CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to those students who received the sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion in May. A special blessing on all the children and their families during these important periods in their young lives. Many thanks to Fr. Paolos and Fr. Henry for offering important messages of Faith and Responsibility to the boys and girls. As well, much appreciation goes out to all the Catechists from St. Wilfrid Parish who prepared the children for these important days. Thank you parent Council for your support as well.

WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN Welcome to all new JK students and their families who joined us on the evening of May 26th at Welcome To Kindergarten. Parents and children had an opportunity to meet the Full Day Kindergarten Team and engage in some useful activities that will be very com-mon once September arrives. The evening was a large success.

SEPTEMBER ORGANIZATION OF CLASSES When the children return to school in September, a tentative class and grade organization will be in place. However, it is important to understand that due to a possible increase or decrease in enrolment, changes may need to be made in grade organization, teacher as-signments, and the placement of children during the month of September and early Octo-ber. If changes are required, then the principal will ensure that the various abilities, needs and interests of the children will be taken into consideration on order to ensure that each class will have a variety of experiences, strengths and needs.

SUMMER MATH

Pool parties, picnics, and cookouts are all fun summer ac-tivities to look forward to. If your child has a fun event coming up, start a countdown. This lesson is two-fold — it'll work on her time-telling skills, and it'll help pass the time until the event. For example, if she has a friend's birthday party coming up in four days, ask her how long that is in days, hours, and minutes. You can even start a countdown for each of these. Her excitement will grow as each countdown winds down to her special event! For more fun summer math activities visit familyeduca-tion.com

IVY GREEN

On Tuesday May 3rd, we saw a very good play about nature and the earth from Little Red Theatre Compa-ny. What we enjoyed about the play was the acting and the visual effects like the lighting. The main mes-sage of the play s to always try and do good things for the earth, like picking up garbage and keeping parks clean. The cast is very good at what they do and I found it very nice to see the show.

JUMP, JUMP….JUMP, JUMP…. In April students and staff Jumped (and Hooped) For Heart. Since 1956 the Heart and Stroke Foundation has raised and invested more than 1.39 billion dollars in heart disease and stroke research. These impressive results are made possible by the donations from families such as ours. The St. Jerome Community raised a total of $2724.55 for this wor-thy charity. Congratulations to our top raisers: Letizia Chang, Liliane Chiavaroli and Ales-sandro Lavalle. These students received special prizes for their exceptional results.

WAY TO GO TEAMS! Congratulations to our Chess Team and Girl’s Soccer team. Both did well at recent tourna-ments. Our girls soccer team are divisional champs. Good luck at the next round.

CSAC (CSPC) CORNER As we quickly approach the end of yet another productive school year, we are truly blessed and thankful for all that has been accomplished. St. Jerome staff, students, our parents, and St. Jerome community, I sincere-ly thank you for your continued support. A special thank you goes to Mr. DiDomizio (Principal), Mr. Patel (Vice- Principal) and Ms. Talarico (Teacher Representative) for their dedication to our school and commit-ment to CSPC by supporting our many initiatives. We were fortunate to continue Scientists in the School for the 4th consecutive year! We were very successful with our initiatives this year because of the commitment of our parent council and other parent volunteers. As a result, we were able to fund dances, trip allowances for all grades, Grade 8 Graduation and Kindergarten Celebration, Scientists in the Schools, a Healthy Living evening, seating for the playground, Play Day, Carnival, Santa Claus’ visit and agendas to list a few. I would like to thank our parent volunteers that make up CSPC, Daniela Mazzone (Vice-Chair), Sheryle Corpuz (Treasurer), Darlene Real (Secretary), Pina Marchione, Louisa Rosati, Catherine Trespeces, Ales-sandro Garofalo, Connie Mazzone and Adriana Aviles. As I sign off for the year, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your CSPC Chair for a fourth time. It was an honour and pleasure indeed. Our CSPC annual general meeting will be announced in September. I wish each and every one of you a safe and blessed summer. God bless, Ashley Sawh, CSPC Chair

FORE!!!! On April 27th, our school learned how to play golf. The instructor taught us how to hold a golf club. Our class chose our groups of three and we learned the 3 main shots in golf….the putt, the chip...the pitch. If the instruc-tor yelled fore, we had to duck. This is how you warn someone that a golf ball is coming. We had lots of fun. We can’t wait to play golf again. (By: Airee, Alyssa and Karleigh, gr. 4)

GO NANA GO! Congratulations to grade 5 student Nana Awuah . She was our lone representative at the City Track and Field Meet this year. Nana made her way to the City’s by placing first in the divisional and regional meets earlier this month. As Nana put it…”At least I know that I am the 8th fastest 11 year old female runner in the city.” Well done Nana!

WOODBINE FESTIVAL 2016 On May 6, the St. Jerome choir performed at the Woodbine Festi-val along with a few other schools. We sang “Song of the Cross” and “The Climb.” People gathered around and started to clap, dance and sing even more when we sang “The Climb”. Our choir had a spectacular performance thanks to Ms. Hoffman. It was a fun festival and a great experience. (By: Karleigh A. Sawh Grade 4)

WE ARE PROUD OF YOU! A quick snapshot of our recent Primary Pride Award Winners. In May we recognized all students who demonstrate School Spirit and those who show Compassion. Congratulations to all! Parents are always welcome to join us at these assemblies.
