  • TABLE TENNISTable tennis is a sport in which two or four players have to hit a lightweight

orange or white ball, back and forth, using a table tennis bat. The place in which

this game takes place is on a table divided by a net. It is play very fast, and so, it

demands quicker reactions than in other sports. The most important parts are the

spin that its put on the ball, and the movement of your legs. Also and important

fact, is to play lots of matches, so you are prepare for whatever your rival does.

This sport, demands lots of hours of training so you dont make any mistake

    during the match.

Table tennis is played, individually, in

pairs, and in teams. Individually, you

play against you rival, in games of

eleven points ( if you became into a 10-10 , the winner is the one who reaches

two points in advantage) , and it is usually play at the best of five or seven

games. In pairs, the rules are much more complicated, and there are a lot of them,

for example, each player of each pair, has to rotate in the game, so one player

never hits the ball twice successive. In teams, there are lots of variable, there can

be two people teams or three people teams. The players of each teams play

between them, in a order that depends on the type of match that is being played.

Also, sometimes, in team matches, a doubles match is played, it is always play in

two people teams, and in some occasions, in three people teams to untie the

    match.

  • Lots of table tennis rules, had been changing

during the years, for example, at the

beginning there were one ball, that goes very

fast and which can get a lot of spin, then, it

were change for another ball, that was bigger,

goes slower, and can get less spin, and finally, the last year, the ball was changed

for one which is a bit bigger and can get even less spin. All those ball changes are

made so table tennis can be watched better in TV.

    Origins:Table tennis, was born in

England, during a rainy day in

    which some tennis players, wanted

to play, but they couldnt because of

the rain. Because of that, they

started to play with some books as

paddles, in a normal table. Many

years after that, the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) was born.

Even more years before, ITTF, created a web page in which people can watch

championships matches in live. Nowadays, table tennis isnt as famous as sports

like football or basketball, but, the more years it pass, the more that table tennis

    become more famous.

To play table tennis, the essential equipment, firstly, is the paddle: it must have

one red rubber, one black rubber, and be made of wood. It has a minimun and

maximum measures. The rubbers are very controlled, at the championships, the

referees, must see that the both rubbers of both players are legal for the ITTF, if it

doesnt , the player who has the illegal rubbers has to change them, or lose the

match. However, the wood is less controlled. Also, if you are playing a team

match, you have to wear the same t-shirt as your partners. There are no rules

  • about the shoes, but playing with running shoes isnt the best choice, you can get

injured for example. Lots of years ago, people used to paste the rubbers into the

wood, with a special glue that gives the ball much more spin, and much more

speed, but this glue, didnt least for much time, players used to have to paste lots

of times their rubbers. Finally, people discovered that that glue was toxic so ITTF

banned using this kind of glue.

There are lots of table tennis championships, the most important in singles are:

WTTC (Worlds Table Tennis Championship) and the World Tour Grand Finals.

Nowadays, in singles, there are lots of championships, called Pro tour, that are

important depending on the players that play it, ITTF classified them in order of

  • the importance, golden one are the most important, silvered one are the second

more important, and the rest of them are the less important. For example, the

Spanish Pro Tour, classified like silvered, (takes place in Almera) last year

wasnt very important, but this year lots of good players are playing it, so it is

    very important.

During all the years that people played table tennis, some players stand out and

not all of them are Chinese. The most important player, and the one who is

considerate the best in all the history, is Jan-Ove Waldner, form Sweden. Also,

the Sweden national team, in its good times, used to win the Chinese national

team, without losing a match. But Sweden national team became in a decline, and

the Chinese National team catch them up. Since that, the only national team that

has given a bit of competition to the Chinese is the German, lead by Timo Boll,

the only non Chinese player that has reached the top 1 in the ITTFs single

ranking in the last 10 years. Timo Boll, has been playing professionally lots of

years, and he had been always in the top of the best players, facing Chinese best

players, sometimes defeating them and sometimes losing, and nowadays, despite

his age compare to the rest of the players, he is still on the top 10 of the singles

    ITTFs ranking.

Now, the best players in the world are

two Chinese, Ma Long , which is the

number one right now, and Xu Xin ,

number two. The two non Chinese

    young promises to became world

champions and number one in the

ranking, are the Japanese Jun Mizutani , and the German Dimitrij Ovtcharov,

which is Timo Bolls teammate. In Spain, male table tennis players arent as

good as other countrys players. The best Spanish players are Carlos Machado,

He Zhi When, born in Spain but with Chinese parents, well known as Juanito ,

and Marc Duran. However, female Spanish players are quite better, but most of

  • the best of them have Chinese parent, but they were born in Spain, and trained in

Spain. For example Yanfei Shen, who has been number six in the world ranking.

  • SURFHISTORY

Surfing is one of the oldest practiced sports on the planet. The art of wave riding, is a blend of total athleticism and the comprehension of the beauty and power of nature. Surfing is also one of the few sports that creates its own culture and lifestyle.

The act of riding waves with a wooden board originated in Western Polynesia over three thousand years ago. The first surfers were fishermen who discovered riding waves as an efficient method of getting to shore with their catch . Eventually catching waves developed from being part of everyday work to being a pastime. This change revolutionized surfing.

    SURFING

Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying thesurfer toward the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are primarily found in the ocean, but can also be found in lakes or in rivers in the form of a standing wave or tidal bore.

The modern-day definition of surfing most often refers to a surfer riding a wave standing up on a surfboard; this is also referred to as stand-up surfing.

  • One variety of stand-up surfing is paddle boarding. Another prominent form of surfing is body boarding, when a surfer rides a wave on a bodyboard, either lyingon their belly, drop knee, or sometimes even standing up on a body board. Other types of surfing include knee boarding, surf matting (riding inflatable mats), and using foils. Body surfing, where the wave is surfed without a board, using the surfer's own body to catch and ride the wave, is very common and is considered by some to be the purest form of surfing.

The Guinness Book of World Records recognized a 78 feet (23.8 m) wave ride byGarrett McNamara at Nazar, Portugal as the largest wave ever surfed.

    EQUIPMENT

Surfing can be done on various equipment, including surfboards, longboards, Stand Up Paddle boards (SUP's), bodyboards, wave skis, skimboards, kneeboards, surf mats and macca's trays. Surfboards were originally made of solid wood and were large and heavy.

Nowadays, most modern surfboards are made of fiberglass foam (PU), with one or more wooden strips or "stringers", fiberglass cloth, and polyester resin (PE).

Other equipment includes a leash, surf wax, traction pads (to keep a surfer's feet from slipping off the deck of the board), and fins. Sportswear designed or particularly suitable for surfing may be sold as boardwear. In cold water surfers can opt to wear wetsuits, boots, hoods, and gloves.

  • SURF CULTURE

Surfers represent a diverse culture based on riding the waves. Some people practice surfing as a recreational activity while others make it the central focus oftheir lives. Within the United States, surfing culture is most dominant in Hawaii and California because these two states offer the best surfing conditions. However, waves can be found wherever there is coastline, and a tight-knit yet far-reaching subculture of surfers has emerged throughout America. Some historical markers of the culture included the woodie, the station wagon used to carry surfers' boards, as well as boardshorts, the long swim shorts typically worn while surfing. Surfers also wear wetsuits in colder regions.

Many surfers claim to have a spiritual connection with the ocean, describing surfing, the surfing experience, both in and out of the water, as a type of spiritual experience or a religion.
