FALMOUTH COMMUNITY TELEVISION FCTV PRESENTS February 2012 Wednesday, February 8, from 3-7pm at FCTV. Operation Valentine is FCTV’s way of opening our community media resources to acknowledge the many Falmouth citizens on military assignments away from home and their families. The messages will run on Public Channel 13 and our website at www.fctv.org during Valentine week. Participants will be offered 30 seconds in front of the camera and microphone to record their message over their choice of a dozen Valentine backdrops. To participate, you must be a Falmouth resident or have a valentine message to send to a Falmouth resident overseas. Messages can be recorded by individuals or groups of no more than 10 persons. Call FCTV at 508-457-0800 Monday through Thursday from 2pm-10pm and Fridays from 10am-6pm to reserve a time slot to record your message on February 8 between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00 pm. Anyone under the age of 18 must have expressed written consent of a parent or legal guardian to participate and all others must sign a release form. Winter 2012 Training Schedule ORIENTATION A one-hour class offered each month to all new members and open to the public. Learn more about FCTV. Mondays: February 2; March 1, 6:30-7:30 pm Newcomers Welcome Prerequisite: None BASIC FIELD PRODUCTION This basic course is designed for anyone interested in video field production for the purpose of creating their own public access TV shows. Tuesdays and Thursdays: March 13, 15, 20, 22, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Prerequisite: Orientation and Membership BASIC STUDIO A basic course is designed for those interested in creating their own “in-studio” television program using the FCTV studio and control room to produce timely or live programs with little or no post-production needed. Hands-on instruction in this course includes all the basic skills required to produce a multi-camera television show. Training covers camera operations, audio, lighting, technical and floor directing. Tuesdays: February 7, 14, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Wednesdays: March 7, 14, 21, 28, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Additional Basic Studio classes can also be scheduled by request for groups and organizations wishing to produce their own studio television program. Thursday: March 8, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Prerequisite: Basic Studio or Field SPECIAL WORKSHOPS: Light Kit A one-session workshop to focus on getting the best results from your field shoots using FCTV’s portable lights and lighting accessories. SPECIAL WORKSHOPS: Audio A one-evening session will include a brief demo and hands-on practice with the FCTV collection of microphones and mixing boards. Wednesday: February 15, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Prerequisite: Basic Studio or Field CAROUSEL COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD WORKSHOP A one session, two-hour workshop geared toward our members from non-profit organizations. Create and manage your own pages on the Channel 13 Community Bulletin Board. Learn to use this very easy program and promote your organization! Monday: February 6, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Prerequisite: Non-profit Organization Membership DRUPAL BASICS* A four-week workshop that focuses on how to build, organize and maintain a website using Drupal, the free and open source content management system. Topics covered: hosting, installation, using themes, organizing your content, menus, and some helpful Drupal modules such as calendars, galleries, and more. Drupal allows non-technical website owners to make quick and timely updates to their website from any location that has an internet connection. Monday: February 6, 7:00 - 9:00 pm *Fee: $75.00 for FCTV members, $125.00 for non-members. CMS 101 - Build A Better Website* An overview of popular content management systems in use today that allow non-technical people to maintain and update their websites themselves - quickly and from almost any location that has an internet connection. Drupal, Joomla and Wordpress will be demonstrated, discussed, compared and contrasted. Thursday: March 15, 6:00 - 9:00 pm *Fee: $25.00 for FCTV members, $35.00 for non-members. FACEBOOK for PARENTS One-session workshop to help parents understand the world-changing social media site, Facebook, and better supervise children’s activities on it. Thursday: February 16, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Prerequisite: Orientation and Membership TALENT U SERIES (One night sessions) TU - INTERVIEW: Mindy Todd, host and producer of The Point on WCAI will be conducting this one-evening workshop. Focus will be on techniques for conducting a fruitful interview for both studio and field projects.
