4 High Security Locks

The Kaba reputation is built upon quality and security. In fact, Kaba invented the

familiar reversible, milled key, which offers high security as well as convenience

as it can be inserted either way into the cylinder. Our patented and registered

mechanical key systems can be modified to meet customer needs. Kitemark

approved to BS EN 1303 standard, the Kaba cylinder offers protection against

picking, bumping and drilling attacks.

These locks have so many variations that they can be applied to almost any use,

from a standard door application in a building to lockers in sports facilities, lifts,

trains and heavy-duty industrial gates.

Kaba 20 and Kaba quattro pluS offer extensive master keying capabilities forming

the basis of a wide range of products which include camlocks, key switches, cabinet

locks and padlocks. One key can be mastered to open these several different

cylinder types including our electronic locking solutions, giving customers the

flexibility and convenience when securing large premises or remote sites.

5Mechanical Locks

Kaba’s mechanical lock range comprises both reversible and serrated keys and

the premium cylinder ranges Kaba experT and Gege pExtra. Both meet industry

standards; tested to BS EN 1303 they provide resistance against attacking, bumping,

drilling and snapping.

All our key systems can form part of a master key system incorporating a wide

range of cylinder types including padlocks, cabinet locks and camlocks, which can

all be opened by the same key.

Our mechanical key system range is distributed via a network of locksmiths,

architectural ironmongers and dealers. They are also available via our online

ordering service shop.kaba.co.uk

As with all our products Kaba mechanical key systems can be integrated with

electronic access control with the inclusion of an RFID chip into the key bow.

6 Standalone Access Control

Standalone electronic locks are quick and easy to install without the need for

hard wiring, which reduces installation costs. The locks are convenient to use

as one media can open many doors, effectively forming a standalone access

control system. This flexibility does not compromise security as the media can be

programmed to allow access on a particular day or time. This offers customers

complete control over access areas and restricted zones. With the audit trail

functionality, you always know who has accessed where and when.

Typical application areas for electronic locks include offices, building entrances,

retail outlet stockrooms and industrial facilities. Kaba evolo and Kaba elolegic

electronic locks are based upon RFID technology. When the card, key or fob is

presented access rights for the user are verified and recorded. Equally, security

is never jeopardised as, should a card be lost or stolen, you can simply delete the

authorisation of that card in the lock.

With a standalone access control system, lost keys or badges can be cancelled and

replaced via centralised software or through hand-held programmers. Users only

have access to certain rooms at certain times; a practically unlimited number of

users can be given access.

7Push Button Locks

The Kaba push button lock range offers both mechanical and electronic access

control solutions. Operated by a PIN code, push button locks offer customers

significant cost savings as they eliminate the need for key replacement. The

products are of high robust quality with many of them suitable for external and

remote sites. The locks can provide audit trails and time-limited access.

Our Kaba Simplex mechanical range offers a convenient way to control access

between public and private areas where certain individuals have little or no

access rights. There are no keys or cards to manage, no computers to program,

no batteries to replace, and combinations can be changed in seconds without

removing the lock from the door.

The Kaba Eplex electronic range provides additional features beyond the

mechanical product offering. These products range from simple programming

at the lock to more advanced applications requiring software for managing large

numbers of users and doors. PIN and/or card access locks allow management to set

access schedules and review activity via audit trails.

8 Online Access Control

The increasing demand for online access control systems is related to the

organisation of personnel traffic, management of security areas and recording

of events in real time. Users only have access to certain rooms at certain times; a

practically unlimited number of users can be given access. Lost keys or badges can

be cancelled and replaced via centralised software. As the locks are all hardwired,

they receive the instructions instantly.

Kaba access control solutions offer the very latest in functionality, convenience and

automated management, to enhance security and reduce operating costs. Areas

typically secured include building offices, server rooms, R&D facilities, laboratories,

control rooms, data rooms, banks, high-security government facilities, police and

military installations.

Kaba provides a comprehensive online access control solution, which not only

includes online components, but also manages mechanical master key systems,

standalone electronic locks and security doors. Moreover, Kaba access control

solutions integrate with intruder systems, alarm systems and CCTV.

9Workforce Management

Effective and efficient workforce management is key to the success of an

organisation. Wage overpayment, over or under-staffing, production inefficiencies,

payroll errors... the costs can be hidden but significant. An average figure of

around 2 hours per week can be lost in lateness, breaks, early departure, personal

breaks etc.

Between 0.5% and 5% of payroll cost is accounted for by errors, which could be

eliminated with a more efficient system. You can lose 1 to 7 minutes per employee

in auditing clock cards or time sheets, which can be saved through a streamlined

automated system. 40% of workers would ‘think again’ if they knew their

attendance was monitored, which significantly reduces absence from sickness.

Kaba’s workforce management solutions, including very attractive time-and-

attendance terminals, offer dynamic cost-saving potential. With proven integration

into leading ERP, HR and business management systems such as SAP, AX, Oracle

and PeopleSoft, Kaba offers unprecedented capabilities to enhance security,

measure and improve workforce productivity, and reduce administrative burden

and operation costs.

10 Security Revolving Doors & Interlocks

Kaba’s security revolving doors and personal interlocks are used to organise access

of authorised persons to secure relevant areas and to regulate through flow. The

systems are controlled electronically and can be activated by card readers, buttons,

operating panels or by biometric identification systems.

They are compatible with access control systems to enhance security and where

required can be combined with time and attendance recording systems.

Security revolving doors and personal interlocks are typically installed at protected

government facilities, sensitive areas of industrial and admin buildings, banks,

IT and R&D centres, staff entrances at airports, air-to-land crossover points at

airports, power plants and military facilities.

Kaba’s wide range of revolving doors provide an energy efficient solution thanks

to their thermal separation design incorporated into the facade of a building. They

also feature access for people with reduced mobility, emergency escape function,

integration of manual or motor-driven night shutters and much more.

Kaba security doors provide a definitive access control solution and are available in

a wide range of construction types, colours and shapes.

11Security Turnstiles, Barriers & Gates

Kaba turnstiles, barriers and gates operate in the same manner as our security

revolving doors and interlocks, organising access of authorised persons to

secure relevant areas and regulating through flow. The systems are controlled

electronically and can be activated by card readers, buttons, operating panels or by

biometric identification systems.

Compatible with access control and time and attendance recording systems,

Kaba turnstiles provide reliable, fast and user-friendly controlled entry of people

to private and public facilities. The full-height and half-height turnstiles meet

requirements such as throughput rate and required levels of security and settings.

13Safe Locks

The Kaba Mas and La Gard brands are the perfect locking solution for any safe, vault

or container application, ensuring protection from intent within as well as defence

against outside aggression.

The product portfolio extends from purely mechanical key and combination locks to

sophisticated electronic products and dual credential high-security locks. Our safe

locks meet the very latest standards; tested to BS EN 1300 they provide customers

with security and peace of mind. Additionally the Kaba Auditcon comes with an

optional spy shield for added security protection and is government approved.

Kaba produce the only self-powered, battery-free electronic locks which are widely

used across MoD estates. This technology has also contributed to making Kaba

Cencon the world’s best selling ATM locking system with over a million locks sold.

Kaba has recently pushed the technology barrier further with the introduction of

Kaba Axessor, the first safe lock capable of being audited and configured remotely via

a LAN / WAN, thus offering users significant time and cost savings.

2 Security in Corporate Offices

Many modern-day office buildings are used by a variety of people on a daily basis.

In some cases, facilities managers or security managers are on site, but not always.

This makes the definition of user groups, security zones, access authorisation

profiles and a suitable access control system a necessity. Whether owner-occupied

with long-term requirements or rented on a short-term basis, office spaces need a

flexible access control system, where users can be given access rights depending on

their job role and areas that they need to access.

In many new-build developments, architects look for hardware that blends into

the design of the building. Meanwhile occupants want security, easy operation, low

key-replacement costs and investment security

Kaba offers a flexible concept based on an intelligent, electronic access control

system combined with a mechanical master-key system and security revolving

doors and turnstiles.

3Security in Airports

Security requirements at airports have both increased and become more complex

in recent years. The purpose is to fight terrorism while improving slot management

and optimising passenger flow without compromising safety. At the same time

architects and planning teams are constantly striving for an open, welcoming

environment.

Kaba offers specific solutions to help achieve these objectives. Our automated

border control systems support airport staff in checking passports. A sensor barrier

with integrated interlock functionality and biometric verification helps prevent

fraudulent use of passports and speeds up border controls. Kaba self-boarding

units at gates support airport staff in checking boarding cards and help speed up

the boarding process. The sensor barrier with automatic swing panels features an

integrated boarding card reader, a display for passenger information and a printer

for seat imprint.

Our comprehensive electronic access control solutions and mechanical locking

systems can be customised to suit security identification display areas (SIDA),

secured and sterile areas and operational spaces, while Kaba’s time-recording

systems help improve staff productivity.

4 Security in Education

Kaba integrated solutions are widely used by colleges and universities to secure

main entrances, classrooms, IT rooms, laboratories, libraries, sports facilities and

accommodation blocks. They ensure the safety and security of staff, students and

their belongings while protecting school equipment from theft and vandalism. Anti-

bullying policies are also supported using an integrated cashless vending solution.

Kaba time-recording systems improve HR efficiency by eradicating the errors and

associated costs with manually recording data. The entire system is visible at all

times and reports on who has accessed where and when. It can even provide a

sophisticated roll-call report of who exactly is on site in the event of an emergency.

With staff, students and visitors frequently moving around the site it is difficult to

secure external doors, as automatic sliding doors allow draught and heat loss. Kaba

revolving doors provide excellent thermal insulation at main entrances helping to

reduce energy costs.

There is no need for extra keys or cards. In most cases, the existing student and

staff identity cards can be programmed to operate the installed devices.

5Security in Healthcare

Healthcare establishments represent a complex physical environment with

numerous entrances used by staff, patients, physicians, suppliers and visitors. There

are also many areas with their own security requirements including A&E, infant

care, pharmacy, operating theatres, laboratories, shops, offices and even short-term

accommodation.

Substantial investment into the healthcare sector has caused an increase in the

threat of theft and vandalism. Other risks include attack to visitors and staff and

theft of drugs and equipment. These risks can amount to material loss, damage to

reputation, litigation and, in extreme cases, loss of life.

At Kaba we develop and manufacture a wide range of security products that face

up to these challenges. Our comprehensive access control systems combined with

security doors and time-recording devices ensure optimum security and efficiency

without compromising people’s movement. Moreover, they integrate well into the

hospital management system (HMS).

6 Security in Retail

Unlike many environments the retail industry usually operates two distinct areas;

the shop floor, and the back of house where the stores and cash handling are

located. Apart from restricting access to members of the public to the secure

areas, the retail industry is often required to manage the access and movement of

employees. By creating zones that have increased levels of security, it is possible to

restrict access and to minimise loss of stock or money via theft.

The Kaba range of push button locks, safe locks, and access control and workforce

management solutions are used extensively in the retail sector. These individual

products reflect the diversity of our portfolio but represent only a part of the

product range that Kaba can fully integrate to form a complete solution designed to

optimise staff management, protect employees, and secure cash rooms and stock

areas holding high value items.

Kaba works in partnership with many leading retail organisations to create

solutions using either standard or bespoke products that can be used in the high

street, shopping centres and individual retail outlets.

7Security in Sports Stadia

Admitting thousands of spectators safely into a large venue within a very short

space of time is something that requires careful management.

At Kaba we have developed a range of turnstiles, barriers and revolving doors that

are specifically designed to control throughput into stadia and balance the need for

security, safety and effective crowd management. Kaba Turnstiles integrate with

all industry-leading ticketing systems to increase speed of entry whilst monitoring

visitor numbers. In many stadia, the ticketing integration uses a multitude of

technologies from bar code scanning to biometrics.

In Kaba systems, integration is a key element since the majority of stadia in the 21st

century offer hospitality, conferencing and hotel facilities. Kaba’s access control

systems offer benefits across the entire site. Security door and access solutions

boast eye-catching design whilst meeting security and safety regulations. They

maximise cost efficiencies in managing access for visitors, supporters, staff and

corporate sponsors alike.

8 Security in Rail

As a leading manufacturer of mechanical and electronic access control and as

an active member of the Railway Industry Association and the Rail Alliance we

are continually at the forefront of technological developments and security

requirements in the rail industry.

In particular we create customised locking solutions for train manufacturers, rail

consultants and train operating companies. These tailor-made security solutions

are used to secure locomotives, rolling stock, station buildings and trackside and

signalling equipment. Our Gateshield lock was specifically designed for securing

trackside cabinets often located in harsh external environments where the threat of

attack is high.

We are able to combine both electronic and mechanical locking solutions to provide

comprehensive security to both employees and passengers. Our keyswitches

combine physical locking with a switching element designed for signalling

equipment and control panels. Our products can be used to control train doors that

open onto the station platform, thus greatly enhancing the security of passengers

disembarking from the train. Our mechanical locking solutions are also convenient

and flexible to use as the Kaba key can be mastered to open any number of locking

solutions including key safety deposit boxes, doors and restricted zones within a

train or station.

9Security in Utilities & Telecoms

Utilities typically have sophisticated control rooms and a high number of remote

facilities. These have to be protected as well as be accessible 24 hours a day.

Maintenance visits are irregular and often conducted by different staff. Keys

constantly change hands, which increases the risk of security, potentially ending up

in theft, vandalism or even terrorist attack.

Susceptible to these threats and possible interruption in service, Kaba works in

partnership with power, water and telecom customers to ensure our products serve

to eradicate these risks.

Our CardLink concept, which combines hardwired and standalone access control

devices, ensures that only the right people gain access at the right time. Remote

sites can be managed centrally, and audit trail ensures that the operator knows who

opened a particular door, when and for how long.

Should a customer wish to rely purely on mechanical locks, our patented master

key systems are an obvious choice, with the durable and attack-resistant Kaba

Gateshield for vulnerable remote sites, and the reinforced Kaba latch lock for

vehicle strong boxes to protect engineers’ laptops from theft.

10 Security in Hospitality & Leisure

Kaba offers stand-alone electronic guest room door locking as well as reception

management systems comprising magnetic stripe and proximity card access.

After decades of innovative research and development, our line-up of network and

standalone security systems is such that we have a solution for virtually every

access control application or security need in the lodging sector including short-

term letting properties, conference centres, sheltered accommodation and halls

of residence.

Kaba provides cost reducing, efficient systems for handling check-in and check-out

procedures. Our systems can speed up the check-in process while ensuring cards

are assigned quickly and accurately to guests. Our range of guest room door

locks offer a variety of benefits, from the type of finish and design through to

increased functionality. Our hotel systems allow cards to be cancelled, messages to

receptionists and real-time staff locating to be remotely managed, allowing hotel

management to continuously monitor staff or contractors.

Reducing energy is now also an important focus for many hotels and Kaba

offers products such as energy savers for guest rooms, ensuring all power is

switched off when the guest leaves the room. Kaba revolving doors for reception

areas and public entrances also provide excellent thermal insulation helping to

reduce energy costs.

11Security in Banking & Finance

Financial institutions work in a complex environment providing secure public areas

for customers and staff as well as highly secure back room facilities for cash and

private documentation.

Kaba offers a bespoke range of reliable high-security products for the protection

of valuables and personnel, as well as the safe transportation of cash and

documents. Our access control systems integrate locking devices, security doors,

time-and-attendance terminals, alarm systems and CCTV to provide a seamless

security solution.

Our electronic safe lock Kaba Cencon is ideal for ATM machines, as it requires both

a one-time combination and smart key. Our environmentally friendly Kaba Auditcon

is ideal for protecting valuable documentation. Government approved, it requires

no batteries or mains input.

For protection of cash and sensitive documents on the move, the Kaba key switch

is used not only to control the main doors to a vehicle but to immobilise the

vehicle and activate a distress alarm in the event of the occupants’ safety being

compromised.

12 Security in Government & MoD

Kaba offers fully integrated security solutions which encompass biometric and RFID

(radio-frequency identification) access control solutions for government facilities

and military institutions. Our patented mechanical key systems offer flexibility and

control to users, eliminating the need for lots of keys. One key can be mastered

to open several different locking types such as padlocks on perimeter security,

access doors and storage cabinets. The key can also be equipped with an RFID chip

allowing access to areas controlled by electronic locks, again providing convenience

and savings in time and money.

Our electronic and mechanical safe and container lock range is ideal for securing

important documentation or valuables within a building or at remote sites. The

government-approved Kaba Auditcon ensures security is never compromised as the

lock can only be operated using a one-time combination with smart key.

Our access control systems also ensure personnel safety and security, whilst

offering cost saving benefits. Programmed access rights to particular zones means

you know who has accessed where and when. In the event of an emergency, a

sophisticated roll-call report shows if all people have been evacuated.

13Security in Manufacturing

Every company needs improved visibility for its most efficient and expensive

resource – people. Finding the right solution can significantly reduce costs, improve

efficiency and increase productivity. But manufacturing facilities are typically

challenged by high numbers of people using diverse facilities. Working shifts

change constantly, there is high personnel fluctuation and some companies have as

many visitors and subcontractor staff as own employees.

This situation causes serious risks such as lost or stolen keys, operation of sensitive

equipment by unauthorised individuals, buddy punching, false reporting by

subcontractors and loss of efficiency. Uncontrolled people movement can lead to

loss of data, damage to equipment and risk to health and safety.

With in-depth knowledge of manufacturing practices, Kaba offers a bespoke,

diverse and comprehensive range of solutions. Our time-recording systems enable

organisations to analyse labour costs, so that every penny is accounted for. Our

access control systems offer tangible benefits ranging from enhanced security to

operational efficiency and meeting health & safety requirements. All our systems

integrate with the leading ERP systems, like SAP, Oracle, AX and Peoplesoft.
