puma Introduction

This interim Manual for PUMA SpringWe have brought forward publication of the PUMA Spring tests, so that you can make use of PUMA in the Spring term, before publication of the full Manuals in April 2015. To support you in using the PUMA Spring tests, this free teacher guidance provides everything you need to administer and mark these tests – teacher scripts, mark schemes and score conversion tables.

For guidance on how to administer the tests, before publication of the full Manuals, please refer to the Interim Autumn manuals at www.hoddereducation.co.uk/puma/teacherguidance.

The full published Manuals for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 will provide more extensive teacher guidance, including full information relating to the PUMA Autumn, Spring and Summer tests. The PUMA Manuals will also include the following information, to assist you when using PUMA across the whole school year

■ Diagnostic and formative information ■ Pupil profi le sheets for each term, to enable you to review patterns of

strengths and weaknesses across the year. ■ Further data analysis, enabling you to predict future performance with the

Hodder Scale (previously called the ‘PUMA Scale’) ■ Further information about interpreting and analysing results

■ Technical information about the standardisation ■ Teacher scripts and mark schemes for all the PUMA tests.

In the meantime, should you have any queries about using the PUMA Spring tests, please email [email protected].

Note: Where a pupil’s raw score links to more than one point on the Hodder Scale or LA points score, the highest point on the scale should be awarded. Although this sets a higher expectation for the pupil to achieve on the next test, this will ensure that the pupil has a challenging target to aim for.
