ABOUT THE FACULTY AND AUTHOR

Throughout his 30-year legal career, Frank Lockwoodhas been a leader in innovation in the practice of law. Hewas the first lawyer-mediator trained in the State ofHawaii, was founder and Chair of the Section onAlternative Dispute Resolution of the Hawaii Bar,successfully advocated the use of mediation in FamilyCourt cases, and designed and conducted the firstmediation training for judges and lawyers. He pioneered

the use of spreadsheets in alimony and property settlement cases in divorceand designed the first computerized family court forms program in Hawaii. Hewas Chair of the Family Law Section of the HSBA. Mr. Lockwood also installedcomputer systems into laws firms and trained lawyers and staff in the use ofvarious software applications. He first conceived of the very successfulVolunteer Settlement Master Program in the First Circuit Court of Hawaii.

Mr. Lockwood is the author of the highly-regarded Run Your Firm Like aBusiness: An Operations Guide for the Solo Practitioner and Small Law Firm(ABA 2013). In 2014, he wrote two articles on best law practices, whichwere published in the ABA’s GPSOLO Magazine. After selling his practice tohis younger partners, he retired to Durango, Colorado where he lives withhis wife, June, and his dog, Lanikai. He now teaches and consults withlawyers all over the country on re-thinking and redesigning more efficientsystems for their law firms.
