    Albany Pipe Band

The Caledonian Society formed the Pipe Band in the 1950s. Their first public appear-ance was in 1959.

For their kilt, they chose the Albany Tartan, an old and rare tartan. The story is that it was worn by Bonnie Prince Charlie. The original cloth was woven at the Albany Woollen Mills and some of the kilts worn today are still made of that material.

The band practices at ASHS each Tuesday, 7:30pm-9pm. The Pipe Band is willing to teach anyone interested in piping or drumming.

    Kym Crosby

A farmer from Broomehill, who developed an interest in writing poetry 40 odd years ago, while at High School. This was due to the input from several English teachers who had a real passion for poetry, and who made the subject very interesting.

On leaving school, farming pursuits and other pastimes gradually pushed poetry into the background, until 2000 when a poetry competition about the Sydney Olympic Games rekindled the original interest.

Many of Kyms poems come from actual stories of farming activities, while others of somewhat unlikely situations are based upon ideas taken from various sources. All are treated with his own brand of unusual humour.

  • Log Chop Chainsaw Carving&

    Daniel Radcliffe Chainsaw Artist.

Daniel first started sculptures several years ago after seeing a bear carved into a dead tree while on holidays. He came back, bought a trusty Stihl, and carved the log walrus on Mercer Road, which was going to be aletterbox, but he didnt have the heart to carve a hole in it. He started to enter com-petitions, and has won 6 firsts and 4 seconds, out of 11 comps entered.

Carving for me is very addictive. I spend at least 20 to 30 hours a week creating sculptures with wood which would otherwise have been firewood. My sculptures can be seen at Ardess nursery, and The Bath Tub on York Street.

    The Performers

    Chris Edmondson

Giving voice to a range of characters and places that can be found on the map of the South West of Western Australia, Collecting Cars is a rollicking, foot-stomping, collection of folk-country songs that capture life in the rural South West.

A Chris Edmondson live performance is best described as "conversational". Clocking up dozens of solo shows a year, Chris has worked the wineries, wheat-bars, country fairs, festivals, folk clubs and house concerts pretty much all over the bottom left-hand corner of the conti-nent for more than a decade.

Chris songs are wry acoustic tales, inextricably linked to the West Australian experience.

Further Images & Information found at www.chrisedmondson.com

Rory FaithfieldWith Celtic songlines in his head and grains of sand between his toes, contemporary Australian folk artist Rory Faithfield is now a resident of South Western Australia, after many years based in Ireland where his South West Australian theme song, Big Blue Western Skies (inspired by the end of The Troubles in Northern Ireland) is heard regularly on Gerry Andersons BBC Radio Ulster Show. Bruce Elder stated: Faithfield inhabits the same rich musical world as Christy Moore, Luka Bloom and Glen Hansard. His songs are wistful, romantic, deeply felt, beautifully crafted, and sung with a voice that pours sincerity and emo-tion over every line and note, and that his fourth and latest album is a sublime, heart-stoppingly beautiful album from a major new Australian folk talent.

Performs solo with acoustic guitar, harmonicas and a loop station, together with a bag of stories and some uplifting audience interactivity.
