Welcome! Thank you for selecting Hocking College for your career educational needs. We recognize that you have many choices as to where to spend your educational dollars and are pleased that you selected one of Hocking’s pro-grams. Your classroom/lab experiences are aimed at developing the necessary skills that Hocking College has developed from working with employers, students, faculty and administrators. Your program has been designed to give you a hands-on experience so that you learn by doing. Your time at Hocking College is valuable so we encourage you to take full advantage of the extracurricular activities offered through various programs and areas like the Student Center. Please take some time to stop at the Information desk in the Center and check out the many activities planned for this quarter. You have made an investment in your-self-maximize on that investment by seizing as many Hocking College opportunities as possible. Job Description: Architectural & Mechanical Design “Learner” Definition – Learner: To apply effort by way of behavior and thought, to ac-quire knowledge and understanding, as well as, to master experience and skill

DUTIES OF A LEARNER: ATTITUDES / SKILLS: 1. To be in class and on time 2. To take notes, spend quality time preparing for tests, writing papers and doing research 3. To be prepared for each class session, Including but not limited to, taking tests, discussion, lab experiences, capstones, practicums, etc. 4. To seek help and support as needed 5. To participate in classroom discussions and hands-on Activities 6. To maintain behavior within the parameters of the ethics and professional standards of the drafting profession 7. Architectural & Mechanical Design MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Architectural & Mechanical Design Technology program is: � To develop drafting & life skills and knowledge necessary for successful entry-level job performance; � To promote independence of thought and action while maintaining a working relationship in a

group setting; � To offer situations and work comparable to that found in the workplace; � To provide a continuation of education for graduates of vocational education programs; � To develop and offer continuing education programs for those already in the workplace; � To service other technologies that require an understanding of drafting, engineering layout, blu-

eprint reading or computer assisted drafting knowledge.

ARCHITECTURAL & MECHANICAL DESIGN Student’s Code of Ethics Drafting students should uphold and advance the integrity, honor and dignity of the Drafting Pro-fession and Hocking Technical College in the following ways:

SKILLSUSA – HOCKING COLLEGE CHAPTER

The SkillsUSA Hocking College Chapter is open to all drafting students for participa-tion. There are many opportunities through this organization to develop Leadership skills and to compete with other colleges in the field of drafting. Past successes have resulted in a Drafting Team winning Gold Medals at the State Level Competition and Bronze Medals at the National Competition in Kansas City, MO. At the 2009 State Competitions witnessed our Chapter President being elected to State SkillsUSA Postsecondary President

The drafting program offers: Associate Degree in: � An Associate of Science in Architectural & Mechanical Design Technology Certificates in: � Drafting Fundamentals – Certificate I (Required courses – DD 101, DD 114, Math 108) � Drafting Fundamentals – Certificate II (Required courses – DD 102, DD 103, DD 114 or DD 115, Math 110) � Architectural Design – Certificate III (Required courses – DD 200, DD 201, NRM 123, + an elective from the Construction

Management Technology – must be approved by Drafting Advisor) � Mechanical Design – Certificate IV (Required courses – DD 202, DD 205, DD 210, DD 215, ISE 107, ISE 108, ISE 109) � Drafting & Design Certificate – Certificate V (Required courses – All required courses in the Drafting and Design curriculum (except

Communications, Math, Sociology and Psychology) National Certification: � An opportunity is afforded the Drafting & Design Learner during the sixth (6) quarter to

sit for the American Drafting and Design Association (ADDA) national certification ex-am. There is a fee required to take this exam.

Architectural & Mechanical Design Job Market The diverse educational background of a Architecture & Mechanical Design graduate provides a variety of jobs in areas including manufacturing, public utilities, and engineering, surveying or architectural firms. Central Ohio is the major employer for Hocking Technical College graduates although drafting jobs in the above categories are obtained all over the nation. The job titles for these graduates include CAD operators, Drafter/Project Engineers, Engineer's Assistant, or Engineering Specialist. An estimate of the graduate’s annual starting salaries range is: $24,000 to $30,000. Many Drafting and Design graduates are promoted within 4 years of service to Manager or Lead drafter/CAD operator, system analyzer, or project coordinator. Additional education may be required for further advancement such as job related training by the employer or an advanced degree in an engineering related field.
