TMSS also has Mrs. Lee moving into the office as the academic advisor and four new teachers: Miss Cierra Brittain (replacing Mrs. Simpson on her maternity leave), Mr. Riley Hobbins (our new welding/shop teacher), Mr. Jordan Lam Ma (mostly a gr 10 teacher) and Mr. Garrett Yee (our new Foods/PAA teacher and another art teacher). Despite all the new staff, our school’s mission, vision and commitments (you can find these on our school webpage at tmss.nesd.ca will continue to be our guiding principles, including our student mantra: Commit to G.R.I.T. Throughout the year, our entire staff will be encouraging our students to have a growth mindset, develop resilience and integrity, all the while working together with others. As part of Mr. Kerr’s admin team the last four years, I helped develop this mantra and, now as principal, I remain loyal to our long term plan feeling that these qualities are essential for our children to be successful in our community throughout the 21st century. In addition, our school will be continuing to work on goals that the Ministry of Education has set for public schools in this province. They include: 1) Helping students with their overall wellness and understanding that if students’ mental health is not strong, then academics and learning will not be either; 2) Increasing the number of students achieving fully meeting or higher with their reading, writing, and number strand in math; and 3) Improving our graduation rates. I have updated a lot of the student handbook on our webpage to align with our current practices. You can find the student handbook under Student Info – Student Handbook. Traditionally, the TMSS principal has been the administrator for the gr 10 through 12 students and that practice will also be continuing, but for those families that have not met me in the past twenty years that I’ve been living in Tisdale or have not dealt with me while I’ve been teaching at TMSS the last eleven years, I encourage you to come into the school to say hello and discuss the exciting year that we have planned.

Principal’s Message

Mrs. Carmen Messer

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year at Tisdale

Middle & Secondary School. I hope that everyone

(staff, students and families) found time over the

last couple of months to relax and recover from

the previous year. With school commitments and

all the activities that our kids enjoy, life with

children can certainly get hectic. Summer should

be a time to reconnect with friends and family and

partake in a little down time!

I am excited to begin my new position as principal

at TMSS and to work with a new admin team, Mr.

David Painchaud (gr 8/9 Vice Principal) and Mr.

Dallas Thiessen (gr 6/7 Vice Principal). Mr.

Thiessen has previously been the principal at

Arborfield School. For the first time in several

years, all three administrators live in Tisdale and

are raising their families here which indicates how

engaged we are in this school and the community

as a whole. TMSS also has Mrs. Lee moving into

the office as the academic advisor and four new

teachers: Miss Cierra Brittain (replacing Mrs.

Simpson on her maternity leave), Mr. Riley

Hobbins (our new welding/shop teacher), Mr.

Jordan Lam Ma (mostly a gr 10 teacher) and Mr.

Garrett Yee (our new Foods/PAA teacher and

another art teacher).

Despite all the new staff, our school’s mission,

vision and commitments (you can find these on

our school webpage at tmss.nesd.ca will continue

to be our guiding principles, including our student

mantra: Commit to G.R.I.T. Throughout the year,

our entire staff will be encouraging our students

to have a growth mindset, develop resilience and

integrity, all the while working together with

others. As part of Mr. Kerr’s admin team the last

four years, I helped develop this mantra and, now

as principal, I

remain loyal

to our long

term plan

feeling that

these qualities

are essential

for our

children to be

successful in

our

community

throughout

the 21st century.

In addition, our school will be continuing to work

on goals that the Ministry of Education has set for

public schools in this province. They include:

1) Helping students with their overall wellness

and understanding that if students’ mental

health is not strong, then academics and

learning will not be either;

2) Increasing the number of students achieving

fully meeting or higher with their reading,

writing, and number strand in math; and

3) Improving our graduation rates.

I have updated a lot of the student handbook on

our webpage to align with our current practices.

You can find the student handbook under Student

Info – Student Handbook.

Traditionally, the TMSS principal has been the

administrator for the gr 10 through 12 students

and that practice will also be continuing, but for

those families that have not met me in the past

twenty years that I’ve been living in Tisdale or

have not dealt with me while I’ve been teaching at

TMSS the last eleven years, I encourage you to

come into the school to say hello and discuss the

exciting year that we have planned.

Important from the Office

Every student will have brought home a blank

PINK NESD Registration form. Please fill out.

ALL forms MUST be signed by parent

and returned to the TMSS office by

Monday, September 9th at 9:00am.

Please review and check off the GRAY Privacy

Consent Form. It too is due back at the office

on Monday, September 9th at 9:00am.

All grade 9-12 students will be receiving a

school email where they will review the

technology protocol and confirm their

responsibilities. It will be arranged that all

students will login to their email at the

appropriate time and respond. All grade 6-8

students, parents will receive an email to

confirm for their child.

Communication

The Sangha communication system and app that

TMSS was testing out last year will no longer be

used. We will be using our previous system called

School Messenger. Thank you for your patience

while we tried it out.

The TMSS webpage has all its policies,

newsletters, School Community Council

information, calendar of events, and so much

more. Please check it out at tmss.nesd.ca.

Feel free to check out the daily student

announcements at the Daily News tab:

Attendance

If your student will be absent from school for any

reason, please contact the office. To ensure the

absence gets recorded in a timely fashion, please

contact the office before 9:00 am. The most

efficient method of contact is via email or text to

[email protected]. You may also call the office at

306-873-2352.

Notifications to parents/guardians. You will

receive them. We will not block phone numbers.

The philosophy is that as a parent, you are

required to know if your student is absent from

school and in the event of an emergency, the call

will reach the intended targets. In the event of a

bus cancellation or late arrival, students will not

be excused unless a parent contacts the school to

excuse them.

School supplies

https://www.nesd.ca/School/tmss/parents/Pages/

Supplies.aspx We would like to remind parents

and guardians that they are responsible for school

supplies and regular replenishing of school

supplies throughout the year if the student runs

out. That includes personal earbuds/headphones,

calculators, pencils, pens, etc.

Reminder: the office does not supply spoons or

forks for personal lunches or snacks. Please

provide your own. It is recommended that

students keep some in their lockers.

Christmas Dinner

Christmas Dinner information and sign up will

come out in October.

Please check off and sign the GRAY Privacy

Consent Form. It too is due back at the office on

Monday, September 9th at 9:00am.
