Hello Parkrose!

It’s been a year full of exciting events for the Parkrose Business Association!

We recently hosted our annual Holiday Party in an ef-fort to raise money for the Parkrose Business Founda-tion’s scholarship fund. Held at the Holiday Inn, many businesses braved the winter weather to donate in our silent auction, enjoy an array of desserts, and honor those who have made an exceptionally large effort to improve the Parkrose community. November Highlights

We began our November luncheon meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and then enjoyed the wonder-ful buffet lunch the Holiday Inn prepares for us each month.

William and Marsha man the desk and welcome Gordon Boorse, Compaction And Recycling.

Angie and Kate make it through the buffet line with big smiles.

Calvin Hoff counted the ballots and reported that Naomi Coultas, Burger-ville, and Wayne H. Stoll, Argay Square were unanimously elected to a three year term on the PBA Board of Directors.

Wayne H. Stoll, Argay Square, generously donated his 50/50 winnings to the PBA/PBF Scholarship fund. PBA Treasurer, CPA William Keller, says. . .

“Thank you VERY much!”

The buffet was delicious. The Dessert Dash was very suc-cessful. The Wall of Wine is always a hit, and of course, guessing the number of Jelly

Beans in the Jar. All the money raised is for schol-arships.

As always the fellowship and networking were a lot of fun as everyone engaged in the festivities.

LKARL F.IND

AWARD

Kristin T. TrevinoSIGNS NOW NORTHWEST

Parkrose Business Association is very proud to announce that Kristin Trevino is this year’s Karl F. Lind Award winner. Kristin is one of the happiest people in Parkrose. She always has a wonderful smile for everyone that she meets. She does so much for PBA and our entire community. One very early morning at our PBA Board meeting we were talking about the need for someone to work on our social me-dia. Without hesitation Kristin, stepped up. Our PBA Facebook posts are now filled with pictures and information about our upcoming events. Then we needed a chairperson to lead the Trunk or Treat committee. Again, Kristin stepped right up. She led a small but mighty group of committee members. She led by example by focusing at our very early morning meetings to shape the 2016 “Trunk or Treat” event resulting in a huge success. Through her leadership we were able to have over 45 businesses participate with four businesses sponsoring the cos-tume contest. This was a huge success that attracted over 1000 children and their families to participate in the Second Annual “Trunk or Treat” event. Those families not only received candy and coupons they learned about their Parkrose Businesses! Kristin is a talented designer and can make your business a wonderful sign or banner to advertise in our community. Kristin has generously donated her talent and products to many of our PBA projects. Perhaps you saw pumpkin colored signs around in October announcing our Trunk or Treat Event. Kristin is an avid adventurer and when not working hard at Signs Now or PBA she is most likely traveling, skiing or hiking. Many of you may have benefited from her abundant Tre’vino’s Greenhouse and Garden. She grows many wonder-ful vegetables, sunflowers and roses in her backyard. Did you know that she cans and gives away delicious homemade sauces and salsas.

Another volunteer project that she generously gives to is “Dress for Success”, a nonprofit that provides professional outfits for women re-entering the work force. Kristin’s enthusiastic and

warm personality makes her the kind of per-son that makes Parkrose Business Associa-tion a terrific business organization!

OFFICER JASON JONES

Portland Police Bureau

The Artie Johnson Award Committee is made up of previous active Artie Johnson Award Recipients. These people know what it takes to emulate the efforts and activities of Artie Johnson on behalf of the greater Parkrose community. Artie was a large presence in the Park-rose community, quietly working and volunteering for many, many years to improve the Parkrose area. Typically an email goes out to all of the active previous Artie John-son award recipients, asking them for nominations for the current award without any names being proposed in advance. Most of the time one name will be nominated several times, often by a major-ity of the responders. Done deal, that is the recipient. This year is a little different. In early October the name of Officer Jason Jones was suggested by one individual. That was an excellent suggestion, outside of the box. So the email went out with that name attached and the response was unanimous. Everyone agreed that Jason was an admirable choice for this prestigious award. Jason has worked for years in the Parkrose area, providing protec-tion to our persons and properties. He quietly goes about his job and this is one time we can say that we really do not want to see him on a professional basis. The view from his back seat is not very welcome! Jason has volunteered for community events on his personal time, giving back to our community where he so ably serves. He teaches at the local collegiate level so he knows of what he speaks. Jason has been our featured PBA luncheon speaker on several occasions, letting us all know what is happening in the Parkrose area. He is well-respected within the Portland Police Bureau and recently received a promotion therein. When he was volunteering at the PBA’s Trunk or Treat event, he even sported a “hipster haircut” look as his Halloween costume. Don’t know how that would go over at roll call, though. As Artie herself would have said about this selec-tion, “I like it!
