 Job Description: Program Associate, Mumbai About Avanti Avanti is a social enterprise established in March 2010 to help economically disadvantaged student s gain admission to India’s top engineering and medical colleges. At present, our team has 11 full-time employees and 250 student volunteers at 8 college campuses, and 350 students are enrolled in our  programs . Av anti is a Pan IIT Alumni India initiative, winner of th e Stan ford BASES Social E-Challe nge 2010 and recipient of the Echoing Green and Draper Richard Kaplan Foundation Fellowships 2012. From April 2013, Avanti will operate 3 Learning Centres in Mumbai (in Bhandup, Sion and Andheri). Our Learning Centres will provide access to high-quality video content and implement a pedagogy that lays emphasis on effective self-study, peer learning and mentoring. 150 students will be enrolled after a highly selective two-stage process designed to test aptitude, motivation and financial background. Overview of the Role and Requirements The Program Associate will manage the end-to-end operations of one Learning Centre in Mumbai. We are looking for self-driven candidates with excellent inter-personal and organizational skills and an attention to detail. Previous experience in the education/soc ial sector is a bonus. Roles and Responsibilit ies 1. Student Selection  Build strong relationships with schools across Mumbai to publicize Avanti’s selection tests, invite applicatio ns from students and conduct career guidance sessions  Manage direct outreach in low-income communities through multiple channels including community-based organizati ons, print media, unions etc.  Manage the test administration and home interview process to select 50 students 2. Learning Supervision  Conduct video classes and effectively supervise the class to maintain decorum and discipline  Motivate students to ensure productive use of class and computer facilities and focus on driving student engagement  Group fellows based on complementary strengths and weaknesses and create an environment conducive to collaboration and peer learning 3. Mentoring and Guidance  Conduct a weekly one-on-one review meeting with each student to evaluate performance and study strategy, create a customized study plan and monitor progress  Organize doubts-solving sessions with Avanti mentors and teachers 4. Testing, Reporting and Impact Assessment  Administer regular tests and rigorously measure learning outcomes and impact  Submit detailed weekly reports to the Program Manager capturing class attendance, performance on tests and academic focus areas for each student Joining Date May 2013 Compensation Rs. 2.5-3.5 Lac per annum (based on experience and fit)
