WELCOME

DEAR PARTICIPANT,In a cycle of two years, the International Federation for Information Processing TechnicalCommittee 7 for System Modelling and Optimization (IFIP TC 7) arranges highly regardedconferences on several topics of applied optimization such as optimal control of ordinaryand partial differential equations, modelling and simulation, inverse problems, nonlinear, discrete, and stochastic optimization, and industrial applications. The 28th IFIP TC7 Conference 2018 will take place on the Essen campus of the Universityof Duisburg-Essen (UDE), Germany. The organizer is the Faculty of Mathematics at theUDE.We wish you a fruitful and stimulating time at the conference, and hope you will enjoyyour stay in Essen! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

SOCIAL PROGRAM

SOCIAL PROGRAMThe following social activities are organized, for which you should have signed up duringregistration:

• On Monday evening, a Welcome reception will be held at the Café Brücke onthe main campus (close to the mensa). The reception will begin at 18:00.• OnWednesday afternoon, we offer an excursion to Zeche Zollverein, a formerindustrial site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Buses will pick us up at 15:00 nearthe auditorium on the main campus. There will be a guided tour of ca. 90 minutesin English and German. Sturdy shoes are recommended.• OnWednesday evening, the conference dinner will take place at the Restaurant“Die Kokerei” on the area of the Zeche Zollverein. If you take part in the excursion,a short walk across the area will get you to the restaurant. The dinner starts at19:00. After the dinner, you are free to return on your own; the last tram leavesfrom Zollverein at 23:39 (and every 30 minutes before that).
