SCHOOL NEWS ICAS No more payments for ICAS tests will be taken. Nude Food - Every Day! Beginning Week 8 (20th March), Epping North Public School will begin encouraging Nude Food at school every day, particularly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday when the canteen is closed. To support this initiative the Environment Monitors would like your children bring in “Nude Food”. Nude food is food that has no plastic wrappers or packaging. Consider packing sandwiches, fresh fruit and vegetables etc in reusable containers. Please make sure all plastic containers are labelled with your child’s name and class, lids and bases. Also consider purchasing larger bulk foods and sending smaller portions for recess and lunch. Remember that soft plastic packaging can be recycled at Coles and Woolworths stores along with plastic bags. It unfortunately can not be recycled here at school. The REDcycle Program is a supermarket-based recycling program that invites consumers to gather together all their empty bread, cereal and frozen food bags, plastic and reusable shopping bags and other flexible plastic packaging and take them to their nearest Coles and Woolies drop off points. The Environment committee are extremely concerned about the environment and are doing this so we can help sustain

the Earth and keep Epping North clean.

To encourage and reward nude food the Environment Monitors have voted to give children a green VRP if children bring

a lunch box that contains no plastic wrappers. These VRP’s go towards a class prize K-2, and 3-6 each week in assem-

bly. VRPs will also be awarded in the playground for recycling clean brown paper bags on canteen days.

Rubbish affects marine life, such as turtles and native animals that are around our school such as possums and birds. Rubbish takes up most of the Earth’s landfills, so participating in Nude Food will help. We look forward to your anticipated support. Kind regards, K-6 Environment Monitors and Mrs Colburt

Which soft plastics does the REDcycle Program collect? The rule of thumb is: if the plastic can be scrunched up into a ball, it can be placed in a REDcycle collection bin. Examples of acceptable plastics include: bread, pasta and rice bags, cereal box liners, biscuit packets, frozen food bags, ice cream wrappers, squeeze pouches, plastic sachets, bubble wrap, cling wrap, chocolate and muesli bar wrappers, silver-lined chip and cracker packets, confectionery bags, fresh produce bags, netting citrus bags, polypro-pylene bags, plastic film from grocery items like nappies and toilet paper, courier satchels, newspaper and magazine wrap, sturdy pet food bags, plas-tic bags from boutique/department stores, large sheets of plastic that furniture comes wrapped in (cut into pieces the size of an A3 sheet of paper first) If you're curious about whether an item can/can't be recycled using RED-cycle, and it doesn't appear on the list above or in its FAQs, ask them in an email.

COLES SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS

The school is participating in the Coles Sports for Schools give away. If you shop at Coles, please collect the vouchers and send them with your children to be placed in the collection box situated in the office foyer. Thank you very much for your support. Micheal Taylor Assistant Principal
