Year 5 Leadership Day and Prefect Elections
Last Wednesday, our Year 5 students had the opportunity to build their leadership capacity when they
participated in our Leadership Day. Students engaged in a series of workshops to develop a greater
understanding of what makes a good leader and how to develop those qualities in themselves. Part of this
day involved students and staff nominating Year 5 students for the prefect election. Thank you to Mrs Harris
for facilitating such a great day of learning.
Prefect speeches and the election of 2020 student executive took place yesterday afternoon.

Operation LPS Play Space Upgrade!
As you are aware, the next major combined P & C/School project will be an upgrade of the fixed play
equipment space near OOSH. We received a lot of Play Space design entries with students having the
opportunity to have a say in what the new play space will look like. Well done to our students who were
selected to participate in the design workshop with professional landscape designers from Urban
Landscape Project – such amazing collaboration and sharing of ideas! Thanks Mrs Rainford for assisting our
students at the workshop.

1/4 cup coarsely grated fresh uncooked beetroot
1/4 cup coarsely grated carrot
2 tablespoons grated tasty cheese

Chess Club
Last Tuesday an elite team of
three chess legends: Malachi P.,
Olivar A. and Lincoln S. spent the
day at St George Leagues Club to
participate in the Junior Chess
League One-Day Chess Team
Tournament.
There were 16 teams from
6 schools that participated in
7 rounds of chess, played on
three boards simultaneously.
Throughout the tournament our
team was always in the top half of
the leader board and by the end of
the day we came equal fourth and
through to the state level
championship. At state we came
39 out 40 which we were very
proud of given the calibre of
players we had to verse.
In weeks 4 & 5, Garno enjoyed hanging out with 6 H and the rest of the
school as we went about our very busy days ‘learning’ in the classroom,
playing safely and being respectful at the mini fete and PSSA. He even
enjoyed attending our whole school assembly on Friday in Week 4.

2D: What was your favourite activity?
Garno: Woooooof! [translation] the parachute and dancing!!!
2D: Even better than winning bingo?
Garno: wooofy![translation] Yes! Even better than winning bingo!
2D: We hope you enjoyed your time with us, sorry we didn’t give you any personal space.
Garno: Grr, woof, woof [translation] That’s ok, luckily I love hugs….
