Previous Results

During the 2016-2017 school year for the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 8th periods our

overall disciplinary referrals decreased from previous years.

The increase in discipline referrals during the 6th period of the 2016-

2017 school year is contributed to students returning from break. After

rules were taught and re-taught student behavior referrals decreased

each quarter thereafter.

The decrease in student fights during the 2016-2017 year can be

contributed to small group counseling where students learned social

skills and how to effectively resolve conflicts.

School DataSchoolwide disciplinary referrals decreased by 10 from the previous year. This was due to the increase in small group counseling. Focusing on individual student needs to help decrease less desirable behaviors.

Page 18: Principal: Pete Johnson - Shelby County Schools · Grahamwood Elementary School-wide PBIS Plan (Discipline Plan) 2017-2018 Principal: Pete Johnson 3950 Summer Ave. Memphis, Tennessee

School DataA large decrease in school fights last year as compared to the last two years. This can be attributed to an increase in small groups conducted by the professional school counselor and the school social worker. Teachers make referrals throughout the year. Groups are created as needed to meet all student needs.

Page 19: Principal: Pete Johnson - Shelby County Schools · Grahamwood Elementary School-wide PBIS Plan (Discipline Plan) 2017-2018 Principal: Pete Johnson 3950 Summer Ave. Memphis, Tennessee

School DataLast year the number of overall suspensions for our school was .5% which increased by .2%. However, we plan to decrease the total number of out of school suspensions by referring students to ISS. This program was added to our school to ensure that students are in school each day. This will also be a way for us to re-teach the PBIS system and rules to students who continue to have infractions.

As part of a professional development activity in the first nine weeks of school, the teachers will reteach school rules on a weekly basis.

Teacher must teach and reteach rules after an extended school holiday (when students are out more than 2 days for a school holiday)

The school counselor and principals will hold an assembly within the first week of school to teach each grade the school rules and expectations as well as attendance policy

Each teacher is required on a daily basis, in the first three weeks of school, to review the rules, routines and rubrics for their class. The counselor will visit each class to review/reinforce rules and Code of Conduct and also with all new students.

In the remaining weeks of school, teachers are required to review the rules, routines, and rubrics at least bi-weekly.

Teaching Rules, Behavioral Expectations, and Procedures

Define the Expectation:

Be Respectful in the cafeteria

Provide a Rationale:

This expectation allows students to finish their lunch and have time for

socialization.

Demonstrate Appropriate Behavior

Eat your lunch; clean your area; and use restaurant voices.

Demonstrate Unacceptable Behavior

Talking and not eating your lunch; leaving trash on the table or floor;

and/or yelling across the cafeteria.

Practice telling the difference with multiple examples

Teachers can practice cafeteria expectations prior to bringing their

class to lunch. This can be done through role play activities.

(i.e. Stay in your seat unless you have permission by someone of

authority. Eat your own lunch.)

How will this skill be maintained?

The administration and the cafeteria monitors will award the classes with

Recognition in the cafeteria and treats for the entire class.
