We are delighted to be back in Vancouver and to welcome you to the 97th CPS Annual Conference, for three days of lively discussion, debate and networking. We hope you’ll be a part of the exceptional educational experience being developed by this year’s Annual Conference Committee.

Building on last year’s very successful conference in Toronto, we’ll feature the best of paediatric medicine in Canada. This year’s lineup draws on an incredible variety of topics in many disciplines, such as the recent cases of acute lung injury associated with e-cigarettes, contraception in youth, early diagnosis of urological conditions, infectious diseases, gender diversity, and much more.

One of the objectives of the CPS Strategic Framework is to pursue health equity for First Nations, Inuit and Métis children and youth. Our 2020 keynote speaker Tanya Talaga is an award-winning journalist and author, who will share her Indigenous stories from across Canada and the world, and share her hope for a more inclusive and equitable future.

Designed for a broad range of professionals and trainees, including subspecialists, family physicians, and nurse practitioners, the CPS conference has something for everyone: a strong scientific program and lots of opportunities for training, networking, mentorship and memory-making.

Deposit PolicyDid you know that last-minute hotel cancellations can prevent our delegates from attending? The CPS discourages the practice of reservations being held by undecided delegates who cancel or may not attend the conference. If the hotels become sold out by undecided delegates who then cancel their reservation at the last minute, this can prevent others from attending.

To help keep rooms available for those committed to attend the event, the CPS has asked the hotel to process a non-refundable deposit equal to one night’s stay for the room(s) reserved with our event code; and if multiple rooms are reserved, each room requires a deposit. This deposit will be charged by the hotel to the credit card on file 45 days prior to the conference date, which will be April 20, 2020.

Paediatric residents square off in annual trivia contest

Since 2017, the CPS has hosted this event at the annual conference to inspire residents and faculty to learn about paediatrics in a fun and competitive way. The 2020 Reaching for the Top! promises to be a battle of wits between residents and faculty from the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary. Teams compete in a trivia challenge for prizes….and all the glory of taking home the Reaching for Top! Competition Cup.

Mother’s LoungeThe CPS Annual Conference supports nursing

mothers by providing a safe, secure and private Mother’s Lounge. The Mother’s Lounge is equipped with private cubicles, each with a

comfortable lounge chair, table and lamp. There’s also a baby change area, complete with diapers

and baby wipes. Nursing mothers will need to supply their own breast pump, but we’ll provide an area for storage so you won’t have to carry it around. Running water is conveniently located in the restrooms nearby. A microwave and refrigerator will also be available where nursing mothers may store their expressed milk. As this room will be secure, to access the room you’ll need to get a key at either the registration desk or CPS conference office. Children at the conferenceFor safety and security of all involved, all conference sessions and exhibits are for registered attendees only, unless otherwise noted. All registered conference attendees must be at least 18 years of age (see information below for attendees traveling with infants). There are no child minding facilities during the conference, but the Hyatt Regency Vancouver Hotel concierge will be able to direct you to available family care services.

Dietary RestrictionsWhen registering online, please indicate your dietary restrictions. You will then receive a special meal ticket for functions where food is available; simply show it to your server to obtain a personalized meal. Please note: personal dietary requirements cannot be met without this meal ticket.

The CPS works closely with hotel staff to provide safe and delicious meals for all conference participants. However, we cannot guarantee that menu items are free of trace amounts of allergens or other ingredients.

InfantsInfants under two years of age may accompany registered attendees into the conference sessions, workshops, trade show, symposiums, and other activities as long as the infant is in a carrier and supervised at all times. If the infant begins to fuss

Enfants au congrèsPour la sécurité de toutes les personnes concernées, les séances et le salon des exposants sont réservés aux congressistes inscrits, à moins d’un avis à l’effet contraire. Tous les congressistes inscrits doivent être âgés d’au moins 18 ans (voir l’information ci-dessous à l’intention des congressistes accompagnés d’un nourrisson). Il n’y a pas de services de gardiennage pendant le congrès, mais le concierge de l’hôtel Hyatt Regency Vancouver pourra vous orienter vers des services de gardiennage.

MealsWe’ve worked closely with Chef Daniel from the Hyatt Regency Vancouver to provide a selection of heart healthy meal options. In response to feedback from past conference attendees who are committed to healthy lifestyles, we will refrain from offering pastries and sweets, as many attendees have said they find it hard to resist.

Quiet Contemplation RoomOur conference hosts a diverse group of

participants. We want everyone to feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to the conference. The Quiet Contemplation Room

will be available for those who need time for reflection, meditation or prayer. All conference

participants and guests are welcome here, irrespective of beliefs. The room will have worship mats and running water is conveniently located in the restrooms nearby.

Scent-Free RequestThe CPS Annual Conference is a scent-free event. Not everyone is comfortable near cologne or perfume. Please refrain from wearing scented products.

Special NeedsThe CPS tries to ensure that all educational and social events are fully accessible. If you have any special needs or requests, contact the CPS Education Department before the conference at 613-526-9397 ext. 264, or bring them to the attention of registration staff during the conference.

Wellness Lounge NEW

The CPS Annual Conference is thrilled to introduce our first ever Wellness Lounge at this year’s conference. The Wellness Lounge will offer a comfortable atmosphere, a place

for attendees to re-energize and rejuvenate. This room is a “tech-free zone” where attendees

can self-unplug from their electronic devices. We offer daily activities like chair or standing yoga that are adapted for business attire, guided meditations and breathing techniques and a special four-legged visit from Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS). Massage chairs will help attendees physically and mentally unwind. Five minutes of quiet mindfulness can do wonders for concentration, sleep, breathing, and focus throughout the day. Come into the Lounge to find out how you can start enhancing your overall physical and mental wellness today.

Environnement sans odeurLe congrès annuel de la SCP est un événement sans odeur. Puisque l’eau de Cologne ou les parfums en incommodent certains, nous vous prions d’éviter les produits parfumés.

Des fauteuils de massothérapie aideront les congressistes à se détendre physiquement et mentalement. Cinq minutes de pleine conscience discrète peuvent accomplir des merveilles pour la concentration, le sommeil, la respiration et la réflexion tout au long de la journée. A single conference attendee typically produces more than four pounds (1.89 kilograms) of waste per day at an event. For a 1,000-person, three-day conference, that amount of waste per person in attendance can equal approximately 12,500 pounds (5,670 kilograms) or about the same weight of four compact cars! Event waste includes everything from consumables such as leftover food to paper, plastics, and venue energy.

Each year, we continue to build on our sustainability efforts. To reduce our environmental impact, the Annual Conference is striving to reduce waste and divert as much material as possible from the landfill. Here is how we are offering sustainability solutions at the 97th Annual Conference:

• Join us by packing a reusable water bottle, cup and tote bag. If you forget, glasses or coffee cups will still be available.

• Use our waste sorting stations to separate recyclable and compostable materials.

• We will have several “Hydration Stations” throughout the conference floors so you will be able to refill your water bottle.

• We are also committed to moving toward zero plastics for food and beverage options by offering canned instead of bottled beverages, biodegradable water glasses, no plastic straws or stir sticks, and offering no bottled water.

• We select hotels that compost organic waste and donate leftover food to charity if/when possible.

• We use suppliers who have a commitment to sustainability efforts. We work with our suppliers to encourage the sourcing of local, sustainable goods and services including menu items.

• We continue to offer online registration and confirmation as well as an easy check in to not only streamline paper waste, but to help facilitate faster and more efficient attendee check-in time.

• We no longer offer a printed program. The program is only available through the conference web or mobile app. This results in the reduction of costs for the removal or recycling of leftover programs.

• We have also made it easier for attendees to complete surveys by offering quick online access through our conference app.

• We made the commitment some time ago by eliminating conference bags with various printed materials. We now just offer bags made in an ecofriendly manner or from sustainable materials.

• Our lanyards and name badge holders are biodegradable.• Where possible, we avoid printing dates and times on signage

to reuse for the next meeting. • Instead of traditional foam core board for signage, we use

an alternative that is fully recyclable and uses post-consumer waste recycled fibers. We also reuse vinyl banners year after year, and optimize IT solutions to display digital media and schedules.

• Nous sélectionnons des hôtels qui compostent leurs déchets organiques et qui, dans la mesure du possible, donnent leurs surplus d’aliments à des organismes de bienfaisance.

• Nous retenons les services de fournisseurs engagés à faire des efforts pour l’environnement. Nous travaillons avec nos fournisseurs pour privilégier des biens et services locaux et durables, y compris les aliments au menu.

• Nous proposons l’inscription et la confirmation en ligne et l’inscription sur place simplifiée non seulement pour pour éviter le gaspillage de papier, mais également pour simplifier l’arrivée et la rendre plus efficace.

• Nous n’offrons plus de programme imprimé. Le programme n’est plus offert que dans le site Web ou l’application du congrès, afin de réduire les coûts de disposition et de recyclage des programmes inutilisés.

Her great-grandmother was a residential school survivor and her great-grandfather was an Ojibway trapper and labourer. For the past 20 years, Talaga has worked as a journalist and is now a columnist for The Toronto Star. She is the first Ojibway woman to deliver the CBC Massey lectures and has been nominated five times for the Michener Award in public service journalism.

Tanya Talaga is an acclaimed storyteller and will share her Indigenous stories from across Canada and the world, humanizing the legacy of residential schools and colonization and sharing her hope for a more inclusive and equitable future.

Tanya Talaga est d’origine polonaise et autochtone. Son arrière-grand-mère est une survivante des pensionnats et son arrière-grand-père, un trappeur et un cultivateur ojibwé. 1A What every paediatrician needs to know about vaping and e-cigarettes

The rapid increase in rates of electronic cigarette use among youth and recent cases of acute lung injury associated with vaping have radically changed the landscape of adolescent substance use behaviors. This seminar will provide an overview of the acute and potential long-term health effects associated with vaping and exposure to second-hand aerosols. Attendees will also acquire hands-on skills to screen for youth vaping behaviors and address this issue with patients and families.

1B Child and adolescent lipid screening and management

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death. Primary prevention is developed in adulthood and rapidly evolving in paediatrics. Evidence suggests that atherosclerosis begins in childhood and is associated with modifiable risk factors, such as obesity. Moreover, inherited disorders of lipid metabolism (familial hypercholesterolemia) are common (1:250) and often undiagnosed until a catastrophic event occurs in young adulthood. Therefore, primary prevention of CVD must start from childhood. The results of the recent CPSP survey on lipid screening in the paediatric population will also be discussed.

Using an interactive case-based seminar, participants will be exposed to timely topics and updates in paediatric sports medicine including overuse and acute sports injuries, concussions, sports nutrition, and rehabilitation of youth sports injuries.

1D What’s law got to do with it? An introduction to child health and the law

The medico-legal landscape of paediatrics is dynamic. It is important for health professionals to be aware of legal and ethical frameworks that impact child and youth health and wellness. This seminar will provide an introduction to health law and policy to help guide paediatric clinical practice, advocacy, and medical education. Issues of focus will include health care consent, confidentiality in child and youth health, child protection, and professional responsibilities in clinical practice.

W1 Demystifying defibrillators: A practical review for paediatricians

A CPSP survey in 2018 indicated that general paediatricians consider cardioversion and defibrillation as essential skills to their practice. They also reported that use of defibrillators was rare, and maintaining proficiency was challenging. Additionally, unstable situations often preclude the option of seeking expert guidance. Accordingly, this hands-on, simulation-based workshop intends to provide a practical review for general paediatricians on the common uses of manual defibrillators.

W2 Coaching 101: How to coach for performance change

It is important as educators and leaders to be equipped with a variety of effective coaching strategies for the clinical and performance review settings. In this workshop, two approaches including the Royal College’s Competence by Design coaching model, and the R2C2 model of facilitated feedback will be presented. Participants will have the opportunity to experience these in small groups and leave prepared to implement new strategies in their own practice.


W3 Paediatric musculoskeletal examination skills

This workshop will provide participants with a concise 2-minute musculoskeletal screening (MSK) exam called the paediatric Gait, Arms, Legs and Spine (pGALS), that has been validated for use in school-aged children. It will include approaches to identify normal from abnormal paediatric joints, a relevant focused anatomy review and an interactive opportunity to practice the pGALS examination in small groups with direct observation and expert feedback.

1E Contraceptive care for Canadian youth: Translating the CPS statement into practice

Are you providing state-of-the-art, adolescent-friendly contraceptive care to your patients? This seminar will help you reach these goals. Drawing from the 2018 CPS statement, this seminar will review the recommendations and help you implement them in your practice. Particular attention will be placed on long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs); on new contraceptives on the market; and on increasing access to contraception in your practice, in your community, and in your province.

1F Ultra high-cost drugs in paediatrics: Current landscape and future challenges

New treatments for rare diseases create life-changing possibilities, but the cost of these “new” drugs can surpass millions of dollars for a single person. Why are these drugs so expensive? What triggered this trend? What does this mean for patients with rare (and not-so-rare) diseases, their families, and the health system? We will trace the history of ultra high-cost drugs, highlight the impact of ultra high-cost drugs in Canada, and discuss the ethics of ultra high-cost drugs for children.

1H Bookclub discussion – ‘Educated’ by Tara Westover

This is a first-person memoir. The author was raised by survivalist Mormon parents in rural Idaho who were strongly opposed to education and to the medical profession. She had minimal social contact outside her family and endured considerable emotional and physical abuse from her older brother. At 17 she was awarded a Gates Scholarship which led her to obtaining a PhD in history and political thought from Cambridge University in England.

2A Urology for paediatricians: Diagnosis and management of common urological conditions in the office

Paediatricians are often the first health care providers to identify common urological conditions such as undescended testicles, hypospadias, phimosis and bladder and bowel dysfunction. Currently there are challenges in determining which cases are appropriate for paediatrician management and which require referral to a urologist. The focus of this seminar is to provide practical tips for early diagnosis and management of the most common urological conditions seen in general paediatric practice.

2B Managing little eyes: Pink, sticky, bumpy or blurry

This seminar will focus on functional and structural examination and management of common and sometimes serious eye problems in children. A case-based approach will be used to discuss management of conjunctival and corneal diseases, eyelid disorders and the globe injuries in children. This seminar will include illustrative cases to highlight important learning points and a quiz for participants to apply what they learn in order to update their knowledge of eye disorders in children.

2C A real poop show! The diagnosis and management of C. difficile in children

C. difficile is frequently detected in paediatric stool samples but the interpretation of this finding can be challenging. Newer laboratory testing practices may be leading the over diagnosis and treatment of C. difficile in children. Recent epidemiological studies using molecular techniques and case control design have revealed the frequency of colonization with “toxigenic” strains, particularly in pre-school aged children. This session will review our updated understanding of the epidemiology of C. difficile in children, including low and high-risk populations for development of disease. Attendees will also learn of recent changes in the recommendations for testing and management of C. difficile in children, including a discussion of the limitations of various approaches.

2D What is new and controversial in paediatric infectious diseases in 2020?

Speakers will present on topics in paediatric infectious diseases that are relevant to general paediatricians as there is new knowledge or management remains controversial. The content and quality of available evidence will be presented. Topics will be derived closer to the date depending on what the literature shows.

2E This might have saved her life: Stabilization care for illicit drug overdoses

Opioid overdose has become one of the leading causes of death for youth due to the rise of fentanyl in the illicit drug market. This seminar will explore an approach to life-threatening substance use in youth that is currently being piloted by hospital-based paediatricians in British Columbia. State-of-the-art science material about the opioid epidemic and its impact on children, promising strategies for providing medical care for this population, and preliminary outcomes will be shared.


2F Positive parenting guidance for the busy practice: How to make it count for children and families

Parenting is the strongest modifiable determinant of behavioural and emotional health in children. There are proven benefits to the physician’s helping families learn positive parenting principles via multiple brief interventions. The science/evidence behind the CPS Positive Parenting Statement will enable the participant to learn some quick and pragmatic tools that can be used in an office setting. These skills can apply across patient populations including those that are experiencing adversity.

Review HMOs in relationship to the gut microbiota and identify the impact of HMOs on health and growth outcomes. After lipids and lactose, human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are the third most abundant solid component of human milk and are believed to serve as important protective components of mother’s milk. This symposium will focus on the microbiome, the role of HMO’s and their impact in neonatal health and immune-system development.

S2 Meningococcal disease update: What the clinician needs to know about vaccination against MenB

The purpose of the symposium is to improve understanding of both the burden and prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by serogroup B (MenB) by sharing newly available data, real-world experiences, and clinical perspectives related to the disease. In doing so, the program will drive meningococcal disease awareness and facilitate decisions around MenB immunization to ultimately ensure that Canadians at risk of IMD are protected.

Steps towards equity: Accessing Jordan’s Principle and the Inuit Child First Initiative

With the recent implementation of Jordan’s Principle and the Inuit Child First Initiative, First Nations and Inuit children now have funding for additional services to improve health and education. Yet due to multiple barriers communities and families face, accessing this funding is a challenge. This presentation will facilitate a working knowledge of these programs for paediatricians to help them support families in navigating these barriers and work for child health equity in a practical manner.

SP07 Lives on hold: Paediatric migrant health at the North American borders

Perspectives will be obtained from health care workers having cared for migrant children trying to reach the US from Mexico and Central America, as well as crossing the border from the US and ending in detention facilities in Canada. The physical and mental health effects of these traumatic events linked to forced migration in an era of growing anti-migration sentiments and political climate will be reviewed. Topics include:• Protecting kids in unstable places: Paediatric migrant health at the North American borders• How can we best work together to protect kids in unstable places? SP08 Childhood adversity and trauma: From bench to bedside

Childhood adversity and trauma are common and present to paediatric offices in many different ways. This program will walk the clinician through the current state of the neurobiology and epigenetic knowledge on early childhood adversity and trauma, provide a case-based discussion on differentiating trauma symptoms from other common issues (e.g., ADHD, anxiety), and give practical tips on how best to work with children, youth, and families affected by these issues. Topics include:• Current understanding of the science of early life adversity and trauma• Adversity and trauma in the office: Identification and diagnosis• Practical approach to supporting children and youth with early adversity and trauma in the office

SP09 Management of acute mental health presentations: Focus on agitation and non-suicidal self-injury

The differential diagnosis of acute mental health presentations can be broad and management approaches are often non-evidence based. This session will focus on commonly encountered acute mental health presentations including the management of agitation among children with neurodevelopmental disorders including ASD, among previously healthy youth, and office-based management approaches for children and youth with non-suicidal self-injurious behaviour. Topics include:• Approach to the acutely agitated developmentally delay patient: Diagnostic considerations and

management• Management of common presentations of agitation in the office and the ED among typically

developing children and youth• Assessment and care for non-suicidal self-injury in youth• Mental Health Journal Club: New research in acute mental health care

W4 Can you RELATE? Navigating care crises with parents in the paediatric hospital setting

Based on applied research, we created a simulation-based curriculum called RELATE (Recognize, Empathize, Listen, Align, Truth-telling, Empower) to help health care providers (HCP) develop knowledge and skills needed to navigate care crises (CC). CC occurs when differing perspectives between HCP and parents create conflict that threatens the delivery of optimal patient care. Workshop participants will learn about the RELATE Toolbox and apply relationship centered care principles in communication-based scenarios facilitated by certified debriefers.


W5 Increasing vaccine acceptance through motivational interviewing

Vaccine hesitancy is an increasing threat to children’s health due to the resurgence of measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases. In this workshop, participants will learn motivational interviewing principles that can improve their communication skills in addressing parents’ concerns about vaccination and moving them toward acceptance of vaccines.


W6 The assessment and management of septic shock in paediatrics

During this workshop, a case of a paediatric patient presenting with sepsis will be reviewed. The case will be presented in a simulation-based format. We will run through the case, while discussing the optimal management of the patient and the evidence supporting each decision. A hands-on session to practice two essential procedures in the assessment and management of these patients: intraosseous line insertion and lumbar puncture will also be offered.

G2 The CPS President’s Lecture and Awards for Excellence/Conférence de la présidente de la SCP et prix d’excellence

Towards best practices addressing cultural safety for Indigenous children in clinical settingsColonization, racism and discrimination in the health care system are recognized as contributing to poor health outcomes for Indigenous peoples. While these are understandably long-term issues, they can be initially addressed in a practical manner through a cultural safety approach. Drawing upon programming from BC (FNHA*), Manitoba and Ontario, participants will learn about cultural safety and how they might practically implement its principles in caring for Indigenous children and families.

Il est reconnu que la colonisation, le racisme et la discrimination dans le système de santé contribuent à la mauvaise santé des peuples autochtones. De toute évidence, il s’agit là d’enjeux à régler à long terme, mais il est possible de les aborder selon une approche respectueuse de la sécurité culturelle. Selection of articles will use a systematic approach, focusing on high-impact publications; an attempt will be made to cover a breadth of subjects and themes and to focus on publications which are likely to affect clinicians’ practice. Presentation of the articles will include a description of the research question, study design and methods, the main results as well as the conclusions and clinical implications of the research.

3A The Canadian Paediatric Society guidelines for autism assessment: A practical guide for paediatricians

Three new CPS position statements were developed to guide paediatricians and other providers in implementing accurate, cost and resource efficient, and child and family-centred assessment practices. These statements address key junctures in assessments: detection of emerging signs of ASD, formal diagnostic evaluation, and post-diagnosis follow-up care focusing on the role of the care provider. This seminar will support paediatricians in implementing these recommendations across diverse practice settings in Canada.

3B Choosing Wisely quick hits: Tests and treatments you should think twice about

Building on previous years presentations, this seminar will highlight the latest evidence behind various common tests and therapies that may no longer be indicated or may be overused. Presenters will cover a broad range of topics pertinent to community and hospital-based clinicians in the quick-hit format highlighting both the clinical applicability and a critical appraisal of the evidence in a succint accessible format.

3C Paediatric systemic lupus erythematosus: Everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask!

This interactive, case-based seminar will impart an approach for children with suspected paediatric systemic lupus erythematosus (pSLE). It will highlight timely strategies to help with diagnosis, management and complications common in patients with pSLE. This seminar will also offer guidance on ordering and interpreting autoantibody tests, and managing immune-suppressing medications; as well as anticipatory guidance relating to bone and reproductive health, e.g., contraception, neonatal lupus.

3D skINfections!This interactive session will provide an approach to common and concerning skin infections from a morphologic perspective. This will include eruptions and lesions presenting in the following categories: papular, dermatitic, pustular, vesicular and papulosquamous. An emphasis will be on how to distinguish these conditions from each other, confirming diagnosis and first-line management strategies where management is indicated.



SP11 A day in the life of a paediatric resident: An ED shift, a difficult patient and manuscript writing(for residents and medical students only/réservé aux résidents et aux étudiants en médecine)

The program will comprise of a CPS statement team-based learning activity, a didactic lecture on what to write while submitting a manuscript for publication to the Paediatrics and Child Health journal and an approach to a difficult patient encounter through a team-based learning activity. The team-based learning activity was highly successful last year and the theme of this year’s session will be ‘A shift in the ED’ and will review relevant CPS statements from the acute care committee. Topics include:• What not to write about: Tips on manuscript submissions• A shift in the ED: CPS Statement team-based learning• Simulation workshop: Approach to a difficult patient encounter

S4 Malnutrition: How does it impact the children I care for?

The symposium will review the current prevalence of paediatric malnutrition in Canadian hospitals, its consequences and the recommendations for best practice in prevention, detection and treatment using a case-based teaching model. A newly drafted algorithm called pINPAC (pediatric Integrated Nutrition Pathway for Acute Care) will be presented.

The UN Convention on the Rights of a Child declare that our children have the right to freedom from all forms of violence. From mass shootings to hate speech and rhetoric, children and youth today are at great risk of being exposed to and impacted by direct violence. Yet, in unpacking the roots of violence, we must understand how structural, historic and systemic discrimination, in particular racist and xenophobic discrimination, perpetuates these atrocities. u Register for SessionsBe sure to indicate your session preferences when you register. Sessions are seated on a first-come, first-served basis, and knowing in advance which ones are popular helps us to allocate appropriate meeting rooms.

Be sure to prioritize your sessions and arrive early to guarantee your seat. Once all seats are full, conference staff are required to close the session, and no additional attendees may enter until a seat becomes available. Turning away attendees at a popular session is the least-desired task of conference staff. We often hear, “But this session is the entire reason why I came to the conference!” If that is the case, please plan accordingly and arrive early. No exceptions will be made! This is also why conference staff cannot allow you to stand in the back of the room. We also encourage you to have a secondary session lined up in the event that your first choice is full.

You’ll have the option of a mobile event check-in using your smartphone or confirmation e-mail. Registration check-in counters are located in Plaza Foyer (Plaza Level) of the Hyatt Regency Vancouver. Proof of your credentials may be required.

Name badges are required for admission to all conference activities.

Media registrationThe CPS waives registration fees for accredited journalists and editorial staff of newspapers, magazines, medical or health care publications, or who work for broadcast or web-based media.

To obtain a media badge, a journalist or media representative must provide appropriate identification, such as a business card or letter of assignment. To certify they are covering the conference on their organization’s behalf, freelance journalists must provide a letter of assignment, written and signed by an editor, on the official letterhead of a recognized news entity.

Media personnel must register on-site at the conference registration desk and check in with CPS staff in the Media Room (Lord Byron Room, Fourth Floor) before they can be admitted to sessions. Media badges allow admission to all plenary sessions and seminars, and must be worn at all times.

To reach CPS media relations staff before or after the annual conference, call 1-613-526-9397 ext. 247, between 0800 hours and 1600 hours (EST). Once on-site, starting June 4, contact staff in the Media Room (Lord Byron Room, Fourth Floor). The Media Room provides interview space and internet access.

Media servicesCPS media relations staff can assist journalists by providing background information on child health issues and helping to set up interviews with speakers, CPS representatives or designated spokespeople.

Question-and-answer periods in sessions are reserved for delegates. Journalists should request an interview with a speaker from CPS media relations staff, or wait until the session is over before approaching a presenter personally.

Pour recevoir une cocarde des médias, un journaliste ou un représentant des médias doit fournir une preuve d’identification, telle qu’une carte professionnelle ou une lettre d’assignation. Les journalistes pigistes doivent fournir une lettre d’assignation sur papier à en-tête, rédigée et signée par l’éditeur d’une organisation de nouvelles reconnue attestant qu’il assiste au congrès pour le compte de cette organisation.

Les représentants des médias doivent s’inscrire au bureau d’inscription et se présenter au personnel de la SCP à la salle de presse (salon Lord Byron, quatrième étage) avant d’être admis aux séances.
