Editor’s note

Do you love nature? Such not an idle question has far-reaching consequences. As far-reaching as the future of mankind can be seen. And we, now living, with the answer to this question and especially with the actions that confirm our answer, are founding the future.

You may ask why a production company wonders of nature and ecology? The question is put as the contribution of each person can affect the outcome of the operation. The operation for the conservation of nature and ultimately — the preservation of humanity.

It is very difficult to carry out any management at the intersection of economics and ecology. Ecological production is always a question of priorities. The relationship between caring for nature and production development — a dilemma that requires a permanent solution. So, here the actions of the head manager towards the environment and energy efficiency are particularly important. Even if it is more expensive in the beginning, in the end the choice in favor of nature and mankind will pay back many times over.

Let me cite gorgeous lines by Igor Guberman about the nature’s fairness:

For each of us the preservation of nature begins with ourselves and with our own home. For everybody energy savings are available in energy-saving lamps, in the use of motion sensors, intelligent heating devices, taking into account the user’s priority and reacting to temperature changes, in water savings and all kinds of heat. This that can and should be done every day. It would seem that the savings for each individual person or small house are insignificant, but it is only at the first glance. All across the country that will help to save huge amounts of energy! Moreover, by saving energy, you are contributing to the fight against global warming.

Let the reading of this issue give you some idea of what else you can save for yourself and for Mother Nature’s benefit!

Mobile operator Velcom in Belarus launches the largest solar power plant in the country. A new project is being implemented near the village of Bragin and presents a bright example of the participation of the private sector in the development of areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The solar power plant will comprise 85 thousand solar panels that occupy an area of 56 hectares, which is equivalent to the area of 80 football fields. To tie together all the solar modules, the Velcom paving 800 km of cable lines, which is comparable to the distance between Minsk and Moscow. The power plant capacity will be a record for the Belarusian solar installations — 22,3 MW. This is more than enough, for example, for the operation

of the entire evening illumination in Minsk. Velcom will invest over 23 mln. euro in the solar power project. The company is considering «green» energy as a long-term project in the promising market and as a contribution to the country's environmental preservation. The company plans to sell energy from the station, describing the project as «commercially green». Velcom also hopes to cover 50 % of its own needs with this solar power.

The inventors of Sevastopol have developed a wheeled wind turbine. The �rst prototype has already been installed on a solar power plant in one of the city’s districts. At the core of construction – wind wheel with diameter of half a meter, which starts spinning even with the breeze and does not produce any noise during rotation. It will withstand any wind force - even a hurricane.At the wind speed of seven meters per second Sevastopol «windmill» is capable of producing about 3 kW/h and the battery accumulates about 50 kW per day. According to the inventors, it will provide electricity for four apartments.

The world’s largest commercial solar power plant was recently installed on the roof of the shopping center in the Philippines. The station generates 2,9 MW of clean energy used to power the mall. According to the developers of the project, they will seek to bring the total solar power generation up to 12,5 MW through the construction of 10 solar power plants, they should be placed on the roofs of shopping centers. In its press release the company said that those 10 solar power plants would generate totally nearly 16 million kW / h of clean energy, savings are about 8760 tons of emissions of CO2 per year, which is equivalent, according to the developer, of planting of 223 965 trees.

The roofing tile which generates electricity and heat has been patented in Russia. Krasnodar investigation has three goals: the protection of the roof, electricity generating and water heating. One product unit is designed for the production of electricity generation with capacity of 20 W and for water heating up to 65 °C. To generate the power of 1 kW, it is necessary to put 50 pieces of such tiles on the roof in the area of 12 – 13 m2. In the shadow side of the roof regular tiles without photocells are mounted. Such a hybrid

system of energy supply will be much cheaper than solar cells and solar collectors used today in the world. Temperature mode of innovative tiles ranges from  — 40 °C to + 90 °C. Product developers have also provided protective measures to save solar roofs from snow, hail, leaves, pollution.Developing company plans to launch production of tiles in Russia, and works actively on making a business plan and finding investment. There are no analogues of such products in the world at the present moment.

Seminar for responsible managers 2016. On the �rst summer weekend on the shores of the Gorky Sea an annual seminar for responsible managers was held. The seminar was attended by representatives of more than 30 partner companies from all over Russia. By tradition, the program has been intensive — half-time was �lled with the studies of the technical features of the heating equipment, the second part was devoted to the provisions of the partnership contract and improvements of

sales techniques. During the �rst technical part the innovations of 2016 were presented  — intelligent electric boilers EVAN EXPERT and EVAN UNIVERSAL and PELLUX pellet boiler. Meetings with responsible managers is not only a good tradition and a part of the marketing strategy of our company. First of all, such seminar gives a great opportunity for both sides to gain knowledge and experience, and to discuss pressing issues in a pleasant atmosphere. We thank all participants and look forward to seeing each other next year.

The first seminars on energy-saving technologies in heating on the basis of NIBE equipment took place in May in the new scientific and educational center of the State Energy University in Kazan. At the basic course the principles of the heat pump were explained, the standard wiring diagrams were shown, and training exercises with the current pump were held. Second, deep course on geothermal heat pumps included the study of the extended use of heat pumps, docking methods with external equipment and, of course, the current practice with energy-saving devices.Positive feedback and a lot of new requests to participate in training seminars show that energy-saving technology is becoming an important part of the lives of more and more people. The company «EVAN», as a part of the NIBE Group, with the great responsibility takes over educational functions to carry eco-friendly ideas to the masses.

Aqua-Therm Exhibition 2016 in Saint Petersburg. At the exhibition stand the «EVAN» company presented a new generation of intelligent energy-saving electric boilers, new items in the group of solid fuel boilers and energy-saving equipment, as well as the already well-known and proven product lines of EVAN and NIBE.Question of import substitution, the leitmotif of the exhibition, drew attention to the event of large distributors and installers as well as of individual clients. Within the business program on import substitution, CEO Deputy in Production Alexander Shibanov made a presentation on the electric boiler EVAN EXPERT, which has no analogues at the market.

Triple strength at Batimat Russia Exhibition. Heat pump NIBE became once again the heart of the heating system of a passive house. The developer of energy efficient building in the village of Popovo of Moscow region was the company «Interstroy». Heating project for the Passive House, including a geothermal heat pump NIBE F1145–10 PC and solar collector Solar FP 215 P, was implemented by the EVAN partner  — the company «Teplosoyuz». Shoulder to shoulder the representatives of all three companies were at an international construction and interior exhibition Batimat Russia, one section of which was devoted to the technology of the passive houses» construction. The visitors had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with energy-efficient products in the framework of a unified concept of the passive house, to learn about the features and the real experience of its application. At the stand of «Interstroy» the particular interest was shown to the current NIBE geothermal heat pump, similar to that used in the project.

Seminar on the activities of the platform SymbioCity in Russia took place on May 27 in the building of the Government of the Moscow Region. SymbioCity is the Swedish model of urban development, with which Sweden succeeded for 28 years in reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 40 %, and all this with 87 % of the GDP growth.The «EVAN» company was among the speakers at the seminar, and it is not by accident! Over the last decade our company has accumulated vast experience in implementing energy-saving technologies which is actively interesting for the Department of Energy of the Moscow Region that faces the task of providing heating in the villages near Moscow with no gas solutions.

The annual meeting of the companies, being the parts of NIBE Energy Systems in the Swedish city of Malmö (Malmö) was attended by the «EVAN» CEO Valery Terekhov and the head of the Department of energy-saving technologies Alexey Kuzmin. 70 people from 25 countries determined the vector of further development of the NIBE corporation against the backdrop of global climate change. Also at the event was announced the renaming of NIBE Energy Systems Division in NIBE Climate Solutions Division. The phrase «climate solution» is more capacious and specifies the activity of 35 companies that make up the division, including the «EVAN» company.

The «EVAN» team took the second pride place in the football tournament «Cup of climate» in Moscow. Our football team for the first time took part in the tournament and immediately achieved impressive results, for which we received the title of «Discovery of the Year». Totally, 16 teams from the best companies of the HVAC market fought for the gold of the championship. Apart from the main sporting event, the competition for support groups was held on the field. Our cheerleaders showed top class, taking the first prize! But this does not end the list of regalia brought by our guys from Moscow: the title of «the best goalkeeper of the Climate Cup 2016» was given to the athlete of our team, Vladimir Bukharev. We are proud of our team and wish them further sporting and professional victories!

Additional member to the large family of NIBE: the deal on the acquisition of the Climate Control Group company, as well as her «daughters», was completed: ClimateMaster, IEC, ClimateCraft and ClimaCool. The sum of the whole transaction was $ 364 million.Climate Control Group (CCG) is a North American company based in Oklahoma City, is one of the leaders in the production of water and geothermal heat pumps for domestic and semi-industrial applications. At the end of 2015 the company employs 1259 people and its annual revenue reached $ 274 million. The Swedish company does not hide the

fact that the acquired company is considered as a springboard for an attack on the North American market. New NIBE asset will continue to work as a separate entity and will retain the previous management team.

Oleg Skrobot:— Heat pumps? It was 2009. Before I was very far

from the engineering industry. I learned about them by chance from a magazine about the construction «Your House». And just a few days after reading the article I met with two friends who were also interested in this topic. We established business. However, we started with the order not having any relation to heat pumps, — street lighting made on photovoltaic modules. But heat pumps on their way too. The first project with the heat pump was truly spectacular: for residential cottage with an impressive area of 1000 m². We installed the most powerful heat pump NIBE F1345 of 60 kW. With access to the pond, we placed the collector in the lake, which is very rare. Moreover, as far as I know, this was the first heat pump in Siberia at all. Later during the same year, there was a project in Novokuznetsk with the ground-source pump F1145 and three solar panels. Start with «air pumps» was difficult — due to the harsh climate in our region people are skeptical of such systems, but we overcame the prejudice and in 2012 started with the air / water pumps NIBE F2040 and F2300. That's the way we have developed, and now we already have our own distribution network with offices in Novosibirsk, Kemerovo Region, Altai Territory.

Mikhail Degtyarev:— «Naturally-determined» chance inspired us to

become engaged into the energy-saving technologies. I was invited to a meeting to discuss the heat pumps as an alternative heat source. I was interested in this topic first of all technically, since I had before been engaged in the installation of the boiler equipment. It became a pleasant discovery for me that there are innovative solutions for efficient heating and hot water.

I will always remember our first project. We were enthusiastic and, one might say, the pioneers. Imagine — two top managers on the site, dressed as workers and started installation of a heat pump, such a service «Chief Installation»! By the way, everything worked on the first try. Then there were more interesting, and larger projects, but the first one, and even with our own hands — it is unforgettable!

In the business club of «EVAN-news» we have united executive managers, promoting energy-saving equipment, and learnt how they came to the idea to start a business in this area, what their customers want and how should start those people who just decided to set a course for the «green» business.

Victor Antipenko, General Director, LLC Company of Alternative Energy «Heat Pumps»,Irkutsk

Victor Antipenko:— Heat pumps for me are absolutely goal-oriented

choice. In our region, many companies are engaged in sectors of solar collectors, photovoltaic panels and wind turbines, but none of them are engaged in the sector of professional heat pumps. I wanted to do what others were not able to do. Since my first education is technical, heat pumps immediately conquered me with their «magic» of creating heat. Therefore, in August 2012, we set up a Company of Alternative Energy «Heat pumps» for the design, sale, installation and service of systems based on geothermal devices.

Andrey Andreev:— I was looking for a long time for goods, rather

attractive to the buyer, with a high share of services in the final product: finished heat generating installation. It allows to work closely with our customers, providing them with a quality product. Heating technology on the basis of heat pumps offers customers a real choice among the available alternative sources. The decision to start a business in the field of energy-saving technologies was a projection of our experience, knowledge, and personal desires.

Nikita Maltsev:— For us, it is certainly not a occasion. Kaliningrad

and the Kaliningrad region — an unusual Russian region. Maximum proximity of Europe has a special influence. We are engaged in engineering services almost 15 years already — and all the time, due to the specifics of our geographical position, we permanently communicated with our European partners. From them we learnt about alternative forms of heating and realized that there are prospects for the development of such systems in Russia. In the mid-2000s we worked with the company from Lithuania. It's no secret that the energy-efficient technologies have taken a stable niche there long ago. Inspired by the success of our Lithuanian partners in the geothermal sector, we got also interested in heat pumps. At that time, we had the first pilot projects with NIBE, and that brought our company to the market.

Now, 10 years later, in the Kaliningrad region the heat pump sector has confidently and seriously stepped forward. Also, a list of our services is getting wider: we started with the «privateers» — private houses, villas, baths, and over the years took to the industrial level — dealing with engineering systems of office buildings, shopping centers, gas stations, projects of Russian Railways and others. Recently, we finished a large project of the boiler room with pumps NIBE F1345 of 60 kW each and horizontal collector of 10 kilometers in length in the floodplain of the river Pregel. Installation was carried out practically in a swampy area, we are looking forward to the high heat of soil and are waiting for the first winter!

Victor Antipenko:— In its early days the energy-efficient technology was only business

philosophy for me. But the more heat pumps are installed by out company, the more business philosophy is turning to the ecophilosophy of life.

Since we have, in the Irkutsk region, the cheapest electricity in Russia (0,72 rub. / KW), most of the clients of our company choose heat pumps by personal conviction. And it is extremely rare — from saving purposes. Some customers choose heat pumps due to lack of technical conditions for connecting to centralized power. In one case, a customer in the Moscow Region installed a heat pump to be confident about the future. Whatever rising prices for gas, electricity or diesel, it will always be the minimum cost for vital heat and hot water. In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the client chose the heat pump from environmental considerations. On the island of Sakhalin, where there is no gas, diesel boilers are used for heating. Therefore, when it is cold, the streets smell of exhaust fumes like the vehicle fleet. Once, we had the project after the fire. In the village of Mammon of the Irkutsk region the porch of the house was burnt because of the wiring circuit. Therefore, the customer, choosing a heat source for a new house, based on the lowest power consumption. In general, the story about each project can be very long, because each of them is special and distinctly unforgettable for its nuances.

Mikhail Degtyarev:— Of course, the «green» technology is not just a business. Before, it was

generally difficult to call it business! We were and are enthusiasts, because the alternative energy market is being formed in our country, and it takes time for people to learn and consciously make a choice in favor of «green» energy.

Our clients are often guided by practical criteria — they choose heat pumps as an effective alternative to the standard devices in the absence of gas, as the economic climate system with a long service life, requiring no specialized annual service. Those who decided to step on this road — I wish you patience, luck and pure energy!

Andrey Andreev:— Each buyer finds own arguments in favor of energy-

saving technologies. The main thing — to help them to focus on the most important ones and to make a choice. We pay great attention to the needs of each client and their individual needs. We remember our projects for the clients' feedback and on the final results. We put our energy and knowledge in each of our projects: installation of new equipment with a variety of accessories or service calls. We remember all the project for which we heard «thank you».

Our customers, buying heat pumps, in one way or another become adherents of the ecophilosophy. We like the fact that there are more and more such people in our country. The company is not yet positioned itself in the global conservation of the ecology of the Earth, but we know that heat pumps make possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Those who only thinks to step into a «green» business, I would like to advise to find their own buyer.

Oleg Skrobot:— Personally I, unfortunately, have not the most

environmentally friendly way of life, but I have plans to build a house, and then I'll get on this track! I think it's not necessary to say that a heat pump will be installed in my house. By the way, I want to mention that all my companions use energy-efficient equipment in their private life, and it is not only heat pumps, as minimum they use LED lamps, automatic control of lighting, photovoltaic modules and so on. When any of my friends are starting to build own house, I consult them how to make it the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

With regard to our customers, the reasons for the choice of energy-saving equipment are standard and pragmatic — most often it is the lack of gas supply in the territory of construction and the reluctance to heat houses with solid or diesel fuel. Usually, we consult people who already have an idea of the energy-saving technologies in heating, although in the early years of our work there were a lot of customers who just had the problem, we told them about the heat pumps, they agreed to try and installed them.

Those who want to start this business, I especially recommend to believe in the idea what you are engaged in. And patience — heat pumps in Russia are not sold as pies near the station. «Green» business is a difficult but exciting road.

Nikita Maltsev:— I believe that economic considerations are decisive when choosing

in favor of energy-saving equipment. Despite the fact that we have quite successfully moved forward with our «green» approach to the climate, the second year we feel the fall in purchasing power. Monetary and political crises very significantly impact on our region. Part of the planned projects are canceled due to the loss of the estimated costs in previously embedded projects. Many people continue to wait for the gasification, because of the fact that the payback time of heat pumps is increased. Therefore, our customer today is a buyer from above the middle class, as well as industrial structures.

Nevertheless, you should take into account that the energy in Russia is slowly but surely becoming more expensive, and more and more people are thinking about long-term planning and cost savings on the maintenance of residential and working areas. These aspects stimulate the development of «green» technologies.

In addition to all of abovementioned, rainwater collection is made in the building for different needs.

Eco-house «Green Palace». New York, USABright Eco-house appeared in 2015 in New York City near the Harlem district. The house is energy-independent, and the small amount of energy that it needs, is generated by solar photovoltaic modules integrated in the glazing system of the southern facade of the building.House does not either require a centralized water supply — water for the needs of the residents comes from storage of rain water, from their own well, and through cleansing and returning to the cycle of water, formed after its use in the building.The most striking innovation of the eco-house is its «green» wall-screen which integrates translucent structures, elements of green roofs, vertical gardening, solar collectors and electric solar panels.

Energy efficient office building Pixel Building.Melbourne, AustraliaEnergy efficient office «Pixel Building» is an example of the use of renewable energy sources. On the roof of the building wind turbines, solar cells and special tanks to collect rainwater are installed. Carbon dioxide emissions are neutralized thanks to the abundance of greenery, planted on special window sills.The project is marked with the highest score in the «green system» LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), and in addition, earned extra points for achieving carbon neutrality.

Restaurant of salt. Shiraz, IranAt all times, table salt is put to food  — it seems us reasonable and natural to use this white crystalline solid. But for the Iranian architectural and construction Company Emtiaz Designing Group salt has become the main material for building of environmentally friendly building of a new generation  — Salt Restaurant, where the walls, tables and even the stairs are made with salt coating. This salt layer does not only give the restaurant identity, but also helps to purify the polluted air of the city.As the architects explained their choice of the building material for the restaurant, the salt is a natural disinfectant, and ions which it produces, also purify and filter the ambient air.

8 9 10World Trade Center, BahrainBuilding of the Bahrain World Trade Center Towers in Bahrain is striking not only for its futuristic appearance and beauty, but also for its environmental friendliness. The center is built in such a way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by exploiting eco-friendly wind turbines, three huge fans installed on the facade. The blades of each one is 29 meters in diameter. «Windmills» are fixed that way to maximize the capture of strong winds blowing from the sea. The basis for the turbine are the bearings of a 30-meter bridge connecting the two towers. Bridge design allows withstanding the enormous weight of the turbines and the vibrations produced by them while working. Giant propellers are capable to produce up to 1100 MW of electricity per year. This is enough to ensure the work of offices and premises in the eco-skyscraper without interruption.

Bank of America Skyscraper, New York, USAThe title of the «greenest» skyscraper in the world belongs to the Bank of America Tower, located in New York City. The building was designed by renowned architect Robert Fox. Bank of America Tower is worth 1,2 billion US dollars, 3 % of the total amount has been given to ensure the sustainability of the building.Huge glass facades of the skyscraper are designed not only to catch the imagination of locals and tourists, but also to reduce energy costs. Windows made of special glass with variable properties provide maximum natural light. On the roof of the building automatic rainwater collectors are installed. The collected water is mixed with the already used and then is cleaned. Another eco-trick of the skyscraper  — air is cleaned not only at the inlet, but also at the outlet of the building. Bicycle parking in front of the building and the lack of the car parking correctly hints at the use eco-transport. The Bank of America Tower deservedly received the LEED platinum certification.

National Institute of Solar Energy. Chambery, FranceBuilding of the Science Centre of the National Institute of Solar Energy of France provides the highest level of energy efficiency: 40 % of the energy needs of the scientific complex is covered by solar energy, which is studied and developed by the people working in it. As a result, lighting, heating and many other technical systems requiring power, get it from solar panels and collectors. The total cost of construction of this complex with the area of 7500 m2 was 20 million Euro, provided by the local and central governments.

Bullitt Center, office building. Seattle, USAWinner of awards for the «greenest» office in the world and the «greenest» building, Bullitt Center combines almost all possible sustainable functions: from composting toilets and rainwater harvesting to special staircase, designed to divert people from the elevator. The six-story building, constructed in 2013, is a house with absolutely zero consumption of resources.

Dragon-house. Granada, SpainOn the hillside not far from Granada an unusual house in the form of a dragon»s head is located. The brainchild of the architects of the GilBartolomé Madrid o�ce caused much controversy in the constructors» environment. The source of inspiration for them was the work of Antoni Gaudí, and therefore, the authors call their building «modern Gaudí cave».A two-story house is embedded in the steep slope of the cli�, there are a spacious living room and 2 bedrooms in it. The building has a double cover with an air pocket of 40 cm wide, which extends around the perimeter of the premises. Here the air is heated by the ground, which has a constant temperature of 19,5 degrees. The heated air in the pocket is used for heating, cooling and ventilation of the building.The roof-facade is made of two concrete covers of 7 cm thick each one. Between them there is a 40 cm layer of insulation. With these construction techniques architects managed to create «a self-su�cient dragon»: throughout the year the building needs no forced heating or ventilation.

From a dream up to realityUnusual «green» buildings — like scenes from science �ction movies. We live in reality where the houses are still constructed of reinforced concrete, bricks, lumber. However, even Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky said: «Fantastic is the essence of reality». Those who understand this, have the ability to turn �ction into reality. In fact, it is not so di�cult, you can make sure, following the chronicle of the energy-e�cient house's construction, which we have been publishing for the second year in our journal «EVAN-news». The house is built and spent its start heating season. It's time to bring the �rst results.

Let's remember once again the main features of the building, the key points of thermal insulation, the heating elements of the system — everything that made this house energy efficient.

Heat insulation• Insulation of the foundation: foamed polystyrene with thickness of

300 mm on the perimeter and two layers of waterproofing material.• Insulation of the foundation grill: foam glass sheets 70x300 mm

on the perimeter, the foundation grill itself is insulated with foamed polystyrene with thickness of 350 mm.

• Insulation of the blind area: 50 mm of foamed polystyrene.• Wall insulation: foamed polystyrene with thickness of 300 mm,

which is mounted on the «wet facade» technology with finish of the German clinker tiles.

• Insulation of ceiling: layer of rock wool — 500 mm, pediment is based on the thermal insert of the foam glass with thickness of 150 mm.

Main features of the building and supporting structures:

• total area — 200 m²• number of floors — 2• foundation — piled• walls — red brick• roof — pitched with a cold attic

«Thermal bypasses» — this is the weak link, which should be excluded in the construction of any house, especially of the energy efficient one. Therefore, all interface nodes of elements are well insulated. It is primarily concerned the joints of the blind area to the foundation and walls, as well as the connection lines of the walls and the roof, where with the competent insulation unbreakable thermal circuit is formed.

WindowsWindows systems are installed in water-resistant plywood

boxes with the removal of 150 mm in the area of thermal insulation, which makes the correct thermos-technical design. For the glazing 2-pane glass with energy-efficient profile and special glasses is selected. Outside multifunctional blade, depending on the angle of the sunlight incidence, «defines» season. In winter it passes heat into the room, and in summer, on the contrary, blocks the heat penetration. Moreover, reflecting properties of surfaces inside the glass are used in order not to blow heat outside.

SCHEDULE OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION

Results of the first heating seasonLaunching of the heating system in the new hose took place on

October 28 last year. 8 months' schedule shows the actual figures on the costs for heating, hot water and heat recovery. July — October: extrapolation is based on the comparison of average monthly temperature data. The figures show a clear relationship between the temperature outside and the consumption of electricity. For example, the peak flow rate was in January — the coldest considered month. The exception was in April, where despite the higher temperature than in March, consumption was also higher. The explanation for this strange phenomenon is

absolutely ordinary: due to a problem with the electric mains and phase failure, heat pump has been working in the mode of heating element for two weeks.

As it can be seen from the graph, starting from May, when there is no more need for heating, energy consumption is stabilized at the level of 280 kWh per month, including about 150 kWh — for hot water consumption, and the rest — to maintain system efficiency (work of circulation pump, heat pump motor, heat exchanger).

Thus, the forecasted annual power consumption of the system will be 6450 kWh and except DHW — 4650 kWh, that is 23,35 kWh per year per square meter.

Let's remember that the energy consumption in Russia in the houses is on average 400 – 600 kWh / year per square meter. In Europe, since 2002, it's allowed to construct houses according to the standard of «low energy consumption house» — not more than 60 kWh / m² per year. European Passive House Standard — 15 kWh / m² per year.

Formally, our project stopped well short of to the European standard of passive houses, though it demonstrated energy efficiency much better than it's common for Russia. The owner believes that it

is impossible to make a definitive conclusion during the first season when there were adjusting and fixing of the heating system, and in the next year the house will show better results. By the way, the same is shown in foreign experience. For instance, the first real project of the Passive House concept in Darmstadt stabilized its energy consumption only during the 3rd year of operation.

In conclusion, finishing this successful project we want to wish our readers not to be afraid to build the fantastic plans. And then the house of your dreams becomes a reality!

According to the theory of the «Ecological footprint» of the American ecologist William Rees, «if everyone on the planet wants to live like the average Russian inhabitant, then humanity will need 2,5 of the planet to meet all needs of such population. If each inhabitant of the Earth has a desire to achieve the level of the average person in the United States, then 3,3 of the Planet».

It is obvious that discussions about global climate changes could take more than one and even ten pages of our magazine. However, even without this, we all need to understand that the transition of the mankind from mass consumption to meaningful one — is our only chance to save the planet for future generations. To develop a new system of people values based on the reinterpretation of the relationship between man and the environment — the global goal set by the organizers of the festival.

The eco-village «Yasno Pole» in the Tula region was the most suitable for such event — clean air in contrast to the metropolis, as well as picturesque nature have become an excellent background for the rich program of the festival. Totally, the festival was attended by about 500 people, according to the organizers it is a good indicator within such narrow (we hope only at present time) sphere. «Eco_tectonic» was supported by all major specialized professional associations, public authorities, as well as international organizations such as the UN Environment Program (UNEP), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The educational part of the festival program was started with lectures on the most important environmental problems and methods of solving them, which

naturally brought the program to the presentation on the question of green building, including the speech by the Director of the Institute of passive house Alexander Yelokhov. During his lecture, he talked about the importance to increase the energy efficiency of buildings under construction, on the benefits of passive construction and the first houses of ultra-low power consumption, gradually fading in Russia. By the way, we have been talking about one of them in a series of articles, the latest one — in this issue of «EVAN-news».

In addition to the educational part, the fair of eco-products worked at the territory of the festival as well as the exhibition of green technologies where our company showed a ground-source heat pump NIBE — a representative of energy-efficient climate technology. The most unusual thing that our stand was also presented as one of the stages of the educational quest «Human impact», where participants had to solve the environmental tasks from our employees. All visitors of our stand coped perfectly with the tasks!

We have told many times about the advantages of energy-e�cient appliances. More than �ve years the «EVAN» company promotes eco-friendly technology for heating. The issue of our «green» magazine coincided with the market release of a new air / water heat pump NIBE F2120, which brought together the best features of its predecessors. To �nd out the advantages of a new device and with what it should be combined to achieve the most e�cient system, please, read in our article.

Power of synergy

Where does the wind blow from?Seven years of development work and two generations of air

heat pumps stand behind the NIBE F2120. The new «air pump» is a hybrid of F2300 and F2040 models, which absorbed their advantages and enhanced new features.

From F2300 pump, designed to operate in harsh environments, the newcomer has got a highly efficient scroll compressor that operates at ambient temperatures up to –25 °C, and EVI* technology used in the compressor, which improves its performance both in hot and cold weather.

From F2040 pump the opportunity of effective air conditioning in summer has been taken, as well as the inverter, providing an optimal and efficient operation of the motor, compressor and the pump itself on the whole.

Energy efficiency breakthroughThe new model of the heat pump has become a real

breakthrough in energy efficiency. NIBE engineers managed to achieve the best possible result — SCOP* coefficient of the device reaches 5.0. In other words, on average, for the year the heat pump produces 5 times more heat energy than spends electricity for its work. Moreover, F2120 was able to defeat the «air pumps» disease» of previous generations: pump ensures coolant temperature of 63 – 65 °C and does not reduce it, even if the outside temperature dropped to –25 °C (minimum operating value of the outdoor temperature). It is obvious that the payback period of the pump is reduced significantly due to such parameters.

*EVI (Enchanced Vapour Injection) — the technology of «extended injection priming» — is actually an additional compressor port that receives a portion of the vapor-liquid refrigerant through additional valves directly into the compression chamber. EVI technology, at low

temperatures when the system works for heating, allows to achieve constant heat output and high energy efficiency ratio. Another distinctive feature of EVI compressors is fully modernized algorithm of the outdoor heat exchanger defrosting, in which management system analyzes the outside temperature, as well as the overall efficiency of heat transfer and the amount of refrigerant in the system, depending on the outside temperature.

AVERAGE SESONAL COEFFICIENT SCOP* OF THE HEAT PUMP F2120 REACHES 5.0 — REAL BREAKTHROUGH IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY

*SCOP coefficient (Season Coefficient of Performance) — is a seasonal energy efficiency ratio of a climate unit in heating mode. For its calculation the amount of heat generated by the device in one season is determined, after which this number is divided into the electricity consumed during the same period. For more accurate accounting of the outdoor temperature according to the energy efficiency, SCOP coefficient is calculated separately for different climate zones. In the case of air / water heat pump NIBE F2120 SCOP is set for cold climate zones of Europe — the climate of Helsinki, Finland (calculated temperature is –26 °C, which roughly corresponds to the climatic conditions of the Central Federal District of Russia: — 26 °C in Bryansk, — 28 °C in Moscow).

Air / water heat pump NIBE F2120 is produced in four versions with capacity of 8, 12, 16 and 20 kW. Designed specifically for the use in cold climates, the pump is suitable for heating and cooling of residential and commercial buildings in central Russia. The minimum outside air temperature, possible for the efficient operation of the device is –25 °C, for use in harsher climates the installation of a backup heater is reasonable.

Perfect systemIt happened that NIBE, producing heating equipment,

think through all the details. The «EVAN» partners for energy-saving products often positive note the fact that, in addition to modern high-quality machines, the company offers a wide range of system solutions thanks to a large range of related products and accessories.

The heat pump NIBE F2120, like any other «air pump», is set on the street and, therefore, requires a control unit inside the building. This pump is a classic case of work in tandem with the NIBE SMO 40 controller.

The controller SMO 40 — is a climate control module that can simultaneously control up to 8 pumps providing heating management, air-conditioning and hot water heating.

For additional power savings the module controls system units concerning the outside temperature. The controller is absolutely silent, easy to setup and management (internal «reference» and multi-language support, including the possibility to select the Russian language), has an attractive design and can be installed in any room. In engineering solutions with the use of the SMO 40 controller, system components, such as water heaters or additional heating sources are selected specifically for the actual installation.

All inclusiveWork of the «air pump» under the SMO control is not the

only option. Even more interesting solution is a combination of the air / water heat pump NIBE F2120 with one of the internal modules VVM, for example VVM 500.

NIBE VVM 500 is a flexible internal module «all-in-one» for heating and hot water. List of items that are included with this smart tank (from the English «smart» — clever), is truly impressive: built-in backup source of heat — electric boiler, hot water coil, circulation pump, expansion tank, solar coil and convenient management system. Internal module is connected to the air / water outdoor unit and the heat distribution system of the building. It can be also used to connect to a variety of products and accessories, for example solar collector or other external heat source, an additional water heater, swimming pool, as well as climate control systems. By the way, the controller, which is included in the VVM packaging, is not worse than the above-mentioned advanced SMO controller, and provides a comfortable, economical and safe operation of the entire system.

The combination of the heat pump and «smart tank» VVM 500 is a complete engineering system — the real happiness for the installer. With this set of devices, it is nothing to invent and to do any piping — roughly speaking, it is only necessary to connect two pipes — and the system is ready. VVM 500 tank — is also heat accumulator, and «indirect water heater», and the electric boiler, but with the final piping and beautiful body with a colorful display.

Unlike its predecessors, NIBE F2120 is produced both in single-phase and three-phase version that allows not to make any changes in the existing power networks when connecting the pump. — It is obvious that such an advanced all-inclusive device will cost a lot of money. It is possible, of course, to replace it with an indirect water heater or a heat accumulator, but then it is additionally necessary to connect the controller, circulation pump, three-way valve, piping, and do not forget about the cost of serious installation works… The amount of the final specification will be slightly more favorable than the purchase costs for the pump and the indoor unit. Moreover, the Swedish factory piping is a guarantee of reliability and a long service life.

Opt for NIBE«We choose, we are being chosen, but sometimes it does not match each other…» And mutuality is so desirable! Therefore, our today's story is about a happy mutually bene�cial choice. About the choice of the Russian state-owned company JSC «Russian Railways» and NIBE international corporation whose heat pumps, as a part of a complex program «The introduction of resource-saving technical equipment and technologies in railway transport», are installed at various railway stations of the Russian Railways.

Looking at the building of a small cute provincial station named Rzhava, which is located in the village of Pristen of the Kursk region, in the head soon comes the idea of the Russian stove, rather than of the high-tech equipment. Yes, that's almost the way as it was until recent times. Facilities of the station were heated with a coal-fired boiler. However, in January 2015, a project of heat pumps' installation was started.

There were many backgrounds for the coal-fired boiler replacing: the need to replace obsolete and worn-out equipment, the desire to fully automate the work of the boiler, environmental factors, and, of course, reduced maintenance costs.

In two months our partner — «Center of heat pumps» (LLC «Energeo»), who fulfilled more than 15 projects in Oktyabryskaya,

Moscow, Gorki, Volga, Kaliningrad and South Eastern Railway, carried out predesign inspection of the facilities, developed and agreed design estimate documentation.

Heat pumps, offered to the customer for the modernization of the heating system, were the most suitable for the task — short installation period, minimum of coordination, automatic operation.

Modernization of the heating system was carried out in four separate buildings, previously heated by coal-fired boiler, installed in one of the buildings. The heat from the boiler was passed in the other three buildings through the underground heating line.

The existing heating system was dismantled in all facilities and a new system was installed in accordance with the new developed projects, taking into account the specifics of the temperature profile and the conditions of buildings.

The main equipment of the new boiler room is «air-water» heat pump NIBE F2300–20. Totally, 11 heat pumps were installed.

As the peak terminal unit and backup heat source eight electric boilers of EVAN were selected and installed.

Heat pumps NIBE F2300–20 were installed on the prepared concrete foundation with drainage pipe laid. To curb an unauthorized access to the equipment installation, the location of heat pumps is fenced with modular wall with a gate. From downfall and ice falling from the roof, heat pumps are protected with a shelter. Pipelines of heat pumps in the boiler rooms are insulated with several layers of pipe insulation made of polyethylene foam and folgoplast. For protection against mechanical damage pipelines have protected boxes of profiled sheeting. The required amount of electricity is ensured with the

mounted transformer substation of 10 / 0,4 – 400 kVA. Internal power supply of the boiler room is provided with the ASU cabinets (input switching) and power control box (power). To protect the heat pump from poor power supply, the power box is equipped with a power control relay RNPP-302. Power supply of NIBE SMO-40 control panels comes through the regulator.

Each object has mounted system with the local supervisory control, that collects data on equipment operation, temperatures of supply and return pipes, pressure of the heating medium in the heating system, power quality and equipment failures. It is planned to create the Central control station on the basis of management on maintenance of buildings and facilities of the Belgorod road distance where will be collected all the information about the operating parameters with various objects, including the boiler rooms with heat pumps of the Rzhava station.

Construction, installation and commissioning works at the facilities of the Rzhava station were completed in November 2015, so the heating season was already passed in the new conditions and the customer was able to evaluate the results:primarily the convenience of fully automated heating control. «The net savings from the implementation of the project is 2,6 million rub., — said Alexander Zubenko, chief engineer of the Belgorod road distance's civil constructions of South Eastern Railways. — We have gone from environmental activities. In addition, the heating unit is operating in automatic mode, which has a positive effect on productivity».

To fully enjoy all the advantages of energy-saving technologies and to calculate savings was possible in Kaliningrad Railways, where the installation of NIBE heat pumps began in 2013 and continues till now.

The westernmost one — the «greenest» oneThe Kaliningrad railway can be safely called the powerhouse

of energy saving technologies of the Russian Railways. Here since 2013 the «Integrated program for heat pumps' implementing» is being fulfilled, within the program traditional energy sources are being changed to alternative ones. In two years (2013 – 2015) 14 coal-fired boiler rooms were changed into energy-saving equipment, and a large part of it — NIBE heat pumps: more than twenty pumps at 9 sites. The project is implemented by our partners — companies «Energeo» (St. Petersburg) and «Geoterm Baltika» (Kaliningrad).

«We have a complex program of using RES (renewable energy sources) in the Kaliningrad railway — said the chief engineer of JSC «Russian Railways» Valentin Gapanovich. —

This is the coast of the Baltic Sea, the resort area, so there we closed 14 coal-fired boiler rooms and changed them not even to gas, but to heat pumps — a mild climate allows. And last year the Zelenogradsk Station even won the first prize of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia for the best complete solution for the use of renewable energy. All heating of the station is based on the RES. We put photovoltaic panels to generate electricity, solar collectors for water heating, storage tanks for accumulation daily coolant from 6 cubic meters, heat pumps. During the afternoon heat is accumulated in tanks, and at night the heat from the battery tanks is served in the heating system. We don't even take electricity for heat pumps from the networks on sunny days — it is enough from the solar panels. In summer, the same system is operating in cooling».

Expand the standardElectricity is a standard, very familiar and very common heat source. Unfortunately, it is impossible yet to say that the power generation is safe for our planet, because most of the electricity is still produced by power plants with burning of oil, gas and fuel. Moderate optimism is gradually increased with the share of alternative generations, the development of wind and solar power. We hope for their future. But at present, it can be stated with con�dence that heating with electricity is one of the most environmentally friendly source. Therefore, we produce electric boilers.

Change of technologies2016 — the year of the updated product line of EVAN

electric boilers. We have already started sales of new boilers in the class of «Comfort» (EVAN UNIVERSAL), in the class of «Lux» (EVAN EXPERT). It is time for the «Standard».

EVAN C2 boiler, replacing the C1, is being prepared for the production on the new production line of «EVAN». Right now, in the height of summer, the profound changes are taking place in the company — a new production facility is started, which will bring together all production sites, previously disparate geographically, into a single complex. Modernization of machinery equipment is continuing, and we'll introduce the new «EVAN» plant to our readers in the next issue of our magazine.The «Firstborn» of the new production will be EVAN C2. The new boiler will maintain the functionality of its predecessor. The power range will be also saved: from 3 to 30 kW. However, the device will have a new look and layout of the interior. Improved design will allow to reduce the self-cost, but — without compromising quality. EVAN C2 will be equipped with high-quality blocks of Backer heating elements, SCHNEIDER contactors and thermostats manufactured in Europe.

Younger brotherSimultaneously with the launch of the new EVAN C2

production of another unit of the «Standard» class — EVAN C3 — is started. This boiler will be made in three of the most popular capacities — 3; 5 and 8 kW, which is enough to heat poorly insulated 25 square meters as well as energy-efficient houses with floor space of 100 square meters or more.

The key difference between the device and his brother and predecessor: EVAN C3 has seven steps! Although the choice of steps is performed manually, the instrument panel comprises tips with the best steps to maintain the given temperature of the coolant.

After selecting the desired flow temperature by adjusting the handle, you should consider the position of the pointer on it with respect to the symbols of the dial scale. The symbols, nearest to the index, indicate the desired state (on / off) of each of the three switches located above the thermostat. With the help of these switches a corresponding set of heating elements is turned on and heating power level is implemented, the maximum corresponding to the uncompensated heat losses of the room.

EVAN C3 TRULY EXPANDS THE LIMITS OF THE STANDARD CLASS. SEVEN POWER STEPS, AUTOMATIC CIRCUIT BREAKERS, INSULATION OF THE BOILER BODY – ONE STEP RESTS TO THE COMFORT CLASS.

Now almost all EVAN electric boilers, including boilers of the «Standard» class EVAN C2 and EVAN C3 can be controlled based on the outdoor temperature, according to the weather-dependent algorithm. This opportunity is provided with the remote control unit GSM / WiFi Climate.

As it is well known, the management of the boiler, taking into account the outdoor temperature, allows to automatically regulate in advance the flow temperature when changing climate conditions, to avoid overheating, to reduce the number of turning on / off of the device. In general, the weather-dependent control increases the efficiency of the heating system and saves its life period.

The algorithm implemented in the remote control units, requires selecting a temperature curve corresponding to the heat losses of a particular object. Selection of the desired curve is carried out empirically based on carried out tests. It is important to remember that the house has large thermal inertia, and the selection may be determined not earlier than after one day. If the house is «subcooled», you must select a steeper curve; «overheated», on the contrary —

more flat curve. All the curves are set for the target indoor temperature of + 20 °C. If you need a different temperature, the selected curve should be moved.

In practice, the adjustments based on the temperature curve only are not enough, since in this case different nuances are not considered — for example, solar heating of the room, excessive heat from a large number of people. Therefore, weather-equipment, implemented in modules, is more complicated: a curve is selected so that it is accurately enough to warm the room, that is, with a reserve on the desired temperature. Further, when the room temperature is close to a predetermined one, normal operation takes algorithm to maintain the room temperature. The maintenance work for the room temperature is based on switching on and off the heating, so that the maximum coolant temperature does not exceed the calculated one from the temperature curve.

Heating control function with weather-dependent automatic is available for modules with software version PO 122:74 and higher.

one power stage is enough (i.e., it is necessary to turn on the first switch), for the temperature of 35 °C the second stage is required, indicating the activation of the second switch, and so on. The switching of the 4 – 6th stages is provided by various combinations of switches. Finally, to ensure maximum coolant temperature, it is necessary to turn on all three switches, in this case, the boiler will run at full capacity.

With such heating process the temperature of the coolant in the system and the air in the room is maintained at a constant level, the most comfortable, energy losses due to unreasonable overheating will be minimal, and the number of switching on / off cycles, which determines life period of the device, will be minimal.

Another advantage of the new boiler: EVAN C3 is equipped with a safety circuit breaker for protection against short-circuit currents. In addition to the basic protective function it provides the convenience and reliability of power connections — cable is connected directly to the automatic cutout, not to the terminal block. In addition, the ability to de-energize the device directly into the automatic cutout facilitates the adjustment and repair of the product «on site».

The versatility of the new boiler is implemented to connect it to one and three-phase networks (220 / 380 V). By default, the device is made in the three-phase version. The transformation of the product in a single phase device is achieved by installing a shorting plug on the input of the 4-poled breaker.

Low noise level of the device is ensured by the use of power relays as the main working body instead of the electromagnetic contactor, and reduced number of multiple switches. The alarm contactor provides more safety and is triggered only in emergency situations (for example, failure of the relay), providing full disconnection of heating. The increased efficiency is provided by the insulation of the device body.

Like its predecessors, the boiler EVAN C3 is equipped with a block for connection of the GSM / WiFi Climate Module. However, unlike most of its brothers, the current device has an additional opportunity — to send a fault signal through the modules of remote control (tripping of the circuit breaker or thermal switch).

Ferritic steel,comb copper

The indirect water heaters are again in the highlight. This time, the premium segment models — devices made by the Finnish plant Kaukora of the NIBE Group. Ask any manager from the «EVAN» sales department why these water heaters are good, everyone will answer: tank of ferritic steel, coil of comb copper, polyurethane insulation. Let us understand what these magical words promise to the customer.

Where to heatThe main and the most important part of the heater — the

tank where water is heated. Actually, a life period of the tank determines the service life of the heater. Hot discussions are conducted on the Internet fields: what is better — enamel or stainless steel? Indeed, today many manufacturers produce enameled tanks with a very high quality of the coating. For example, NIBE Mega, Spiro and Quattro heaters has such enamel. Additional protection against corrosion in the enameled tanks is a magnesium anode.

But, in any measure, stainless steel is more resistant to impacts, including aggressive ones. Besides this, steel doesn't have such fault of enamel as cracking, which may occur after a large number of heating cycles. VLM water heaters' tanks are made of ferritic stainless steel of the EN1.4521 brand. Ferritic stainless steels have high resistance to aggressive environment, including acid solutions. They are used for the manufacturing of products working in oxidizing environments (such as in nitric acid's solutions), for household appliances, food and light industry, and for the heat exchange equipment in the power plant engineering. Modern ferritic steel

EN1.4521 of the European quality standard has a high content of chromium (18 % or more), molybdenum (2 %), and has a dual stabilization with titanium and niobium. This steel has excellent acid resistance characteristics at high temperatures. The niobium and titanium additives improve the quality of welding which the stainless steel's opponents consider the weakest point.

What to heat withIf in the classical storage water heater heating is made

with a heating element — clear and known for everybody since the time of the first boilers, the coil performs this function in the indirect water heaters. The coil is a heat exchanger, which presents a pipe, helically twisted and usually consisting of few turns. In the coil, which is located inside the tank, the coolant circulates, transferring heat to the surrounding household water.

If the characteristics of heating elements are more or less clear (there is a nominal power, by which we can calculate the time of the water heating in the tank), it is not so easy to select the correct coil.

The power of the indirect heating coil is dependent on a number of factors. The first one is its area — external, in contact with the household water, as well as internal, in contact with the coolant. Secondly, the thermal conductivity of the material. Both of these parameters are directly proportional to the power, the larger the area and the thermal conductivity, the higher the capacity. It is therefore the coil often occupies a substantial part of the tank, so it ensures the surface area required to provide the necessary power.

Obviously, this approach is not always optimal — by increasing the coil size the useful volume of the tank decreases, i.e. the volume of heated water. Therefore, the designers of the Kaukora plant went another way.

For coils of VLM KS water heaters comb copper is used. «Comb» provides an almost fourfold increase in the outer surface area of the coil in comparison with a smooth coil of the same length, which directly affects its capacity. As a result, the comb copper coil has a much greater capacity than the coil of smooth copper of the same length. Another important point — the material itself, copper has a very high thermal conductivity — 384 W / m•K. For comparison, the thermal conductivity of steel is 47 W / m•K. Moreover, copper has a whole list of additional advantages such as resistance, durability, bactericidal power, environmental friendliness.

If the area and thermal conductivity for each coil are constant, then there is a number of parameters, which are constantly changing, and the power is also changed with them.

In the first turn, this applies to temperatures. At the beginning of the heating, when water in the tank is cold, the temperature difference between incoming coolant and the temperature of the water in the tank is large, the coil has the highest power, i. e. at this moment the heat transfer is the most active. As water in the tank is being heated, the temperature's delta decreases — the capacity is decreased. There is a temperature increase in the return line. It is clear — at first, coolant gave a lot of energy and cooled, then its possibility of heat transfer was reduced, so it returns warmer.

The graph of tests for the VLM 200 KS water heater, shown in pic. 1, demonstrates most clearly all abovementioned. The temperature of the incoming coolant is constant — 80 °C. The water is heated in the tank also up to 80 °C.

In 2016, by request of JSC «EVAN», a comparative test of six models of indirect water heaters from various manufacturers was conducted. The tests were conducted in order to obtain objective data on the parameters of the equipment.

The attentive reader must have noticed that these measurements are shown with another fixed value: constant heating medium flow — 0,22 l / sec. This is another parameter which the power of the coil essentially depends on. The higher the flow rate, the more heat the coolant can pass at a time. This is clear when comparing

the two graphs: the first one at a flow rate of 0,22 l / s (pic. 1), the second one — 0,5 l / s (pic. 2). Maximum power that a coil shows in the first case is about 40 kW, in the second case the power is 67 kW. So, in the second case, the water in the tank is heated up faster — this is also evident from the graphs.

However, the flow rate should have reasonable limits. Each material has its limit, after which a further increase in speed is pointless — the material does not have time to transfer heat. For copper this limit is higher than that for steel as its thermal conductivity is higher. In addition, the flow rate is limited by

regulations. Thus, according to SNIP 41-01-2003 «HEATING, VENTILATION AND CONDITIONING» the permissible constant speed of water flow in the pipes must not exceed 1,5 meters per second, or in liters for the VLM KS coil with inner diameter of 20 mm — 0,471 l / sec.

COMPARING THE POWER PARAMETERS OF BOILERS FROM DIFFERENT MANUFACTURES, NOTE THE CONDITIONS THE PARAMETERS SRE MEASURED IN. POWER OF THE INDIRECT WATER HEATER VARIES DEPENDING ON THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE, WATER TEMPERATURE IN THE TANK AND THE COOLANT FLOW SPEED. FLOW RATE MUST NOT EXCEED 1,5 M / SEC. The exception to the rule — sometimes a new rule. The family of VLM water heater has a model where the coil is made of not comb copper but of comb stainless steel — VLM KS STAR. How so? Contradiction? Exception? No, this is perceived need. This heater model is designed to be used with a heat pump, i.e. with a low temperature heat source. Maximum temperature of the coolant in the heat pump heating system is not more than 65 °C, i.e. delta of the coolant temperature and water temperature in the tank is small. To make the heat transfer effective, the flow channel should be bigger, and such material as steel can provide it. In the steel coil walls are thinner than in copper coils, so, the cross section and the flow volume are greater, and a comb of coil is substantially longer. But the coil for solar panels connection (VLM KS Star additional option) — of copper again.

Storage or instantaneous?Another feature of indirect water heater is that it combines

the capacities of storage and instantaneous water heaters. On the one hand, it is, of course, instantaneous water heater, which has a coil instead of electric element. Like an electric storage water heater, indirect water heater has a large tank for water and its volume is the main criterion for selection: the larger the need for hot water, the bigger the boiler volume is necessary.

According to the test results output of forty-degree water with VLM 220 KS is 335 liters (temperature in the tank is 65 °C) and 433 liters (temperature in the tank is 80 °C).

Since, in contrast to the heating element, the coil has usually much higher power, it can work, under certain conditions, like instantaneous water heater.

VLM 220 KS has excellent conditions for it! The graph in pic. 3 will illustrate it.

After full tank charging (water heating up to 80 °C), the hot water flow starts at the rate of 12 liters per minute. Simultaneously with the flow of hot water, cold water runs and the temperature in the tank is reduced. When the temperature falls of up to 70 °C, the charging starts. At 43 °C the temperature is stabilized in the tank. Moreover, the temperature in the tank continues to stay at this level even with the flow increasing up to 16 liters per minute. And what does 16 l / min. of

water at a temperature of 43 °C mean? These are two simultaneously operating showers. That is, the water heater VLM 220 KS can provide water heating in instantaneous mode in two simultaneously operating points of water supply with the consumption at each one, comparing to a standard shower consumption. An instantaneous heating mode means that with a given level of consumption the moment, when the hot water is over, will never come.

How to save heatSaving heat is a very important ability for boilers. If water supply

is not permanent (and it most often happens), when a good owner heats water at the night rate, and uses it in the afternoon, as well as in many other cases, it is necessary to maintain the heated water during the maximum possible time.

The water heaters, manufactured at Kaukora plant, have closed-

cell polyurethane foam as insulation. As it is known, the air is a good insulator. In the high-quality insulation air (gas) does not circulate and is not changed. The insulation of polyurethane consists of gastight closed bubbles where special gas is stored in an enclosed space.

pic. 4 shows the characteristics of different thermal insulating materials — the polyurethane with closed cells has the best (lowest) thermal conductivity.

A graph in pic. 5 shows how insulation influences the operation of the water heater. It can be seen that in the absence of water flow in the tank and water charging, it cools the entire 10 °C (from 65 to 55 °C) for 43 hours, the equivalent to the energy loss will be 67 W / h.

Significant detailsModels of VLM KS water heaters with EM index are

equipped with complete valve group and electric element, VLM KS STAR models have similar additional equipment, and in the basic models of VLM KS such equipment can be installed on request.

The valve group includes a return (shut-off) valve, safety valve for 10 bar and thermal mixing valve. The return valve prevents back flow, safety — protects against overpressure, mixing — provides a mix with cold water to get the water of desired temperature at the outlet. Furthermore, by using the valve group DHW recirculation circuit can be arranged.

Heating elements, which VLM water heaters are equipped with, are made of a special chrome-nickel stainless steel containing molybdenum, copper and titanium (Incoloy alloy 825). This alloy has high resistance to all kinds of corrosion, excellent mechanical strength over a wide temperature range. The standardized flange mounting is used to set the heating element. Power range of heating elements — 2; 3; 4,5; 6 and 7,5 kW. At the same time, any number of incoloy heating elements can be installed by the order.

LUX plus VIP — also a class!The electric boiler EVAN EXPERT of a «LUX» class, released

on the market in 2016, has many features, one of which — the management over indirect water heaters. VLM KS — the water heater of a VIP class — the most suitable as the object for control.

The boiler is provided with connection block of three-way valve for DHW, and with connection block for indirect water heater thermostat. The thermostat sets the desired water temperature in the water tank. If the set temperature drops below, the thermostat provides a signal to the boiler block, the

boiler closes the three-way valve block and begins to work on the DHW priority, that means, to heat the water to a predetermined temperature.

When switching to the DHW operating mode, EXPERT automatically switches the maximum number of power stages (if the user has installed power limit — the maximum permissible number of stages), and sets the maximum coolant temperature (85 °C). After heating the water, the boiler will automatically return to the operating mode in which it worked before switching to the DHW circuit.

…XYZ …American scientists Neil Howe and William Strauss created the

theory of generations in 1991. This theory was adopted to Russia in 2003 – 2004 by a team led by Eugenia Shamis — Rugenerations project coordinator. According to this theory representatives of the following generation now live in Russia:

• generation GI (1900 – 1923 year of birth);• «silent» generation (1923 – 1943 year of birth);• generation of «baby-boomers» (1943 – 1963 year of birth);• generation X (1963 – 1984 year of birth);• generation Y or Millennium (1984 – 2000 year of birth);• generation Z (since 2000 year of birth).

In the light of the theory of generations, notorious conflict between fathers and children is based not only on the age difference, but on the difference in basic values of generations that are being formed till the age of ten years under the influence of the current political and economic situation.

Our customers are people of different ages and generations, but if we focus on the statistics of the results of surveys in retail shops and on the web site, their average age is 30 – 35 years. This is generation X, but also a little of generation Y, or rather the so-called «echo generation» or «border liners». It is necessary to understand that a clear distinction is not possible, people, born at the junction of generations (plus or minus three years), have features of both generations.

With non-stop access to the information on the web and actively using social media, they don't trust direct advertising. For previous generations the famous brand of the company, known since childhood, was remembered for a lifetime and became a symbol of reliability and quality. Millennium people are much more cynical to brands, they are not interested in their ancient history, they assess only what they can get here and now. In addition, they do not renounce the authority, and they don't need the car like «a rich neighbor» has.

Yes, they have different values, but moreover, the «Y's» radically differently correlate with the digital reality. In 2001 American author and expert on modern educational systems Marc Prensky in his work «On the Horizon» proposed a new division of the world into Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants. Few people understood him that time. It is only now becoming clear that Prensky meant — multimedia can be acquired or inborn.

In contrast to the predecessors, the «X's» prefer individual sports, praise highly their time, and therefore, they are active users of semi-finished products and fast food.

predecessors — the «baby boomers». However, the first generation which significantly altered traditional marketing approaches, was the generation Y.

The generation Y can be considered as immigrants, but their immigration has occurred at an early age, so they are completely assimilated into the new digital environment. Those who have in conscious age decided on a radical change of residence, adapt to the new reality in the best or the worst degree. Someone succeeds and even climbs the local hierarchy, but someone isn't going to do that, living in their own enclave. But without the Russian salad and the «Irony of Fate» for any of those who moved, New Year is not a holiday! One can learn a foreign language perfectly, but it will never become a native language. That's why generations of Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants will never speak the same language.

*Any classification has its own «but». When we talk about the division of generations on the basis of the relationship with the digital environment, we can't forget about the existence of the digital inequality. In Russia, it is shown with the contrast between center and periphery.

doubt, quite conservative. But to change the course of time and generations is not possible.
