Students in grades 5th through 8th grade attended the annual Middle School Winter Dance. This year’s theme was Valentine’s. After some hard work on behalf of our Student Ambassadors, the decorations were set and the playlists were ready to go. While the music played, students performed their best dance moves while others enjoyed complimentary snacks and pizza. This year’s Middle School Dance was the highest at-tended in school history with over 70 students attending. “I had a really good time,” said 8th grader Jhaylen Cotton, “the decorations were awe-some and the music was on point.”

As part of the 2018 National Engineers Week celebration, The University of Toledo College of Engineering invited our students and teachers to partici-pate in their “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” event. The purpose of the event was to encourage female students to explore the field of engineering and to learn about the variety of career paths an engineering education offers. Mid-dle school girls and staff were thrilled to meet professors and professionals in the engineering field as well as enjoying hands-on activities. Mrs. Leininger, technology teacher and chaperone of the field trip said, “The girls were blown away by how many opportunities there are in the engineering field.”

Our 11th graders recently prepared and took the ACT (American College Testing). The ACT test is the nation’s most popular college entrance exam accepted and valued by all universities and colleges in the United States. The ACT is based on what students learn in high school and provides personalized information about their strengths for education and career planning. Before taking this exam, students were treated to a special scrumptious breakfast. “I was a little nervous the morning of the exam,” said Jae-Vhon Johns, “but after we were treated to a huge breakfast, I really felt like my teachers cared about me. I felt more comfortable and it helped me be at ease during the test.”

FAMILIES LEARN THE BENEFITS OF COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS

HEARTS WARMED AT V-DAY FAMILY DANCE

Parents and their students recently attended the College Credit Plus Informa-tion Night. During this meeting, parents and students learned that the College Credit Plus program offered by the University of Toledo in partnership with HSAT, gives high school students the opportunity to earn college credit and high school credit simultaneously. By taking college courses in high school, students get the benefit of starting the transition to college early and reduces the cost and length of time to receive a degree because the earned college credit can be applied toward college graduation requirements. Ms. Mossing, K-12 Vice Principal of Academics, said, “It was a thrill to see so many of our students and parents excited about college and their future success.” For more informa-tion on College Credit Plus, please contact Ms. Mossing. This program is open to students in grades 7-11; the deadline to apply for next year is April 1, 2018.

K-4 teachers, students, and family attended the Valentine’s Day Family Dance. While enjoying the music, fellowship, and dancing, guests were treat-ed to a Sweetheart Sundae Bar with other snacks and refreshments. Mean-while, our Jaguar family took some great shots at the photo booth equipped with fun and festive props. Fourth grader, Kieonna Ross, said, “I asked Mr. McClellan last year if we could have a Father Daughter Dance -- and finally this year I got to come to a dance with my family. I had a great time!” With our K-4 Family Dance, every student now has the opportunity to attend a school sponsored dance. HSAT can’t wait to host this event again next year!

TALENT SHOW PERFORMERS WOW THE AUDIENCE

Students and staff recently had the opportunity to show-off their awe-some abilities in dance, vocal, and instrumental performance at the an-nual HSAT Talent Show hosted by our friends at Cedar Creek Church. Under the direction of Mrs. Kinsey, students practiced all month long in preparation for the festive event. This year’s show had a special twist with staff performances including a dance routine from Mr. Glover and a “Dancing Through the Ages” mu-sic video performed by our awesome choreographed and performed by our K-12 teachers. “All the performers did an awesome job,” said Rebecca Baker, sophomore, “I especially loved Amilee Youngblood’s beautiful dancing.”

“It was a thrill to see so many of our students and parents excited about college and their future success.”

“I had a great time!”

Our Jaguar Family recently visited Ohio Skate for Family Skate Night. All the way from kindergarten through 12th grade, students, their families and staff took a break to roll around on the rink. For some, such as senior Tatianna Vargas, it was their first time skating. “The staff at Ohio Skate were so helpful to me,” said Tatianna, “They helped me learn some basics and made sure to stay with me incase I fell over which definitely happened a few times.” HSAT’s next Family Skate Night is April 17 from 6-8pm at Ohio Skate off Alexis Road. Admission is $5 and part of the proceeds benefit our athletic program. Please consider coming to our next Skate Night -- bring the family!

THIS IS HOW OUR JAGUARS ROLL

Mr. Glover is our Jaguar Teacher of the Month for Febru-ary. He has been a math teacher at Horizon Science Acad-emy Toledo for the past six years. He went to Scott High School right here in Toledo and attended the famous Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. While he’s not teaching students the importance and power of math, he’s dancing and performing all over the Toledo area with the Toledo Ballet, Toledo Repertoire, and the Croswell Op-era House. He says his favorite part about being a Jaguar at HSAT is “the family that we have created. It continues to grow and strengthen each year.“ Thank you, Mr. Glover for being an awesome teacher and an inspiration to us all.
