Other organizations supplying backpacks: Costco Boeing School on Wheels Many Mansions Catholic Charities St. Jude’s Church Church of the Latter Day Saints

No other organization provides the number or the consistency of our program

All schools contacted want backpacks

Emergency Kits

Contains clothing/supplies for school nurse to distribute as needed

For children who fall or have an accident

Started 2000-01 fiscal year Between 30-32 schools receive Kits No duplication Needed and appreciated

Provide new clothing/shoes for children in need in elementary schools

No duplication Changed to meet needs of children

and fit with mission statement to increase self-esteem in those we serve

dictionaries but not the same quality

Started 2004-05 with 75 students

Increased to 100 students for past two years

Volunteers read with children assigned by teacher

Recipient reported that progress was seen in children

Set up to handle one-time emergencies in our communities

Used during the Moorpark fires

Screening Eyes Early

Screening preschoolers for eye problems (e.g., colorblindness and lazy eye)

Lazy eye early detection is crucial, but rarely found.
