HARI StoryThe Hagen Avicultural Research Institute (HARI) was established in 1985 tostudy the captive breeding and maintenance of companion birds. At presentthe breeding colony houses over 350 pairs of more than 50 various parrotspecies, as well as other types of companion birds.

The Hagen Avicultural Research Institute (HARI) has gained a respected interna-tional reputation for its work in avian research, nutrition and husbandry. Re-search fields include disease control, pair bonding, nutrition and the influence oftemperature, humidity and light cycles on breeding.

Re-inventing the avian environment.The majority of bird cages on the market today come equipped with a pull-outdrawer. One of the disadvantages of a pull-out drawer is that often the draweritself is smaller than the cage base. This means that the bird waste often missesthe drawer, dropping on to the base, thus forcing the consumer to dismantle thecage in order to clean the base as well as the drawer – often a time-consumingand messy process.

With the Vision® Home for Birds– we’ve eliminated the drawer.The “no drawer” cage designsimplifies cage cleaning – justdetach the cage portion fromthe base portion and empty thecontents of the base into thewaste bin.

IntroductionThe Vision® Home for Birds continues the “less mess” tradition of bird cagedesign pioneered by the original Vision® Living Space for Birds.

As we all know birds, while making wonderful companions, can be quitemessy. Their movements cause air currents which, in the case of moststandard bird cages, cause waste, feathers and seed debris to be ejected fromthe cage and onto the floor.

In the case of the Vision® Home for Birds, the combination of debris guard,deep base and the placement of the seed/water cups help combat air currentsto keep the majority of the waste and debris inside the cage. This reduces theamount of mess and the time-consuming clean ups associated with birdkeeping, leaving you more time to enjoy your pet.

Vision® Home for Birds are available in single home and tall homemodels, with each model available in Small, Medium and Large sizes.

PRIMEPrime is a complete dietary supplementthat can produce advanced support instressful situations. Health CareWash your hands before and after handling birds. Maintain a routine cleaningschedule. Keep all food and water containers clean, wash daily if possible.Throw out any containers, toys or utensils that are cracked, badly scratchedor chipped.

Keep perches clean and replace regularly. Store bird seeds in airtightcontainers in a cool, dark place. Be careful about exposing pet birds to otherbirds (i.e. during boarding or grooming) and use caution when introducingnew birds. Talk to your veterinarian about a quarantine period.

Pet bird care should be a shared family responsibility.

• Ask your pet shop retailer about the best species for your lifestyle.

• A bird cage should be spacious, secure, and cleaned frequently.

• Always have fresh food and water changed daily.

• Keep bird cages in a safe location, away from dangers such as directsunlight, kitchen fumes, cold temperatures and predators.

• Secure your home from any potential dangers before letting your bird flyaround freely; always monitor its flight.

• Never chain down a bird—clipping flight feathers is a safe and humaneway to prevent pet birds from escape or injury.

• Know your bird—any change in normal behavior could be a signof illness.

• If your bird’s beak, wings or nails require trimming, let a veterinarian oravian expert show you how to do it first.

• Most birds, especially very young ones, need attention; take the time toplay with them.

• Plain seed mixes can lead to obesity as well as deficiencies in calciumand vitamins. Try to feed your bird formulated diets or at least providenutritional seed supplements.

• Birds should visit the vet at least once a year.

Hagen Grit and Seed TreatsHAGEN TREAT MIX contains only the highest quality seeds blended expressly forthe nutritional needs of birds. All seeds are specially selected for high nutritionand taste appeal. They are air cleaned and then polished to ensure a dust free,appetizing mixture eagerly sought by birds.

Some birds instinctively know that some trace minerals are found in naturallyoccurring grits. Since parrot-type birds remove the seed shells, they probablyrequire little grit-based grinding action as their gizzard seems more than able tohandle the job even without any grit. Pet doves, quail and pigeons require gritbecause they do not shell their seed. Many pet birds do not get all the mineralsthey need, so periodically offer small amounts of a mineral grit substance suchas Oyster Shell. This hard grit is an excellent source of calcium.

Seed treats add variety and interest to a regular diet. They should be alternatedto provide different nutrients and textures. Birds on a Tropican diet should behand fed small amounts of seed treats.
