Randwick TAFE’s Fitness Studio has hired J-Design to create a digital media

training product to promote the clients fitness studio and the safe and correct

use of its equipment.

The Client requirements for the product include a narrated video to

demonstrate the different type of equipment, information on the rules of the

fitness studio and a muscle/equipment quiz to test the knowledge of the

customers.

The gymnasium's equipment ranges from traditional equipment such as

bicycles and barbells, to highly sophisticated special purpose machines

therefore the fitness studio insists on providing customers with an interactive

optical disc to provide assistants and educate.

The target audience are gym members between the ages of 15 to 65, who

are either students or members of the public.

The client requires the product to

provide:

i) A narrated video tour of the fitness

studio that highlights the equipment

groupings.

ii) Information on the rules for using the

studio with a scenario-based training

application to enable customers to test

their knowledge of these rules in a

variety of situations.

iii) Images of a range of equipment for

exercising a selected muscle group

(Legs, Arms, etc.) and a quiz for

matching the equipment required to

exercise specific muscles within the

group.

The audience will be gym members, who vary in age approximately from 16

to 65 who are either students of TAFE’s health and fitness courses or members

of the public attending classes and individualised training programs. The

audiences are from diverse backgrounds and cultures but are educated in

various aspects. It is aimed at both male and female audiences, who mainly

live locally or in proximity to the Randwick TAFE gym. Their computer and

technology skills are fairly good due to the skills gained through TAFE.

The aim of the project is to provide customers with a digital media training

product to promote the clients fitness studio and the safe and correct use of

its equipment by customers attending classes and individualised training

programs. Also to provide a form of learning and feedback through the use

of a quiz for matching the equipment required to exercise specific muscles

within the group.

The deliverables will be via an optical disc (CD/DVD), which incorporates a

range of digital media technologies such as text, graphics, photography,

audio and video to create a realistic learning environment.

To successfully complete the gym prototype

on time the project schedule should be

followed closely. I recommend the client and

designer also schedule regular meetings to

see if the requirements are being met

according to the client’s needs. The design

factor for the prototype will be what

separates the CD-ROM from others; this is why

I recommend great attention to detail be

paid for this aspect.

I recommend the CD-ROM provide customers

with Ease of use and fun interactivity, it would

provide real life scenarios with questions and

feedback. It should be available to everyone

who wants and needs it.
