The product line

dermofeel® products comprise a carefully chosen line of emulsifiers, functional

oils and antioxidants for cosmetic and dermatological applications. The well

balanced product profiles are tailored to meet as many requirements of modern

cosmetic concepts as possible. Functionality and technical performance are the

main focus for the development of the dermofeel® product line. Wherever

possible we choose raw materials from sustainable sources in order to comply

with this important trend for an increasing number of consumer products.


The natural oil thickener is a powder with a melting point of ~60°C. It is used to

convert liquid oils in soft, creamy textures. The resulting product is an elegant

soft oil paste that is easy to apply on the skin without smearing and dripping. It

can be used in jars or with a pump dispenser. There is no influence on the

sensorial profile of the oils which makes it ideal for massage oils. dermofeel®

viscolid has been tested with various oils and is compatible with plant oils as

well as ester oils, mineral oil or silicones. The thickening effect is based on a

delicate network of fine lipid crystals that upon contact with the skin melt and

forms a liquid phase with the sensorial profile of the oil mixture used.

Application

dermofeel® viscolid can be used as an oil thickener and stabilizer in many

cosmetic concepts. Formulating with dermofeel® viscolid is very easy. It is

melted into the oil phase at temperatures above 60°C, due to ist structure it is

not oxidizable. In pure oils the mixture is cooled down under stirring and

homogenized around 30°C.

Oil Components


The viscosity increase of pure oils with dermofeel® viscolid depends on the

concentration used as can be seen above. Following a viscosity increase of liquid

textures at low dosage the oil is converted into a soft and creamy solid at higher

concentrations (usually starting from 5%). The formulator can adjust the viscosity

and product type (i.e. more liquid or more solid) to the marketing demands for the

finished product.

In the above picture the viscosity increase of pure sunflower oil with Dermofeel

viscolid is visible. Please note the different structure of the gel, becoming more

solid with an increasing amount of Dermofeel viscolid in the formulation. This

helps to adjust the viscosity according to the needs of the product concept.

dermofeel® viscolid can be used with various oils. The dose-dependant effect

is very similar for virgin plant oils, natural or semi-synthetic ester oils, mineral oils

or silicon oils.

The thickening effect of dermofeel® viscolid is seen in mixed oil phases with

different polarities as well. The above graph illustrates the thickening effect with

different oils. Also the incorporation of essential oils or perfumes is easy and

does not influence the thickening of the oil.

genetically modified material.

Packing units

dermofeel® viscolid is available in 20 kg paper bag with inner PE-bag.

Handling and storage

In closed original containers dermofeel® viscolid can be stored for 24 months. It

does not need to be preserved.
