models and end-to-end critical
business processes
Solution Architect for developing
and implementing BSS and OSS
solutions using off-the-shelf

Excellent Customer Care
Customers can differentiate themselves
from their competitors by meeting or
exceeding customer expectations.
Delivering Right-first-time and On time
especially requires robust processes, clear
working procedures within the value chain
and properly integrated IT applications.
Improvements in customer care are often
possible to achieve in relation to the
following elements:
More intensive collaboration within
the customer, operator, service
provider, installer/business partner
and potentially involved BPO
suppliers’ chain.
Improvement of customer
care/self-care
Improved knowledge
transfer/communication about new
releases and new services
The design of various use cases
whereby the decomposition into
generic process building blocks
results in flexibility and reuse
Raising the quality and the
reliability of the delivery of new
releases
Bundling Voice- Internet- Video
Broadband infrastructures have become
suitable for triple play applications (Internet,
TV and Voice with the associated value
added services, such as e-mail, voice mail
and video on demand). ‘All-over-IP and IP-
over-all’. Consumers appear to strongly
prefer to have their services provided to
them as a single package.
Now that cable operators are offering 3P
services, DSL operators are enhancing their
networks to make them suitable for Multi-
set TV in particular. Cable operators are
forced to offer a good price for the wholesale
resale of analogue TV (WLR-C). The benefits
of interactive TV and personal ads on the
basis of IPTV are clear, but most consumers
are primarily focused on frame quality and
the available selection of channels.
Bundling voice-internet-TV applications
increases the number of use cases for
delivery, service and billing and causes
complexity to further increase. The ability to
deliver, service and invoice for multiple
services provided via the same access
furthermore requires flexible OSS, CRM and
Billing solutions.
FttX/ VDSL
To be able to add – broadband consuming- services requires VDSL-based forms of access, or even FTTx technology. The issue for operators then is whether they
should be using layer 1 (MDF, SDF, ODF),
layer 2 (Ethernet) or layer 3 (IP access) forms
of access.
Switching Process
The intensity of the battle for customer
loyalty and churn in a consolidating telecom
market is expected to continue to increase
and will be given greater attention than the
initial acquisition of new customers for
existing services

The broadband market offers various
migration options for switching between
providers. This includes migrations from:
Active infrastructure providers
(e.g., Telco- Telco migrations)
Passive infrastructure providers
(Cable-DSL-Fiber Optic)
Service providers (Voice, TV,
Internet)
A new service provider-driven transition
model was proposed by the FIST (Forum for
Interconnection and Special Access)/COIN
(Communications Infrastructure) initiative
effective 1 January 2009 that market players
are required to follow.
Simplified Number Porting Process
Starting in the autumn of 2009, the number
porting process (for Fixed, Mobile and
Service numbers) will be drastically
simplified.
Operators will route all messages from the
current situation (1) via the CRDB as the
central message broker (2). Messages can
subsequently also be presented on the CRDB
(3) via a simplified process (consisting of PR,
PRA, PP and Broadcast) via MQ/ASN1 and
MQ/XML. Operators can then migrate
individually thus creating the end situation
(4). In our view, operators that migrate will
profit from a number of benefits, such as the
ability to switch their networks faster
ensuring revenues and avoid dropped or
non-successful calls.
Opening up Cable
Regulations are also expected in 2009
concerning the opening up of cable, whereby
cable operators are obliged to offer
wholesale analogue TV (WLR-C).
Although the expectation is that only a few
market players want to make use of this offer
(KPN has been excluded), the cable

operators will have to adjust their generally
siloed and vertically integrated architecture
in order to achieve the uncoupling of
services, access and CRM so that they can
make a wholesale reference offer.
An additional benefit of this type of
uncoupling is that cable operators (UPC and
Ziggo have been excluded) can also offer
their services on the access infrastructures of
third parties (e.g., KPN WBA) outside their
own cable service area. Prodapt Consulting
has extensive experience with the
development of wholesale portfolios,
regulated or not.
Processes and IT
Based on the service’s development phase
and the projected take-up volume, a proper
balance between sound processes, trained
and motivated IT workers and IT support will
have to be found.
We see the following relevant IT trends in
the broadband chain:
B2B interfaces (XML, SOAP) and the
integration of the front and back
office through means of EAI (IBM
WebSphere, TIBCO)
Business Process Management
(BPM) using products such as IBM
WebSphere, TIBCO, webMethods,
Cordys and WebLogic, as well as
Open Source Java BPM
Standard BSS and Billing
applications such as Oracle Siebel
and BRM, Amdocs Clarify
Standard OSS applications such as
Cramer, Netcracker, ConceptWave,
IBM Tivoli, AXIOSS, Oracle
MetaSolve and TTI Telecom
Mobile Internet/ 4G/ LTE
Mobile internet is the most rapidly growing
service in the industry. Broadband providers
are attempting to expand their fixed data
networks on the basis of MVNO/MVNE
contracts, whereby customers via dongle,
USB stick or a laptop equipped with SIM
mobile are provided with internet access at
download speeds of up to 7.2 Mb (HSPDA).
Some are preparing for the 2.6 GHz band
auction. This would enable them to roll out
their own 4G/LTE-based radio network.
