BackgroundThe Hawiyah gas plant currently processes 2.5 billion
cubic feet per day (scfd) of gas. The expansion project is meant to process an additional 1,260 MMSCFD of raw sweet gas from the South Ghawar Region. Once completed, contractors will have installed 2,900 km of pipelines, including construction and modification of multiple associated facilities.
Project StatusIn Jan 2020, Franke-Filter was preparing to ship the
final nine FF2-066 oil mist eliminators for the Hawiyah Gas Plant Expansion project.
Project ScopeIt involves the expansion of Hawiyah’s processing
capacity by 1.3 billion scfd, and mainly includes inlet facilities, two new gas treatment trains, dehydration and dew point control facilities, two sales gas com-pression units, high and low-pressure flare and flare recovery systems, steam turbine generation unit, ex-pansion of electrical and non-electrical utilities, four new industrial support buildings, communications and network infrastructure, retrofit dehydrator vessels, SCADA-RTU systems and backbone connection to support the operation of the nine new gas compression plants (GCPs), seven liquid separation stations (LSSs) and three operational support and administration areas.

SIEMENS has been awarded a contract by Arabian Drilling Company (ADC) to modernise a complete and integrated drilling-drives lineup, including auxiliaries and controls that will be installed on an offshore jackup drilling rig for a customer in the Middle East.
In addition to new features and benefits, the upgrade will also enable the customer to meet the latest safety standards. Delivery of the new system is planned for the early part of 2021. The contract includes engineering, design, manufacturing, and delivery of the fully integrated modernisation based on Siemens’ BlueDrive technology.
The Siemens solution, known as Master2Blue, will use the footprint, cable network, and communication principles of the existing system, ena-bling quick, modular-style installation, commissioning, and startup. The system is a DC power grid that includes power electronics, controls, and cooling of 10 integrated variable speed drives.
The BlueDrive system, developed and refined over the years to meet the offshore industry’s demanding requirements, is ideal for energy distribu-tion in propulsion and drilling systems. It is an efficient, environment-friendly multi-drive solution that provides high levels of reliability, avail-ability, and ease of service, with low emissions and an option for remote support.
Other modernisation solutions are also available that include Siemens’ fully integrated, state-of-the-art energy storage systems.
