Head of House in April! I was incredibly proud when we
won the one and only “online inter house competition”.
From that point onwards I realised how strong we are as
a House! I hope we will continue to work hard, believe
in ourselves, achieve the impossible and win many other
future events!
I have been enjoying myself by teaching geography and
well-being to so many Prospect and East House students.
Your enthusiasm and eagerness to learn hasn’t gone
unnoticed. As a result we are in second place on the leader
board, I hope by next week we have overtaken South House
and are in 1st place! I know we can do this if we are
determined to work hard in every lesson and make every
lesson count.
I would like to put a few of our East House students in the
spotlight as they have worked above and beyond for the
past week. Rhianna Sandford and Max Borecki in Year 7,
Fazlic Haris and L’Shae Perkins in Year 8, Kai Furnivall and
Haneefa Khan in Year 9, Cullen Perrin and Skye Timmis in
Year 10 and Israel Losier and Callum Timmis in Year 11.
I hope all Year 7 students have settled in and enjoyed their
first week in secondary school. Some students have started
the school year remarkably by bringing in their summer
booklets, the following students have worked extremely
hard and deserve a lot of recognition for their hard work:
Anaya-Akhousia Boahene, Bruna Aguiar and Abihnav Kunta.
As always, if you would like any support please do not
hesitate to email me or send a message on MSTeams!
Mrs Gerrard, Head of East House

Mr GerrardDear South House,
It’s an absolute pleasure to be back teaching and being
a HOH for real people in real life! Without a doubt, I have
missed you and I am so happy to be back. In part, this
is because it’s great coming back knowing that, for two
years running, South House are the Festival of Sport
winners. Hopefully, the only ever ‘virtual winners’ is
something we can never be defeated in. I’m also proud
that we earned the most positive house points in the
academic year. Please let’s continue to be the best and
set an example for the other Houses.
To continue from last year’s success, South House has
made a great start to the year - top of the leader board
for the first week of school. I have also had the pleasure
of teaching wellbeing to many students in South House,
which will continue this year. I have been so impressed
with the attitude and ability of students in these classes,
it’s a pleasure to see you respecting each other in discussions
and valuing each other’s opinions.
With a greater focus on positive points, congratulations to
John Howard 7SB, Danny Eaton 8SB, Immanuel Brown 9SB,
Charlotte Manning 10SB and Ivan Perejon 11SB who are top
of their year groups for positive points.
On a final note, welcome to all the year 7s. You have made
a really positive start. A special mention to Luca Rea,
Callum Baynham, Rub Richardson, Oliver Henderson
and Julinda Haxhiu for their outstanding transition
booklets completed over the summer holidays.
There really is some great work that reflects the
positivity and the potential of the year group.
Thank you for a great start and keep it up!

Shout-outsPE
It’s been a brilliant two weeks in PE and
we have been so happy to welcome
back pupils for some non-virtual PE
lessons! Our PE lessons have focused on
rambling and how to steadily build up
exercise after a sedentary period. With
the weather also being incredibly warm
(not that we’re complaining!), it also gave
us an opportunity to explore exercise
that could be safely conducted in these
temperatures. During the past two weeks
we have had some amazing lap counts
recorded and below are a handful of
students who have really excelled and
demonstrated some of our core values in
PE – effort and determination. Well done!
• Kartel Forde (Y10) – 9 laps
• Joe Foster (Y10) – 7 laps
• Ajmal Safi (Y10) – 7 laps
• Aliyah Jamil (Y10) – 6 laps
• Jamari Lampkin (Y8) – 4 laps
Our theory classes have also been
returning to normal with our BTEC and
GCSE students continuing on from the
hard work that was completed during the
lockdown period. Miss Mudge has been
particularly impressed with her Y10 BTEC
Sport class and would like to acknowledge
their excellent attitude towards learning so
far – keep it up!.
