ACTIVITIES OF NSS UNIT

Just after joining the college in BA/B.Sc. Semester I, the students of GDC R.S. Pura joined its
NSS unit. Principal Dr. S.P. Sharma along with programme officer Dr. Jaipal Singh interacted
with the NSS volunteers and counted its importance during the times of war,peace,
drought,earthquakes, flash flood or any kind of natural calamity where the services of
humanity is utmost needed. Dr Jaipal Singh welcomed the new entrants of NSS unit and
thanked Principal Dr. S.P. Sharma for enlightening and encouraging new entrants for
joining the NSS unit of the college.
Collection of donation for flood victim’s of J&K State by NSS
Volunteer’s of the college J & K suffered heavily by the floods across various parts of the state during the
year 2014. Many thousands went
home less and properties worth
thousands of crores damaged
besides loss of human lives and
living stock. NSS volunteers of GDC
R.S. Pura collected a total of Rs
13,500 in different sealed donation
boxes and opened the same in the
office of Principal with the Principal
on chair and in the presence of senior
faculty members Prof Satpaul Bhagat,
Prof Ghanjit Singh, Prof Rajesh
Kotwal, Dr Jaipal Singh (NSS Programme officer) & NSS volunteers of BA/B.Sc.
semester I, Part II and Part III respectively. Collected amount was finally
deposited in the Chief Minister’s relief Fund Account Number.

R.S. Pura on 26/09/2014. Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan by NSS unit
Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan was started
from within the college campus on 2nd
October 2014 with the swachhta
shapath ( pledge ). All the NSS
volunteers took active part in the
Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan along with
Principal and college fraternity.
Volunteers of NSS unit took a pledge
to be the active member of clean India
drive both within and outside the college to clean India till 2019 so as to fulfill the dreams
of our dynamic Prime Minister Sh. Narinder Modi. Staff members of GDC R.S. Pura actively
participated in the Swachhta Abhiyaan.
One day camp was organized within the college premises where volunteers were briefed
with various activities regarding cleanliness drive to be started from within the campus
and its effective spread to villages/slums/hospitals/ historical monuments and other
public places in future.
Celebrated Global Hand washing Day( 15th October) and World Toilet Day ( 19th
November) by the NSS volunteers by participating in an essay writing competition on these
days. Essay writing competition was held within the college campus in physics Department
to inculcate general awareness among the NSS volunteers and college students so as to
spread the message of cleanliness among the masses of the society on 20/01/2015.
Rallies were conducted on Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan which went through various parts of
the locality and finally culminated at GDC R.S. Pura.
SDM R.S. Pura in his SVEEP programme organized at GDC R.S. Pura on 11/12/2014 also
spoke about the Swasth Bharat through 4C’s ( clean mind, clean body, Clean environment
and clean society).

coordinator S. Balwinder Singh also spoke
on11/12/2014 about clean mind and clean
thought for healthier outcome in every
sphere of activity, may it be voting,
education, social relations, individual health
and growth or countries development and
progress.
Four day cleanliness drive within the college campus was held w.e.f 25/12/2014 to
29/12/2014. During these days NSS Volunteers did cutting of extra shoots of trees, weeds
uprooting and grass cuttings.
NSS Volunteers along with daily wagers also did white wash of the front four walls,
cemented part of entrance, parking place of vehicles…etc.. besides white wash of all the
lawn bricks to beautify the entrance of the
college and college lawn. The cleanliness drive
was initiated within the college campus instead
of organizing a week long camp, keeping in view
the immediate university examination of
students of B.Sc. semester –I, much delayed due
to assembly election-2014 ( i.e. w.e.f
07/01/2015 to 27/01/2015), as their
enrolment number was maximum in the NSS
unit.
Celebration of International Youth Day(IYD-2014) by NSS
Unit
International youth Day (IYD – 2014 ) was celebrated with great fervor and gaity by the
NSS volunteers within the college campus w.e.f 12/08/14 to20/08/14..The theme was
Mentle Health Matters. Poster making competition was held in the college library. Twenty
students took part in poster making competition. Prof Satpaul Bhagat, Prof Mala Bhasin,
Arti Choudhary (lecturer) were the judges of the event. Ms – Sangeet kour of BA semester-I,
R.No. 573 was declared first, Ms Surbhi Chib,
R.No 156 of B.Sc semester I was declared IInd
and Ms Teghdar Kour of BA semester I was
declared III in the competition. Result was
declared by one of the Judges Prof Satpaul
Bhagat in the presence of Principal. Principal
Dr S.P. Sharma congratulated the winners and
encouraged all the participants both active
and passive to contribute in nation building.
Principal Dr. S.P. Sharma emphasized the volunteers and audience to decimate/deliver the
message of International Youth Day in the locality and its adoption/implementation in true
letter and spirit. Celebration of Quami Ekta Divas by NSS Unit
Quami Ekta Divas was celebrated in the college with great farvour and gaity.
Poster making competition was also held in the premises of the College. Ms
Anupriya Sacchar, Lecturer in Zoology, was the supervisor of the contest. Fifteen
students participated in the contest. Prof Satpal Bhagat , Prof Rajesh Kotwal were
the judges of the poster making competition. Ms Anupriya Sacchar(lecturer)
compiled the result and Dr Jaipal Singh declared the result. Shuvam Sharma of
B.Sc. part II was declared first in poster making competition on Ekta Divas
.Principal Dr S.P. Sharma felicitated the students for their marvelous efforts in the
painting competition on Ekta Divas.
Participation of NSS Volunteers in SVEEP -2014
NSS volunteers participated in poster making competition held in the college
premises along with other students on SVEEP-2014. The programme was
conducted by SDM R.S.Pura for bringing the awareness among the masses
regarding vote, voter and voting. NSS volunteers actively participated in the
cleanliness drive before and after the occasions at GDC R.S. Pura, besides assisting
the fraternity in maintaining discipline during the SVEEP Programme.
Celebration of Human Rights Day by NSS Unit
Human Rights Day was celebrated within the college on 10/12/2014. Fifteen NSS
Volunteers and students of the college spoke on the occasion. NSS Volunteer Navjot Dogra
of B.Sc. part III was declared First, Savneet Kour and Preeti Dogra of BA & B.Sc. part II were
declared second while Ranjana Hans was declared 3rd by the panel of judges Prof Satpaul
Bhagat, Prof Ranjot Singh, Prof Anupamma Sharma..
Earlier Principal Dr S.P. Sharma, all the three Judges of the event, programme coordinator
Dr. Jaipal Singh NSS participants, volunteers and students took the pledge on Human Rights
Day.
Celebration of National youth Day by NSS Volunteers
A quiz competition was held within the college campus on 22nd of
January 2015 on Leadership and Personality Development. Nearly
twenty students from different streams and classes took active
participation in the quiz. Group I – Preeti Dogra and Priyanka ,Group
V- Jeevan jot and Ruchi, Group VII -Navjot and Phelu stood first,
second and third respectively. Prof Satpaul H.O.D of Education, Prof
RajeshKant H.O.D of Chemistry, Prof Netar Parkash Sharma(Physics) ,
were the judges of the event. Ms Anupriya Sachhar(lecturer Zoology)
declared the result. Principal Dr S.P.Sharma encouraged the NSS
Volunteers for their active participation and role of NSS unit in every
activity of the college.
Programme officer Dr Jaipal Singh thanked Principal Dr S.P. Shrma,
Judges of the event and others present during the quiz competition.
Dr Jaipal Singh also extended thanks to Dr Vishav Raksha, Programme
coordinator–NSS, University of Jammu, for providing valuable
information from time to time in the larger interest of NSS Volunteers of
G.D.C.-R.S. Pura.
