Blogging in the Classroom using EduBlog Trainer Kelsey Harms EduBlogs is a powerful platform that allows you to create a blog in your classroom Learn the difference between classroom personal and student blogs how to set up the privacy settings of your blog and ideas for incorporating blogs into the classroom This session is HANDS ON ndash we will be creating a class blog ndash please bring a laptoptablet to use and be prepared to share your ideas with other participants PD Clock Hour - 1

Building Effective Teacher-Paraeducator Teams Trainer Mary Ann Rivera Paraeducators impact the lives of students both inside and outside of the classroom and play a key role in student success Paraeducators provide instructional and non-instructional services from early childhood all the way through college In special education the majority of paraeducators provide small group instruction or back up support in general education classrooms for students with mildmoderate disabilities Other paraeducators work one on one with students who have greater learning challenges and functional needs Paraeducators are required to have a wide variety of knowledge and skills so professional development is key to job performance and improved student outcomes PD Clock Hour - 1

Care Notebooks - Home amp School Versions Trainer Penny Salvato Provides the basic framework to help families setup a Care Notebook with both a school version and a home version A Care Notebook is a detailed description of how everything is done for a child It covers health information daily routines recreation supports education family contacts future planning etc There is a great amount of depth involved to support an individual with special needs if the primary caregivers are not present The school version gives all the important information on a child that can support the child in the school situation It allows the staff to gain knowledge with less trial and error This increases the learning opportunities for the child PD Clock Hour - 1 Communicating with Parents Trainer Penny Salvato The communication between home and school allows for the child teacher and family to interact and know what happens throughout a childs day There are many different formats that can be used and modified Students are able to reflect upon the day Parents know what happened during their childs day and discuss it Families and teachers can establish open lines of communication that support student learning and family involvement PD Clock Hour - 1 Empowerment amp Equality Start by Teaching Learning Behaviors amp Life Skills Trainer Rusty May Behavior and life skills like respect and empathy must be scaffolded taught and practiced on a regular basis throughout a students K-12 journey just like every other aspect of the curriculum The most unchallenged assumptions in education today are that students should know how to behave and that life skills will develop automatically or that someone else is taking care of this vital aspect of a childs development Created on the research showing that behavior and life skills must be taught this session highlights Whole Child Tenants by giving educators tools and strategies to help all their students feel connected and confident in their ability to learn so that they can develop their strengths and realize their full potential PD Clock Hour - 1 Enhancing the Classroom Environment Working Efficiently and Accurately Trainer Elizabeth Bourne A guide to effective strategies towards classroom management and positive behavior through corrective planning role-play and direct instruction coupled with praise and affirmation This intensive session will also include successful techniques developed over thirty years by the Quantum Learning Network a proponent of youth development in academics and character PD Clock Hour - 1

Expanding Cultural and Social Awareness with Graphic Narrative Trainer Jim Bosomworth Increasing student awareness of multiple cultures and social differences can be difficult with texts and materials commonly available in the classroom Some topics will likely never be covered in textbooks or are glossed over or oversimplified leading to misunderstanding This presentation focuses on a number of graphic narrative texts that can be used in a variety of subject specialties focusing on middle school and high school levels and will include time for participants to review and suggest texts We will also discuss methods to increase multicultural or social issue texts in the library system PD Clock Hour - 1
