Dear Parents,

PREPS learn about CELEBRATIONS! The Prep students have been learning about ‘celebrations’ and how different families celebrate different things. Mrs Kovas brought in some of her giant size celebration inflatable items to share with the students - the students were very impressed!

GROUNDS WORK

Over the last week grounds work that was scheduled to take place in term 2 and 3 of this year have finally been

able to be completed. We have had a spectacular shade sail erected near the pond and seating area for children to

benefit from. A synthetic grass area with built in games has been constructed in the courtyard between the Prep

and Year 1 classrooms. Concreting works have been carried out in the driveway, around the new shed and in the

courtyard. The students are very keen to play in the new areas.

2021 STAFF and CLASS PLANNING Over the last few weeks we have been working on the 2021 class structure and now we are looking at student placement. The process is a complex one. Firstly, we identify our estimated enrolment and then look at the numbers in each year level to develop a class structure. Teachers work in their teams to develop preliminary class lists. They consider a number of factors when developing these lists; including academic growth, special skills and talents, social competencies, gender, students who work well together and those who may not work well together. Skills needed for ‘building new relationships’ are an important part of our educative process, however please note that friendship groupings are considered. Parent input, based strictly on student learning needs, is also considered. Parents occasionally place requests for teachers. Please be aware that this facility is not available for a number of reasons. For instance, teachers may leave the school or they may be deployed to other year levels or roles in the school. The ultimate responsibility for student and teacher allocations rests with the Principal. Our school processes are most comprehensive and professional with decisions always made in the best interest of our students. APPOINTING NEW STAFF The school leadership team have been involved in appointing new staff over the past few weeks to replace staff who are taking leave for 2021 or who have gained positions at other schools. I will be putting out the class teaching positions in the final newsletter of the term. Children will find out their teacher for 2021 in the last week of this term. Reports will be sent home on 17th December via Compass. We are unable to produce student reports before this scheduled time. COVID SAFE SCHOOL – DET Easing of Some Restrictions: As mentioned above, yesterday (25th November), the Department of Education and Training eased some school restrictions. The water fountains are now permitted to be operational again and students are now permitted to play in more areas other than the area that was their designated year level bubble area. These changes will come into effect from Monday. Unfortunately, some restrictions on Prep Transition visits and Gr 6 Graduation still remain. Small group visits for our newest members of PPS will occur on Wednesday 9th November. Our new Preps for 2021 have their third and final Webex sessions with the Prep teachers on Tuesday 8th December. This week we also conducted our Prep 2021 parent information session via Webex. This year due to COVID restrictions, the Grade 6 Graduation Ceremony will be conducted in the school hall and will be conducted in line with the DET latest operational guidelines, thus it will be a staff (limited numbers) and student event only. It will follow the format of previous years, however, the event will be live streamed to parents. The students will enjoy some fun activities after the graduation ceremony and have an opportunity to participate in an outdoor disco to conclude the evening. Thanks to our fabulous Year 6 staff for organising this event for our exiting students. In addition, a Year 6 end of year excursion will now be able to take place. We will inform parents of school operational changes over the next few days via COMPASS. Karen Jenkin Principal
