VEI Professional Development

Essential: What is Professional Development?

Focus: Why is professional development needed for your growth in knowledge?

ROLE

You will be assuming the role of a VEI employee who has been given a task with rules to professionally develop other employees in a specific area.

Audience

You and your partner will be presenting to the VEI firm, Jet Enterprises.

Assignment Summary

Firm members will identify strategies for presenting professional development, collect data and display results of a specific professional development area, cite evidence for professional development, critique other professional development presentations, connect concepts in a specific area of PD and design a presentation including an assessment tool.

Purpose

You will be responsible for the creation of four professional development lessons during this class. Attached are the options for subject matter related to the content standards and benchmarks associated with Business Administration and Management for each quarter of the year. This professional development sequence is laid out for you supporting the needs of VEI deadlines. The activity has been suggested for the first and third quarter. The second and fourth quarter activity must be designed independently to show your progress by being able to develop your own professional development activity to support the assigned concept.

FORM

Firm members will ultimately create a PowerPoint, Prezi, or another preferred type of presentation software, hands-on-activity that may vary in form, Kahoot for a review, and test created on Microsoft word. A graphic organizer will be used to determine order of concepts.

The Points

Below is a list of the points allotted for each quarter. You will be graded on your vocabulary and documentation of completion of activities surrounding each concept. Your professional development lesson will be graded on the Lesson Guide Planning Sheet and Rubric. Students will participate in the hands-on activity and Kahoot receiving designated points for each. Lastly, students will take a test for each concept. The points are listed below:

Professional Learning steps

The presentation should last at least 25 minutes and could take as much as a few class period depending on the supporting activity.

Steps before the presentation:

1. Look over the topics for the quarter and pick the area you would like to explore.

2. Review the Presentation Rubric.

3. Complete the Lesson Guide and Planning Sheet leaving the reflection sections for later.

4. Work with your partner to research your topic and consult the teacher as needed.

5. Develop the lesson and make sure you have the required tasks completed.

6. Make any necessary copies.

7. Practice your presentation and inform the rest of the firm on how they can help you on the day of the presentation.

Steps during the presentation:

1. Dress professionally.

2. Be prepared.

3. Make sure all employees have necessary materials to be active participants.

4. Give a professional and thorough presentation that at a minimum includes the following items (remember your total presentation must last at least 25 minutes):

a. PowerPoint or Prezi Presentation of the content (print with 6 slides per page)

b. Hands-on Activity that allows employees to apply learning (10 minute activity at minimum)

c. Visual component (ex: video relating to your content) (5 minute maximum unless special permission is sought)

d. Kahoot review at the end of your presentation with at least 10 questionsThese questions must prepare your audience for their upcoming test.

e. Final Assessment with at least 10 questions

5. Check for understanding throughout the presentation.

After the presentation:

1. Conduct the final assessment. - 10 points

2. Grade final assessment and give it to the instructor to be recorded.

3. Evaluate the effectiveness.

4. Share data with company.

5. Determine if any follow-up training is required.

#5 - 10 Points

Presentation has a Kahoot that provides an exceptional review of the main points; includes at least 10 questions that are similar to the final assessment. No slang words and no classmate names as answers. The goal of this activity is to prepare others for the test. Students will be in competition with each other to answer correctly first. To reward those listening and working hard, the first three will received an exemption for the test. Please list exemption on a blank test with that persons name. If unknown nicknames or other classmates names are used during the sign up, the exemption is forfeited.
