Product management is about driving every moment of a product lifecycle to effectively take a new product or service from idea to market.

A Product Manager will:

• Investigate what users really need and work with a team on how to best meet these needs within specific time and cost constraints

• Define and articulate the idea and vision for a digital product or service and get all team members and key stakeholders’ buy in

• Build a strategy to find the right product/market fit

METHOD OF STUDYOnline, self-paced.

TIME COMMITMENT30 hours over 6 months.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

10 modules including product management fundamentals, product strategy and roadmap, tools and delivery methods, storytelling, financial modelling and success measures.

A project presentation and a Certificate of Completion.

LEVEL OF STUDY

Introductory course. No prerequisites required.

• Oversee the product design phase to provide customers with something functional, useful, and delightful

• Run the execution phase and map a plan of action to turn the idea into reality, assess the launch results and optimise accordingly.

With such a broad spectrum of people and tasks to oversee, Product Managers are ‘jacks of all trades’ who sit at the center of all activities and have skills across management, analytics, and creative fields. They are a vital component of any organisation’s success, in charge of aligning a company’s objectives with market needs, reducing the risks of failed products and future-proofing a business by constantly working on the “next big thing”.

This is the opportunity to solve a digital challenge that reflects your interests, business idea or current employment. An instructor will review your project presentation and provide structured feedback at the end of the course.

This course is for a range of learners, from Product Marketers, Business Analysts, to aspiring startup founders and business owners. But don’t worry, there are no prerequisites to enrol.

We welcome students from all levels and professional backgrounds. Simply turn up with passion, curiosity, and a desire to learn independently and complete this course in your own time and at your own pace.

If you’d like to network and further your product management knowledge and involvement with the community, feel free to attend product management meetups in your local area or join an online product management community, such as The Product Coalition.

It will take you approximately 30 hours to complete the 10 modules, activities, reading and personal project preparation.

To keep you on track, we recommend booking regular and non-negotiable times into your calendar. For example, scheduling a weekly 3-hour block to read, watch, and apply your knowledge is an optimal study format for many of our online learners, and means you could complete the course in a span of 3 months.

Our Product Management Foundations course contains a course-wide project assessment.

At the end of every topic, you’ll complete activities and build assets which will form the basis of your project presentation. You’ll need to identify a digital problem to solve or a digital product or service to launch. We recommend you pick something that’s meaningful and relevant to the product management work you’re interested in.

At the end of the course, an instructor will review your project presentation and provide structured feedback on what you have done well and ways you can improve.

By the end of this course, you will:

• Understand the core concepts and principles of product management

• Be able to apply your learning to your current business challenges

• Understand each phase of the product lifecycle, from idea to market launch

• Determine if there is a product/market fit for your idea

• Understand how customers’ needs translate into a product or service

• Be able to build a product roadmap

• Know how to create visualisations of your concepts, and test them with users

• Understand the importance of consumer research, market analysis, data and testing
