…has just begun… A new era in fuel distribution… T he first Ro/Ro Tanker in the world, successfully tested in a rough sea trial on Black Sea, has been delivered to its new owner. CMT Engineering Ltd, the designer of this pioneering concept, has proved that all the promised characteristics have been fulfilled with success. Finally, our idea has become a reality and this beautiful ship named ‘Maistros’ will start to operate in the Greek Islands, providing fast and reliable fuels distribution to the gas stations located all over the islands of the Aegean Sea. It is well understood in Europe and elsewhere that the liquid fuel market includes a large part of the island areas where gas stations operate to serve local needs. In these areas, the supply of fuel by sea was performed either by passenger vessels dedicated to serve these islands, or by older type (single hull) vessels with an antiquated technology. In both cases, there were great difficulties in planning and in promptly supplying the gas stations. At the same time, danger was involved as far as safety and the protection of the environment are concerned. This is now history because our company, with all these factors in mind, has worked hard to create a new modern and revolutionary concept to serve the islands regions. After many studies and thousands of hours of work, this dream has become a reality. …has just begun…A new era in fueldistribution…

T he first Ro/Ro Tanker in theworld, successfully tested in arough sea trial on Black Sea, has

been delivered to its new owner. CMTEngineering Ltd, the designer of thispioneering concept, has proved that allthe promised characteristics have beenfulfilled with success. Finally, our ideahas become a reality and this beautifulship named ‘Maistros’ will start tooperate in the Greek Islands, providingfast and reliable fuels distribution to thegas stations located all over the islandsof the Aegean Sea.

It is well understood in Europe andelsewhere that the liquid fuel marketincludes a large part of the island areaswhere gas stations operate to servelocal needs. In these areas, the supply offuel by sea was performed either bypassenger vessels dedicated to servethese islands, or by older type (singlehull) vessels with an antiquated

technology. Inboth cases, there weregreatdifficulties inplanning andin promptlysupplying thegas stations. At the sametime, dangerwas involvedas far assafety and the protectionof theenvironmentare concerned.

This is now history because ourcompany, with all these factors in mind, has worked hard to create a newmodern and revolutionary concept toserve the islands regions.

After many studies and thousands ofhours of work, this dream has become areality. The first ships of this class, the‘M/V MAISTROS’ was delivered toGreece in the beginning of April 2008,

while the ‘M/V OSTRIA’ was launched inMarch 2008. These special ships havebeen designed and built with thecapacity to transport liquid fuels safely, with features such as a contemporarydouble hull, double bottom tankers, and,at the same time, they are able to carryfour tank trucks that will transport fuelfrom the ships to the gas stations and toindustrial clients (factories, quarries, small industries).

These ocean-going RO/RO Tankers arecapable of carrying six different oil

products with a total capacity of2,640,000 litres. They are 89.95 metresin length, 14 metres in width, have amaximum draught of 4.40 metres, areable to travel in all weather conditions, and are outfitted with the mostadvanced technology.

Each ship will carry four tank trucks, each with a 30,000 litres capacity, andthe most advanced loading system forthe trucks on-board the ship (from thebottom of the ship).

The Ro/Ro Tankers are also designed andapproved to transport full loaded cisterntrucks inside the closed garage. Thiscombination of uses for the ships – anopen sea tanker as well as a RO/RO (carferry) – is considered revolutionary inthe liquid fuel transportation sector.

In reality they are not only floating liquidfuel installations, with a capacity to fullyserve the needs of the islands and thecoastal areas in the most contemporaryand safe manner, but they can also beused as a navy ship to provide fueldistribution in difficult to access areaswhere no harbour facilities available or

to support operations by means ofsupplying fuels and other liquid cargoes.
