2. PLANTATION OF SAPLINGS
Trees are an important part of every community. Government Polytechnic, Chintamani is
having total 10.5 Acres area. Our streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards are lined with trees
that create a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing environment. Over 1000 trees are grown in this
area. We gather under the cool shade they provide during outdoor activities, studies, group
discussion etc., Using trees in college campus to deflect the sunlight reduces the heat island
effect caused by pavement and commercial buildings.
National Service Scheme Unit of Government Polytechnic, Chintamani is continuously
focusing on plantation of saplings. Every year we are planting the saplings inside the college
premises and nearby villages. We are taking the support from forest office which is located in
Chintamani for having free saplings. Sometimes we are taking help from municipal office to
pour water to the saplings in summer seasons.

5.3 Swachh Bharat Campaign
If proper hygiene and sanitation will not become a practice in our country then no one will be
able to save the country from the health hazards and losses that will loom over the Indian
populace in near future. So, let's make Swachh Bharat a mass movement and save our country
from all the dangers.
Swachh Bharat Campaign: The Abhiyan was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on
2nd of October, 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi with an aim to make India clean. Aim is to provide
sanitation facilities to every family, including toilets, solid and liquid waste disposal systems,
village cleanliness, and safe and adequate drinking water supply by 2nd October, 2019. It will
be a befitting tribute to the Father of the Nation on his 150th birth anniversary. It is significant
that the PM himself is taking very proactive role in making the campaign a success; at Rajghat
he started the campaign by cleaning the street himself.
National Service Scheme Unit of government polytechnic, Chintamani has started campaign

Water resource management awareness rally
Sustainable water management is one of the global grand challenges of our time. Tackling this
challenge through corrective actions would require the participation of the general public, a
public with sound awareness of the challenge and commitment. One such awareness raising
intervention could be through the use of water symbolism and proverbs, targeted to particular
society. Chickballapur and Kolar district is facing lot of water resource issue from few years.

6. CREATION OF DURABLE ASSETS THROUGH
SHRAMADAAN
6.1 Academic Year 2015-16
Wherever possible, a community should avoid the health risks which result from using
contaminated pond water, by using an alternative, good-quality source. (Groundwater or
rainwater sources will usually produce water of much better quality.) If a pond is the only
source of water, cleaning the surrounding area will help to improve the quality of the water. It
is not easy to find a sustainable way to produce good-quality potable water from ponds, but
any improvement in the quality of pond water is worth the effort.
National service scheme unit of government polytechnic, Chintamani worked hard to clean the
pond which is located in Kagathi village. Our NSS volunteers removed the suspended matter
and pathogenic organisms in pond and cleaned surrounding areas.

6.3 Drainage cleaning work
In villages, running water is an important part of so many daily tasks. Cleaning, cooking, toilet
usage, and bathing all require the use of water. Drainage systems can indeed become clogged
with hair, soap, and other objects. There are a number of factors that can contribute to drains
getting backed up. But they are pretty much obvious. Any object other than water that enters
the system can cause blockage. When this happens, it is best to get them cleaned the right way.
Drain cleaning services are the best option when in need of drain cleaning in village.
National Service Scheme Unit of Government Polytechnic, Chintamani worked hard during
NSS special camp 2014-15 and cleaned the drainage up to 3 Kms in booragamakana Halli,

6.4 Pond cleaning work
Ponds are little containers of biodiversity; however, because ponds are small standing bodies
of water, they may be easily disrupted by human activity. Activities such as overgrazing by
cattle, fertilization and sewage runoff may damage the delicate balance of pond’s health. Even
the well-intentioned addition of fish, plants, or retaining walls can cause damage to the ecology.
Pond conservation works to rehabilitate the ecological health and restore life to your
waterscape.

7. OTHER OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS
7.1 Academic Year 2015-16
National Service scheme unit of government polytechnic Chintamani has a vision of serving
society by using technology.
Our institute is educating the aspirants in technological field to serve the society. We adopted
this as our vision of NSS and we started working towards technological field by joining final
year students from different courses to execute our dreams into practical. From the academic
year 2015-16 we are developing the agricultural equipment at low cost and distributing the
same to the formers of adopted village.
During the year 2015-16, our NSS volunteers from mechanical engineering course are designed
and implemented the manual tiller. This is very essential for the formers to remove weed in the
cultivated areas.
7.2 Manual tiller or Weed Removing Equipment (Weeders)
Weeds are one of the major causes of loss of agricultural produce. Weeds compete with crops
for essential nutrients. In agriculture, it’s a very difficult task to weed out unwanted plants
manually as well as using bullock operated equipment’s which may further lead to damage of
main crops. More than 33 percent of the cost incurred in cultivation is diverted to weeding
operations there by reducing the profit share of farmers. Weeders are machines used for weed
removal. Mechanical weeding is one of the prominent forms of weed removal. Smaller weeding
machines commonly known as portable weeders are solely used for weed removal in
agricultural fields, gardens, public parks, etc. Unlike tractors, weeders are non-conventional so
far as the displacement of labours is concerned. In promoting weeders especially considering
the fact that the majority of farmers are having small land. So they can hardly afford costlier
tractors. Therefore, the weeder should become a useful machine in the internal cleaning of
crops which having small distance between them like groundnuts, sugarcane, soya bin crops,
cultivation of paddy, in particular, and other crops in general for the smaller farmers.

7.2.3 Ploughing equipment
Ploughing equipment is used to loosen the soil in between the planted crop which is usually
wasted by the formers. The space between the planted area is too small for tractor or tiller to
do the work, where we can use this ploughing equipment as a soil loosening, mixing of
fertilisers and weed removal purpose with least expense. Here we need not use animals with
least human effort formers can do the work and fulfil their requirements.
