TERM 2 WEEK 6 Tuesday 2nd June 2020 COMING UP ON OUR SCHOOL CALENDAR JUNE 5th Virtual Assembly 8th Public Holiday 29th School Photo Day JULY 3rd Last day of Term 2 Principals Report Last week, almost all MPS students and teachers enjoyed the first full-time face-to-face teaching in class groups, since the end of Term 1. It is wonderful to have a full school again. I am very proud of the way every child has returned to school and engaged with their education. It is also great to see all our students catching up with friends and making new acquaintances straight away. I am also equally impressed at the way our teaching staff have embraced the conversion from on-line lessons back to face-to-face teaching. One important point for all of us to be very aware of is that, if your child is unwell with any sickness, as has always been the rule they are to stay home until they have recovered. It is a mandatory requirement that parents/carers inform the school via a note or a phone call to the Office or teacher. If your child or any member of your family is tested for Covid-19, please inform the school as a matter of urgency. The school will also need to be advised as soon as the results (whether positive or negative) are back from your healthcare professional. All and any information is of course strictly confidential. We are still actively employing the use of hand sanitisers and extra hand-washing, and enhanced cleaning procedures continue at school every day. Thanks again to parents for responding so positively to the Parent Pick-up Points and socially distancing while you are waiting for your children. Usually at this time of the year, we would be planning to invite our families into school to attend our annual School Athletics Carnival. Of course, due to social distancing rules, we cannot invite families in. It is vitally important to get back to regular routines, so we will be running our Athletics Carnival via age and class groups over the next few weeks. Events will take place most days, and we are encouraging all our students to participate in as many events as possible. Good luck to all our students to have a go and enjoy the races. Hopefully this time next year, planning for our usual Carnival will be in full swing, bigger and brighter than ever. ~ Principal - Anthony Buckley NOW ACCEPTING KINDERGARTEN 2021 ENROLMENTS Please call our front office on 6568 1800. TERM 2 WEEK 6 Tuesday 2nd June 2020

COMING UP ON OUR SCHOOL CALENDAR

29th School Photo Day

JULY

3rd Last day of Term 2

Principal’s Report

Last week, almost all MPS students and teachers enjoyed the first full-time face-to-face teaching in

class groups, since the end of Term 1. It is wonderful to have a full school again. I am very proud

of the way every child has returned to school and engaged with their education. It is also great to

see all our students catching up with friends and making new acquaintances straight away. I am

also equally impressed at the way our teaching staff have embraced the conversion from on-line

lessons back to face-to-face teaching.

One important point for all of us to be very aware of is that, if your child is unwell with any

sickness, as has always been the rule they are to stay home until they have recovered. It is a

mandatory requirement that parents/carers inform the school via a note or a phone call to the

Office or teacher. If your child or any member of your family is tested for Covid-19, please inform

the school as a matter of urgency. The school will also need to be advised as soon as the results

(whether positive or negative) are back from your healthcare professional. All and any information

is of course strictly confidential.

We are still actively employing the use of hand sanitisers and extra

hand-washing, and enhanced cleaning procedures continue at school

every day. Thanks again to parents for responding so positively to the

Parent Pick-up Points and socially distancing while you are waiting for

your children.

Usually at this time of the year, we would be planning to invite our

families into school to attend our annual School Athletics Carnival. Of

course, due to social distancing rules, we cannot invite families in.

It is vitally important to get back to regular routines, so we will be

running our Athletics Carnival via age and class groups over the next

few weeks. Events will take place most days, and we are encouraging

all our students to participate in as many events as possible. Good

luck to all our students to have a go and enjoy the races. Hopefully

this time next year, planning for our usual Carnival will be in full

swing, bigger and brighter than ever.

Attendance Matters Starting this week, our office staff will be contacting families whose children have had 3 or more

consecutive unexplained absences. Please remember if your child/ren have a day absent from

school for any reason, you will need to contact the school to explain why. This can be done via

phone, email, reply to our Absence Text Message service or note to office/teacher. This must be

done not later than the first day your child returns to school.

Irrespective of the reasons why students are absent from school, the evidence is clear – non-

attendance affects student outcomes in profound and significant ways. The effects of non-

attendance are cumulative and if they begin in the early years of schooling, they persist into

future years. As a result, early attendance patterns, particularly in pre-school and Year 1 of

compulsory schooling, are vital. In particular, unauthorised absences are strongly associated

with compounding declines in achievement and engagement. The table below is an example of

how just one day absence a week can profoundly affect your child’s education.

Students in 4/5 Mauve are finding out the

importance of being 'good' in a bad way. The

students have been busy this week reading the first few chapters of the book ‘The Bad Guys’

by Aaron Blabey. Each chapter they read they

learn that there are no characters in books

that are bad, they are just in the wrong place

at the wrong time. The learning goal for this week was to create a simple comic strip that

showed each of the characters doing good by

putting their own slant on how to rescue a cat

from a tree. The comic strips the students

designed were both creative and very entertaining and our class hopes that you enjoy

reading a sample of some of the most creative

stories.
