Why Galileo? The Galileo program is designed to meet the needs of the gifted and academically talented students
through their middle school years. Galileo represents a cohort of students working with a group of Col-
lege Board Advanced Placement trained teachers providing students with rigorous and challenging aca-
demic coursework in an effort to prepare them for the academic demands of high school and beyond.
Life Skills Learned: 21st century skills needed to be successful in school
and career include critical thinking and problem
solving, collaboration, communication, and adaptive
thinking. The increased rigor of these courses will
give Galileo students’ minds a workout, help im-
prove time management and study skills, as well as
increase competency in 21st century skills.
AP Trained Teachers: All teachers in the Galileo program are College
Board Advanced Placement trained and certified.
They have been trained to provide inquiry based
instruction, higher level thinking, and an accelerated
curriculum. Students enrolled in Galileo are ex-
pected to be hard workers who recognize the im-
portance of a college education. Galileo classes are
designed to be rigorous in order to prepare stu-
dents for AP classes in high school.
Elective and High School Courses: Students have the opportunity to earn up to six
high school credits while in middle school. If appli-
cable, students can earn credits in Algebra 1 Hon-
ors, Geometry Honors, Biology Honors, Spanish 1,
Spanish 2, and Digital Information Technology.
