PROGRAM 1 DRILLING TECHNOLOGIES
OBJECTIVEProgram 1 will extend the capability of Coiled Tubing (CT) drilling so it can drill deeper, is steerable and delivers the highest quality sampling. Coiled tubing technology promises drilling at 1/5th the cost of conventional diamond drilling and thus has the potential to drive a revolution in mineral exploration whilst delivering significant health, safety and environmental benefits. Drilling tasks that are more suited to conventional drilling will also be tackled by the MinEx CRC, developing technologies for optimising the performance and increasing the productivity of Reverse Circulation (RC) and diamond drilling techniques.

PROJECT 2: COILED TUBING DRILLING FOR DEFINITION OF MINERAL DEPOSITS
LEADER: Soren Soe
PARTICIPANTS: Anglo American, BHP, Epiroc, LKAB Wassara, MRIWA, South 32, Curtin University, CSIRO, UniSA
RESOURCES: $2.17M (cash) + $2.10M (in‐kind)
PERFORMANCE TARGET (Life‐of‐MinEx CRC):
To improve the sample integrity of CT drilling to that of diamond drilling, then develop the ability to drill multiple deviated holes, up to 1000 m reach, from a single pad, to within 10 m of target and surveyed within 1 m, whilst maintaining the cost, rapidity, safety and environmental benefits of a greenfield CT rig.
PROJECT 2: COILED TUBING DRILLING FOR DEFINITION OF MINERAL DEPOSITS
• Extend the reach of mineral exploration Coiled Tubing drilling to at least 1000m.
• Develop steering of the drill bit, while drilling hard rock with the possibility of drilling several geological targets from the same drill pad or the same hole.
• Deliver sample integrity comparable to diamond coring.

LEADER: Shane Fox
PARTICIPANTS: MinEx CRC, Curtin University, CSIRO, UniSA
RESOURCES: $1.45M (cash) + $621K (in‐kind)
PERFORMANCE TARGET (Life‐of‐MinEx CRC):
To clean, prepare and replenishing drilling fluid at low‐cost, rapidly, safely and environmentally‐friendly. The technology will enable the HPS‐system to be moved and set‐up safely and efficiently in the field as well as over longer distances by one person.
