FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK October 2018 Newsletter
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Primary Years Programme (PYP):
Grade 5 End of Unit Celebration: End of Unit Celebrations are an interactive and
informative way for students to share their knowledge and accomplishments
with parents and peers. This special event conveys student learning, while
visitors are able to get a firsthand look at their growth and progress. Students of
grade Five celebrated their learning under the Trans Disciplinary Theme Sharing
the planet and showcased their understanding of the different biomes and the
fragile nature of various eco systems.
Grade 4 End of Unit Celebration: Grade Four transformed the PYP block into a
kaleidoscope of colour when they celebrated the cultures from different parts
of the world under the Trans Disciplinary Theme –How we express ourselves.
They displayed how our differences should be celebrated and building bridges
to obtain deeper understanding of other cultures will promote peace. This event
also showcased their various competencies in music, dance and drama.
PYP Inter House Quiz: The PYP Inter house General Knowledge Quiz was held
on 12th October 2018. Our young eagles from all four houses participated
showcasing their knowledge in current affairs, sports, science etc. Students of
Orion house won the challenge.
Mufti Day and Dusserah Celebration: October is a month of celebrations in India
and our Grade Two students put up an informative assembly that showcased
the mythological stories of India and how different parts of India celebrate the
same festival in unique ways. The students also reiterated the IB learner profiles
and attributes such as empathy, commitment, respect etc that is at the core of
this colourful Indian festival.

Environment Club: Our Whole Education programme ensures the holistic
development of every individual in the school. The PYP environment club started
as an effort to bring students closer to nature and develop a sense of wonder
and respect for all living things. In the month of October, students planted and
harvested fresh Fenugreek (methi) leaves and distributed it among students and
teachers. They also set up a donation box, the funds from which will be donated
to ResQ.

Environment Club
Middle Years Programme (MYP & IGCSE):
Academics: MYP and IGCSE completed their first formal end of unit and mid-
term 1 tests in the month of October. A detailed feedback along with reports
for parents and students along with teachers was ensured during the first
parent-teacher meeting conducted this month.
Grade 10 attended the leadership camp this month at the new leadership
campsite in Kanakkpura and came back with wonderful memories of time
spent in the outdoors. The syllabus focus and the timetable for the half yearly
exams was released for Grade 10.
The PSAT for Grades 10 and 11 was conducted successfully on the 24th of
October. 25 students from Grade 10 attended the PSAT exam this month.

Laptops will now be introduced for students from Grades 6 upwards to
facilitate greater student-centric learning in the class. Managebac has been
introduced as the new information management system at school this term.
Substance Abuse workshop: The MYP and IGCSE students attended a
substance abuse workshop in the month of October. The topics focused upon
by the school counselor and the Head of School revolved around dealing with
peer pressure, addictions related to gaming and excessive social media usage,
the danger of unsupervised medication, the functioning of the brain and
nervous system along with the impact on the same due to addiction.
Special Assembly: A special assembly felicitating the students who returned
victorious from the IBSO games was conducted by the Principal on 29th of
October. Special mentions of outstanding student achievements in other
activities as well as academics was acknowledged and appreciated.
For the 2nd of October, MYP students of Grade 8 conducted a ‘visit to the past’
campaign for MYP students through a special assembly.
Celebrations:
Mufti day was celebrated on the last day of school welcoming the festival of
Diwali and celebrating Halloween at the same time. Students supported the
Orion house CAS project through mufti day.
The children’s day celebrations will include a host of inter-house competitions
next month. These were introduced to the students in a special assembly on
the 31st of October. House masters have invited participants to submit their
names for the various events.
A taekwondo demonstration by Kukkiwon taekwondo academy was held at
school as art of the Indian Korean festival being conducted in the city for PYP
and MYP Grades 6 and 7.

Grade 10 Leadership Camp
Diploma Programme (IBDP):
Academics: TOK essay camp for Grade 12 was held from 23rd to 26th October.
Students unpacked the titles with their supervisors and had an intense 4 day
camp, exploring different possible examples and perspectives which are going
to be integrated in their essays.
A formal mentor-mentee meeting was conducted in the month of October for
Grade 12. Mentors have compiled their observations and the action Plan for
the students which will be shared with the parents by the mid November.

Parent Teacher Meeting was held on 13th October. The primary discussion was
to go through the academic and whole education performance of each child in
the first reporting cycle.
Leadership camp for Grade 11- first batch was held from 15th to 19th October.
Cultural Exchange Programmes: The Danish Cultural Exchange Programme
was initiated in the month of October. We had eight students from Rungsted
Gymnasium, Denmark visiting our school from 6thOctober to 20th October.
Students were not only introduced to IISP campus and the academics but were
also involved in exploring the Indian heritage and culture through their
homestays with Indian families and their field visits to places like Aga Khan
palace and Shaniwarwada.
IISP students from Grade 11 visited Rungsted Gymnasium, Denmark from 20th
to 3rd November, accompanied by their CAS Coordinator.

Core Values: 12 IISP teachers visited the Snehalaya foundation on 6th October.
The team was introduced to the history of Senhalaya by the representatives-
Mr Markad and Ms Joyce. The team visited Snehalaya Rehab Centre and the
English Medium School followed by Caring Friends Hospital and Research
Centre, which caters to the needs of HIV +ve patients. They also visited
Balbhavan and Anamprem. The last stop for the day was at Snehankur
Adoption Centre.

The objective of the visit was to have a first-hand experience of how the core
values- Love, Empathy, Discipline and Respect are being lived by the volunteers
at Snehalaya Foundation. In their own words, IISP visiting team mentioned “It
was heart-warming to see the wonderful volunteers who devote their personal
time to various Snehalaya projects, whether it be the individual who selflessly
spends hours on-call in the wee hours of the night listening to the trauma that
individuals in our community have suffered, or those who dedicate their time
in educating our community and bringing more awareness to the cause.”
We look forward to see how as a school we can also be a part of the wonderful
cause and can evoke the same values in our students.
Special Assembly: A special whole school assembly was conducted on 26th
October to felicitate Ms Sandhya Phalak and Mr Chirstopher Paul on
completing 10 years of service at IISP. We also distributed the awards and
medals won by our students at various sports event and also felicitating Aditya
Gomatam of Grade 11 on his brilliant performance in IGCSE grade 10 exams.
Diwali and Halloween were celebrated at IISP with a Mufti day for the entire
school on 31st October, a special potluck for the teachers and a Halloween
themed Socials on 27th of October for the Boarders.

Activities:
• CULINARY CLUB
Our young eagles are testing their culinary skills with the culinary teacher Mr.
Dhruv. The students are not only taught various cuisines but are trained in
basic aspects of cooking example chopping, dressing, serving and hygiene
maintenance.
• INNOVENTURE COMPETITION:
In this month our students along with all the other competitions happening
had participated in the Innoventure competition 2018. In this total of 68
students had participated across from PYP grades 4 and 5 (28 students) and
MYP (40 students). This competition’s round 1 was conducted in school under
our teacher’s supervision. We are waiting for the results for round 1, qualified
students will be eligible for round 2 which will be a telephonic interview.

Boarding:
The month of October saw a plethora of activities which included movie
outings, socials, garba night and rangoli making. It was heartening to see the
enthusiasm and collaboration of students in all the events.

Sports:
• The International Board School Sports Organization (IBSO) has organized
Inter School National Basketball under17 Boys competition hosted by Jayshree
Periwal International School, Jaipur on 11th-14th Oct, 2018. Our Basketball
team competes against 16 schools participated and showed impressive
performance and secured Runner Up position. Our hearty Congratulations to
all the Boys. Practice hard, Keep it up!
• The International Board School Sports Organization (IBSO) has organized
Inter School National Tennis under14 Girls competition hosted by Pathways
School, Noida on 15th-18th Oct, 2018. Our Grade 8 student Naiza Dhoble
displayed her skills and potential towards tennis and secured Third Place.
• The International Board School Sports Organization (IBSO) has organized
Inter School National Badminton under17 and under19 Boys & Girls
competition hosted by Cathedral Vidya School Lonavala, Pune on 25th-28th
Oct, 2018. Our Badminton under19 Boys team competes against 9 schools
participated and showed impressive performance and secured Runner Up
position.
• We are happy to announce that our School under19 Boys Football team
Participated in the ‘Eagle Cup’ organised by Indus International School,
Bangalore on 29th & 30th Oct, 2018 and competed against 8 schools and
secured Runner up position. Also our Badminton under 19 Girls team displayed
their potential and secured Runner Up position.
• Whole education lessons, students were involved in specific strength and
endurance training to their respective sports.
• In MYP PHE, Grade 6-9 students have started second unit and exploring
themselves through Badminton and Soccer. Also students are exploring their
knowledge through anatomy & physiology, Sport injuries & rehabilitation units.
• PYP PE lessons were introduced. The Grade 1-5 students were involved in
different sports activities as a part of PYP PE learning football, Basketball,
Minor games, team building activities and fitness agility drills.
• Reception and Prep1 students explored with Obstacle course, Throwing and
Catching activity. The objectives of these activities were to develop fine and
gross motor skills such as Walking, Jumping, Running& Balancing movements.

• Prep 2 students explored themselves through team play which is integrated
with their 1st unit of enquiry ‘Who We Are’. To understand this unit children
were taught about sharing, fair play, discipline, responsibility and safety.
Students were also involved with team building and ribbon exploration unit.
• A special assembly was organized to felicitate the Sports achievement
awards of IBSO National Contestants.
