TERM 3 Week 10
15th September 2016
PRINCIPAL’S DESK:
MRS MOORE’S RETIREMEMT
After a long and distinguished teaching career, the last twenty seven years at Templeton, Mrs Moore will retire
tomorrow. Annette was initially our Art Teacher and more recently a member of the Art Department with Mrs
Jelley. Whilst a strong advocate of children always striving for their best, she has brought innovation and creativity
to our Art program. Her involvement and leadership of the Technology Challenge will remain a legacy of Annette’s
work at Templeton.
I am sure everyone will join with me in wishing Annette a long, safe and happy retirement.

PRINCIPAL’S DESK:
CHINESE ASSOCIATION OF VICTORIA
On Saturday 3rd September I accepted an invitation from the Chinese Association of Victoria to attend their Mid
Autumn Moon Cake Celebration. Together with two of our groups, the Chinese Drummers and the Chinese Fan
Dance team, we shared the annual event with our Chinese School neighbours.
My thanks to all of our children who attended and performed so well representing Templeton. Thanks also to the
parents who assisted with the transportation and a special thanks to Mrs Lin and Mr Miao who coached the
children throughout the year.
STAFF ON HOLIDAY
We have a number of staff who are currently on leave and journeying to destinations throughout the world. Mrs
Raines is currently in Italy with her family, Mrs Miller in Japan with her husband, Mrs Lin in London with some
friends, and Mr Fernando in New York all to escape the winter chill.
To all of our overseas staff we wish you an enjoyable break and look forward to your return for Term 4.
STATE SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR
After what seems an eternity the State Schools Spectacular was held last weekend. Our team have been working
extremely hard under the guidance of Miss Jenkinson to ensure they were ready for the Victorian Government
School’s extravaganza. By all accounts our 17 (16 in Massed Dance and one in the State Schools Spectacular
Choir) students were a credit to the school and their families for their performance and the manner in which they
conducted themselves.
My sincere thanks to Miss Jenkinson, Mrs Hynes, Mrs Grasso and Mrs Wood who ensured our children had the
opportunity to perform.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MRS WHITBY
Congratulations to Josh and Alana on the safe arrival of their
little girl Olivia Grace.
Here’s a lovely photo of Grandad Terry McConnell with Mrs
Whitby and his grand-daughters Ava and Olivia.
Have a wonderful holiday everyone, and to our families that are travelling during the break I extend to you my
best wishes and look forward to your safe return on Monday 3rd October.

CHESS UPDATE
On Thursday 1st September, six students represented Templeton at the Open Primary Regional Chess
Tournament held at Great Ryrie Primary School. The students in attendance were Dylan C (Grade 2),
Cheng L (Grade 4), Kevin Z (Grade 5), William Z (Grade 5), Daniel D’M (Grade 6) and Sanjay R (Grade 6).
All the students performed exceptionally well throughout the competition and even came away with 3
individual gold medals (Dylan, Cheng and William) from their respective age groups.
These fantastic results also led to Templeton topping the overall leader board on the day and coming
away with another trophy to add to the ever growing cabinet collection. We would like to thank Wayne
Guy for supporting and coaching the students throughout the year and on the day of the tournament.
We are now looking forward to and preparing for the State Chess competition to be held on Monday 24th
of October at Kingswood College.
Go Templeton!

What a fabulous night was had by everyone at the Grade 2 Performing Arts concert on Wednesday! The children entertained
us with songs, dances and instrumental performances and I know the audience was impressed with their skill and talent. Con-

supported this event. Everyone went home feeling proud and happy!
