Jack Bennett 13PH Media-Idents Proposal The Discovery channel is a very well known and famous television channel, promoting educational and entertaining programs featuring science, aviation, fishing, nature and a great many other subjects of interest. It is said in the Discovery channel mission statement that the channel targets a “20+ mostly male, mainstream audience”. The channel has also branched into several different channels all run by Discovery, specializing in different subjects such as history, science and engineering. I want to show the transition of analogue to digital, but I also have an idea for what to do in case I wish to show something else. My current idea’s are: -An exploding analogue TV, zooming out to be a video in the globe of the logo. Show the transition of analogue to digital, also represents some of the shows such as mythbusters that do this sort of thing. -Blueprints being broken down, zooming out to be in the globe of the logo. (Relate to analogue change) Similar to an older Ident used by the channel. -Radio tower being demolished, zooming out to be in the globe of the logo. Shows the transition from analogue to digital. -A panning image of a natural landscape. (My original idea) Shows the channels educational documentary status. -A mechanical press stamps a metallic ‘D’ onto the screen. How will these ideas express the channel’s identity?

My inspiration was mixed and varied from different forms of media including: Pictures, CDcovers, art, music, television adverts and ident’s (both fan made and professional) I was interested in Spaceand seeing as this is a topic that Discovery seem to have many shows about I thought that this was a good decision to make. I decided to make an ident based on the alignment of the planets and make it animated using Adobe Flash. Jack Bennett 13PH Media-Idents Proposal Jack Bennett 13PH Media-Idents

Proposal

The Discovery channel is a very well known and famous television channel, promoting educational and entertaining programs featuring science, aviation, fishing, nature and a great many other subjects of interest.

My current idea’s are:

-An exploding analogue TV, zooming out to be a video in the globe of the logo.

Each of these idea’s are in some way related to programs that discovery have aired, for example “Destroyed in seconds!” is a show that focuses around demolitions, so the explosions and such will fit in nicely. Also, past ident’s that discovery have aired contain similar content as the footage shown in mine.

My inspiration was mixed and varied from different forms of media including: Pictures, CD covers, art, music, television adverts and ident’s (both fan made and professional)

I was interested in Space and seeing as this is a topic that Discovery seem to have many shows about I thought that this was a good decision to make. I decided to

make an ident based on the alignment of the planets and make it animated using Adobe Flash.
