We offer two different types of non-fiction packs to support the primary science curriculum. Top-up packs are small packs designed to refresh your collection on a curriculum topic. The core science packs are larger packs that include books from across the topic range – perfect if you require more generic coverage or if you’re updating the science collection in your library.

As it is a crucial theme linking many science topics as well as other primary curriculum subjects, we also offer key stage specific packs for the human body. For schools embracing a creative curriculum whereby core themes are taught in different curriculum areas, the science-themed fiction packs include a small selection of texts that cover scientific concepts.

Our themed and genre packs are mostly smaller selections based around popular subjects, genres and themes.

• Award winners – predominantly fiction titles that have won or been shortlisted for a prestigious literary award. We also have separate Carnegie and Greenaway packs which contain only books that have been recognised for these awards

• Black, asian and minority ethnic (BAME) authors – made up of mostly fiction titles, this pack supports the teaching of diversity and inclusion, and can be used as a tool to help inspire children from different backgrounds, encouraging them to have high aspirations for the future

• Inspirational women – topic support to help teach pupils about the lives of significant women in history. This pack contains a mixture of fiction and non-fiction titles

• Peters' picks – these are made up of the books that our specialists really love! They range from newly published material to older books that are still enjoyed today

• Picture books core collection Key Stage 1 – a selection of key titles that we feel every school should own to help develop a love of reading in the younger years

• Social stories – fiction titles covering issues that individual children may relate to, for example how to behave, parental separation and friendship

• Picture books for older readers (including wordless) Key Stage 2 – picture books continue to play an important role as children move into Key Stage 2, along with wordless books which encourage children to use their imagination and become more creative story-tellers

We understand that all children have different abilities, and some pupils may struggle with reading and need more specialised texts.

Our sensory book pack is ideal for those who take a more kinaesthetic approach to learning. It consists of a range of texts, including tactile books with pop-ups, flaps, sound buttons and patches to feel in order to stimulate the senses.

There are a number of books that have been produced especially for children with dyslexia. Our dyslexia-friendly pack contains a selection of these books and includes those with coloured pages, bold, clear text and those that are broken down by using illustrations.

Our HiLo packs are aimed at pupils whose reading level is significantly lower than the average for their age group. These books contain simplified text and a range of presentational features to engage struggling readers, yet still cover topics and themes that are relevant to their interest age.

We are fully aware that some pupils are perfectly able readers but are very difficult to motivate to pick up a book. Our quick reads packs are targeted at these reluctant readers and contain a mixture of short fiction and non-fiction texts that should appeal to their interests. If you have reluctant readers with any specific interests please let us know and we will offer a bespoke selection.

FAQs

How many books will I receive in my pack? The approximate number of books you will receive is mentioned in the pack’s description. We can’t tell you exactly how many books will be included because we pick each pack to order to ensure that you receive only the best, most up-to-date books. Obviously, prices vary so we need to keep things flexible to make sure you’re getting the best titles to fit your students’ needs.

I can’t find a book pack that suits my needs exactly, what can I do?We offer a bespoke selections service to help solve problems such as these. Just call 0121 666 6646 or email [email protected] with a quick outline of your requirements, and we will create a selection for you without delay.

Also, our book packs are always growing, and we would love to hear from you with ideas for new ones! Please let us know if you have an idea for a new pack.

Can I get a list of the books I will receive in the pack before ordering to avoid duplicating my existing stock?Unfortunately, due to the nature of how the packs are put together, it’s not possible to see a list of the books included before purchasing. If you would like a list made up that you can amend, you can take advantage of our bespoke selections service.

If packs are ordered across more than one age group, there may occasionally be some duplication of titles in low publishing areas, although we obviously strive to avoid this as much as possible.

How do I arrange for the books in my pack to be jacketed and labelled? Please select servicing as normal when you place your order. There is a section in the orderform where you can select your servicing preferences. Servicing incurs additional cost.

Will I only receive paperbacks? We aim to provide the best books currently available for your needs and although we will always choose paperbacks in preference to hardback books, by necessity, some packs will include hardback editions in order to give your students the most appropriate and effective range.

Can I return books from my book pack?We have every confidence that you will be delighted with the selection you receive. However, due to the way the packs are administrated it is, regrettably, not feasible for us to offer returns or swaps of titles supplied.
