Goal

Reduce the vulnerabilities of coastal communities and cities in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, India, to climate change and strengthen capacities of local authorities and the population on climate change adaptation (CCA), climate change mitigation (CCM) and disaster risk reduction (DRR).

Urban Approach – Integration of CCA & CCM

Integration into development plans accelerated

Key results include: Rs. 1.57 crores allocated by AP government for expanding AdaptCap schemes and concepts in Vizag district

District disaster management plans in Vizag and Thiruvallur under review with NIDM, to integrate CCA and DRR

16 Crores sanctioned in AP by the AP Community based tanks programme by the irrigation dept.

District officials appointed in Nellore to monitor the pilots and look at developing a climate change integrated plan at the district level

Multiple approaches for mainstreaming adaptation

City task force formed with key officials from Town Panchayat including Chairperson & RDO, CBOs, DRR experts and NGOs

MoU signed for project implementation

V&NA replicated in 18 wards, V&NA for entire Town Panchayat being discussed

Chairperson plans to present results to Chief Minister, TN

Attempts for integration with plans of different government flagship programmes
