Wow, straight from IRS to WHS. I appreciate the patience that pitchers have shown me these past months during tax season. I did not have the time that should have been afforded your publication. This is indeed your publication, not the Officers’ publication, not the National’s, but yours. This is the piece of paper going to every horseshoe household in the state that gives you an opportunity to be heard. Lend your voice, and let us hear from you.

You will notice an abundance of tournament results in this issue of Shoe Biz (beginning on page 8). As I typed the names of winners and places, I was struck by the names of some who were pitching strongly earlier and are not pitching now, or even more dramatic, are no longer with us. Time is fleeting; do what is important to you and love those nearest to you. Have you registered for the World Tournament in South Carolina? Are you gaining more horseshoe experience for said competition by pitching in local leagues, local tournaments, and state-sponsored tournaments. By the time you will read this, the Club/Team World Championships will have crowned another championship team. If you did not participate, you missed an opportunity to share with pitchers from across the

state, an opportunity to practice for the World Championships, and an opportunity to raise funds for MOHPA.

If you didn’t make it to the NHPA World Tournament, or even if you did, the next “biggun” is the State Fair Tournament organized by Jim Kinney Jr. It is always a great fun time for pitchers and spectators. If you like the smell of sawdust, barns, and—even better—corn dogs, cotton candy, kettle corn, and drinks, this is the place to be. Enjoy good pitching and wonderful people watch-ing. Complete the enclosed entry form, and we will “See you at the Fair.”

The third piece of the trifecta is the State Tournament, which is always on Labor Day weekend. Wentzville will host this year’s event. Rich Altis and crew have been working hard to make this one bigger and better. If you have not made your room reservation(s), you need to hurry. This is a big travel weekend; don’t miss out because you put things off.

As I stated in the first paragraph, this is your paper, and we love to hear from you. This is a chance to recognize those who made this publication possible—Ron Highley, Victoria Highley, Mel Bruem-mer, Gregg Craven, Nancy Gunter, Savanna Johnson, Jeanette Claas, Jim Kinney, Donna Bastel, Jim Bainter, and Rich Altis.

We are planning a few things to promote the sport. Contact me, and I will let you know how you can help with the promotion. We never turn away helpers to run this event. If you are interested in helping and have not talked with me, please e-mail or text me. I will respond as soon as possible.

The Missouri State Fair is a great time whether you are a pitcher or a spectator. A lot of things have been planned by the Missouri State Fair Committee to promote family outings, including Special Contests. Every day, there is a kids’ contest at 2:00 pm at the kids’ stage and an “On the Spot” contest at 6:00 pm for everyone. You must check in 10 minutes before contest times. If you are interested in anything that is going on during the time you are attending the

fair, visit mostatefair.com for a complete schedule of “Come Home” contests and events.

The Missouri State Fair Commission is excited about partner-ing with the Missouri Horseshoe Pitching Association to host this event. This is a time for families to have a good time and establish fond memories to cherish in the future. So “Come Home,” and we will see you there.

From My Court to Yoursby Jim Bainter, MOHPA Secretary/Treasurer

Summer is finally here, and the early leagues are enduring all the Cold, Wind, Rain, and Heat that

Missouri has to offer. I’m starting to see more renewals and a few new pitchers. Our current membership numbers are at 553 adults and 58 juniors. We ended last year at 610 adults, down from 670 in 2016. We’ve got a long way to go just to meet last year’s numbers. I encourage each of you to start talking with neighbors, coworkers, and friends to get them involved in horseshoes. A little cheap fun and exercise through the summer months should interest them. Perhaps just asking them to come to the courts during a league or tournament may be the incentive they need.

The entry forms for the State Fair Tournament and State Championship Tournament are in this issue of Shoe Biz (pages 11 and 17, respectively). As usual, the forms ask whether you want to receive a copy of the entrants/lineups. If you have an e-mail address listed in the official records, I will only send you an e-mail copy. If you don’t have an e-mail address, but can have a friend or family member print the document for you, it would be appreciated. Making and mailing copies costs MOHPA money and takes time from preparations for the tournaments. The lineups are always on the mohpa.us website a week or two before you would ever receive the mailed copy.

The 2018 MOHPA Awards Banquet ticket order form is also in this issue (page 15). This request can be mailed with your State Championship Tournament entry form. Save a stamp. Tickets will not be mailed. A roster of attendees will be used for check-in when you arrive at the Trigg Banquet Center. NOTE: The original dinner price was $25. The Quail Ridge Horsheshoe Club tournament team has graciously decided to pick up $5 of that cost to compensate

pitchers for their participation in the tournament and the awards recognition dinner, so sure to thank them. Please join us and help make this awards night the best ever as we recognize our pitchers and their accomplishments.

There have been a few problems on the final league and tour-nament reports. One had two bogus numbers that were sent to NHPA. Two had the wrong pitching category and a last name misspelled. If you need numbers, please call me and complete your report before submitting it. I believe we are finally getting the is-sues with names corrected. I send out HSMaster profile updates every 2 to 3 weeks. If you import it regularly, you will always have the correct information. If you are a tournament director and are preparing for a tournament by importing the NatStats web page, you only need to get the percentages. By downloading the names, you may get erroneous spellings due to bad league inputs that got passed on to NatStats. Beware.

On a final note, there will be 16 indoor courts and 16 outdoor courts available for our State Championship Tournament at the Quail Ridge horseshoe arena. The MOHPA officers will make every effort to maximize the use of the indoor courts and minimize activity outside. I know we can’t accommodate all pitchers inside, but we are committed to making your participation in this year’s State Championship Tournament as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Last ShoeFrancis Griesbauer

March 30, 1929 – April 25, 2018

By Jeanette Claas

Francis Griesbauer, of St. Paul, Missouri, passed away on April 25, 2018, in the hospital at 89 years of age and was buried in St. Paul Cemetery. Francis was feeling well and had gone to his son’s house to help him work on a car about a week before his death. While there, Francis slipped in some mud, fell, and hit his head. His son took him to the hospital to have him checked out. While there, Francis suffered several mini-strokes and never came out of it.

Francis was born in St. Charles but resided in St. Paul all his life. He was married to his wife, Clarita, of 57 years, until she passed away in 2017. They had one son, Jay, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Francis worked the night shift for General Motors for more than 28 years until he retired in 1988.

Francis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He said he never received any medals, but says he was wounded several times when he was thrown out of taverns. He was a member of the American Legion Post in O’Fallon.

Francis began pitching mule shoes as a young boy with family members on the farm. The name Griesbauer is a familiar one in the sport of horseshoes, as many of his relatives participated in the game. He joined the New Melle Horseshoe Club as a charter member in 1990. He then began pitching with the Quail Ridge Horseshoe Club in 2007. He pitched in the Men’s Wednesday Night League at New Melle and at Quail Ridge. He also pitched in the Monday Night Mixed League and in many other tourna-ments held there. Once he moved to 30 feet, he became quite a competitor. Several times in the night leagues he would pitch 23 ringers out of 26 shoes, averaging 88% each game. He carried an average of 55%.

In May 2013, Francis underwent open heart surgery at the ripe age of 84. He bounced right back and soon reappeared on the courts. After 24 years of membership, he ended his horseshoe career at QRHC in 2015 due to health issues. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and pitched in that horseshoe league at St. Paul for more than 25 years.

Francis says he enjoyed pitching every game he ever played. He loved the competition and all the friends that he acquired through-out the years. He earned many trophies and awards in many events to prove all that he accomplished. He was inducted into the St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

He was about the nicest man you would ever meet. Our sympa-thy is sent to his son, Jay, and family, and to his brother Vernon, a member of the QRHC. A cousin, Bob Griesbauer, is also a member of the QRHC. Francis will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Augie Dudenhoeffer Jr.September 28, 1937 – April 6, 2018

By Mel Bruemmer

Augie Dudenhoeffer, Jr., passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 80 years of age. He was married to Delores Thuli on October 18, 1958. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. Augie was a faithful member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He enjoyed the outdoors: boat-ing, hunting, and fishing. He was a sports fan and participant, especially basketball and volley-ball (he was captain of the family volleyball team Augie’s Doggies). Augie is survived by his wife of 59 years Dolores, two sons Pete and Keith, one daughter Valerie, and seven grandchildren.

Augie was a charter member of the Capital City Horseshoe Club. He played frequently in sanctioned leagues and tournaments with the club. He also played in many non-sanctioned charity events throughout the years. Augie had two signature features as a horseshoe player. He was a very determined competitor, and he always wore his signature coach’s shorts. In his home one could find displayed Augie’s trophies, plaques, medals, and certificates. Highlights of Augie’s horseshoe pitching career include the 2005 Missouri Class L State Champion, 2006 Senior Men’s Class B State 2nd place, 2006 Knights of Columbus State Doubles Class C 2nd place, 2008 Knights of Columbus State Senior Men’s Doubles 4th place, and 2013 and 2015 CCHC Summer League Champion.

Some direct quotes from Augie’s obituary follow: “His favorite sport by far was pitching horseshoes. He has won many trophies, but really treasured all the nice people he met and played against during the tournaments in which he participated.” “He also spent many hours watching his children and grandchildren play basket-ball, soccer, volleyball, violin music performances and art exhibits. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Augie had a very special love for Jesus Christ and the Blessed Mother Mary. His family is very happy that he is now resting peacefully in their warm loving care and protection.”

The Capital City Horseshoe Club will honor Augie with a memorial brick at the Hall of Fame in Wentzville, Missouri. We miss this pillar of horseshoes in the central part of the state.

Mark Snead, For Kids Only!by Jeanette Claas

In Missouri, at the National Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame facil-ity, the Quail Ridge Horseshoe Club has plenty of activity going on, but we have a fairly new member of 5 years who has added something new. Mark Snead is a man on a mission! He loves kids and he likes to see them having fun.

In 2012, Mark retired after 34 years as a maintenance worker with the Florissant-Ferguson School District. Mark is a grandfa-ther of four, ranging from 2 to 6 years old. He says they are a little too young to start pitching shoes, but he has high hopes for their future years.

Upon retirement, Mark took his family camping at the Lost Valley Campgrounds, where he saw some guys pitching horseshoes. For a very small fee, he joined in and enjoyed the game very much. It was his first time pitching horseshoes. After a few weeks back home, his wife Debbie advised him, “Either go back to work or take up a hobby!”

Mark lives in O’Fallon. He heard there were outdoor horseshoe courts at Quail Ridge Park where he could get a little practice. There happened to be a mentor in the building. It was a slow day for Rich Altis, who was hosting inside the building. Rich looked outside and saw Mark pitching. Rich invited Mark to come in and gave him some tips about horseshoe pitching, and Mark had found himself a new hobby!

Beginning at the very bottom, he was anxious to start being competitive in tournaments. He noticed that there were kids pitching against grown-ups in some of the classes. He also heard some grumbling about this situation. It seems that the smaller kids didn’t really care to pitch against the “big kids,” either. (Let’s face it; there is a lot of intimidation on both parts.) So Mark came up with the idea of having a tournament “for kids only” that would make everyone happy. It is a great idea, but where do we begin to find enough kids to fill a tournament? Mark began asking the other QRHC members about their children grandchildren and asked other pitchers from out of town whether they would be interested in bringing their kids and grandkids to Wentzville for a tournament. Before long, he had 28 kids signed up for his first “Future Youth Champions Tournament” in February 2016. To make the game more fun for the kids, he gathered up old trophies and put new plates on them so that every kid would get a trophy, win or lose. Then he and fellow QRHC member Dee Null bought

T-shirts for all the kids with their names printed on them. We don’t make any profit from cadet/junior tournaments, so Mark went to businesses, restaurants, and theaters looking for sponsors. He successfully raised enough money to meet any expenses that he incurred. His goal is to hold four tournaments each year, in February, October, November, and December. As long as there is interest, all 16 courts are filled with juniors and cadets; you will find Mark leading the way.

The youth tournaments are held after the adult tournaments on Saturday; they begin at about 5:00 pm and take several hours to complete with the help of some of the club members and the parents. We have electronic scoring at the facility, and the kids love to see their name on the monitors. There have been some very exciting games to watch. Most of the boys and girls are local, but we have some very talented kids coming from all across Missouri. All are anxious for some friendly competition and of course, they are more anxious to win. Are the kids having fun? Are the parents and grandparents having fun? You bet!!

Mark knew nothing about horseshoes when he joined the QRHC, he just knew the idea was to “get the shoe around the peg.” This has been a learning experience for him and for the QRHC. He says that some of these kids are better pitchers than him. Mark knows that today’s kids have many organized sports to choose from, but he wants to give them the opportunity to enjoy the “game of shoes.” What separates the game of horseshoes from other sports is that it is an individual sport and gives a kid a chance to excel by himself or herself.

We are all thankful that Mark’s wife told him to “go back to work or get a hobby.” He made the right decision to take up a hobby, like horseshoes. Debbie has developed an interest herself and is even keeping score for us. The QRHC brought a real team player into our club, and the kids are very grateful, too. Mark has been a valuable and helpful member of our club and received the Presidential Achievement Award in 2017 from MOHPA President Ron Highley.

We hope to see some of the kids as they grow in horseshoes to become more competitive and participate in the World Horseshoe Tournament. The Missouri State Championship Tournament will be held at the NHPA facility this Labor Day Weekend, and we are hoping to have a big turnout for the Junior and Cadet Divisions.

The Capital City Horseshoe Club has been rained out, snowed out, and frozen out. It has been a real challenge to get anything done with the crazy weather. We finally were able to have our first event on April 28. The tournament was a great success, as Washington Park was filled with horseshoe pitch-ers. Complete results can be found in the results section. We had five junior/cadet players in the tournament.

We were proud to present National Top Ten awards to three CCHC members: Leon Wolken, Steve Johnson, and Roger Reeves. Our spring league (what spring?) had to be cancelled. This was a first for us and very disappointing to the 18 players who were looking forward to it. Our summer league will begin June 5 at 6:30 pm. We look forward to a great time on the courts each Tuesday evening. James Driver and Steve Johnson of the CCHC quali-fied for the Hall of Fame Tournament. They both performed well above their seeding, with 7 wins and 8 losses. Congratulations to them!

CCHC will have six members traveling to Beloit, Wisconsin, for Team World. Our usual contingent of six will be making the trip to the World Tournament. We are looking forward to them bringing home some nice trophies to show off. We were able to bring home the championship of the MOHPA Club/Team State Championship tournaments in 2016 and 2017. We are going to be represented by at least three teams again this year in our attempt at a three-peat.

We lost a founding member on April 6 when Augie Dudenhoef-fer passed away (see Last Shoe, page 4). The Club will honor him with a brick at the Hall of Fame.

Finally, we would like to encourage everyone to sign up to pitch at the State Championship Tournament hosted by the Quail Ridge Horseshoe Club at the Hall of Fame courts. They need your sup-port; this is a big undertaking. You can best show your appreciation by entering and joining in the fun. Help them break the all-time attendance record!

Good news from Keith and Laura Johnson. Their grandsons Nico and Gabriel, who were in Children’s Mercy Hospital at the same time, are both home and doing bet-ter. In other good news, Diane Kiser will likely have a new kidney soon. She was probably a little early but has already pitched a few shoes.

We finished our winter leagues in March, although it felt like winter went into April. The League Champions were Chuck Volpi and Mark Miller for Monday and Charlie Baker and Mark Miller (not a misprint!) for Tuesday. Most Improved Awards went to John Kiser and Keith Johnson. The East came over and beat us again (44-25), but it was still good to have them here.

We had 13 juniors pitch in our Juniors Only Tournament on April 28. You can find the results at www.mohpa.us. We had three Novice players who weren’t listed: Addisyn Goddard, Brett Furner, and Joel McClelland. Look for them at the 20-foot line soon. Mark your calendars for the 5-day Junior League, August 6-10, at 9:00 am at Stocksdale Park.

We finally got our league going after the cold late spring we had. Three cadets are returning to our league, two of whom received national Top Ten Junior/Cadet awards in 2017. Memo Ramirez placed 10th in high point game over average, and Warren Highley placed 9th in high point game over average, 8th in high ringer game over aver-age, 5th in high ringer game, 5th in high point average, 4th in high point average, and 3rd in individual high ringer average. These two participate in two mixed leagues at Peculiar and in the Junior Liberty league.

We will be sending six members to the World Tournament this year: George Chichura, Ralph New, Ron Highley, Victoria Highley, Warren Highley, and Memo Ramirez. Both cadets have been pitching well and have a chance to make the championship rounds in the Cadet Division!

Please keep club members Cheryl New (surgery) and Lawrence Loney (brain tumor) in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with these health issues.

Our first tournament is in the books, with two more to go: our Peculiar Memorial on June 9 and ‘Tween the States on August 18. After our first tournament, George Chichura, who is around 80 years young, was going to look at a motorcycle. Say it’s NOT TRUE, George!

There was a wee bit of miscommunication for the February issue of Shoe Biz, and it is only appropriate that we make our thoughts known with this issue. In February, I was awaiting the start of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Every 4 years, our top athletes participate in competition with the rest of the world. Unfortu-nately, horseshoes is among several sports (bowling is another) that do not make the cut for the world spotlight.

On the upside, the NHPA offers a yearly competition in the World Horseshoe Tournament, at which anyone at any ability level can compete if he or she chooses. Let us all do our best to get out and recruit new members to help keep this sport alive. I went through a drive-thru one night, and the young millennial in the window asked me what NHPA stands for. It took me a minute to figure out why he had asked, but then I realized it was on my jacket. We should all wear a hat, shirt, jacket, pin—anything with some

sort of horseshoe insignia—because they will ask, and we should be prepared to share.

Nothing much happened at the Independence Horseshoe Club this past winter. Several members took advantage of the warm inside courts at the Harris Arena in Liberty to pitch fall and win-ter leagues and tournaments. Our area has great opportunities to pitch year-round, if you choose to do so. Even though we missed the snow bull’s-eye this winter, we were not spared the deep freeze. I for one am enjoying the spring colors and consistently warm temperatures.

The Independence Memorial Tournament was a huge success this year. Forty-eight pitchers participated, and the competition was tight in some classes. Classes E, G, and H each had a three-way tie for first place. A tie for 2nd place in Class B was broken by ringer percentage (a difference of only 0.50%.) 2nd place in Class C was tied not only in win/loss but also in ringer percentage; therefore, the tie-break came down to who beat whom.

We had a new election of officers for 2018. Our president is Pam Bailey; VP/Tournament Director, Keith Johnson; Secretary/Treasurer, Nancy Gunter; League Director/Statistician, Sandra Couch; Tournament Concessions, Becky Anderson; and Grounds-keeping Chairman, Dennis Bailey.

We had the opportunity to host the Corporate Challenge event in April, and five of our current members found success. Sandra Couch, Lee Miller, and Dennis Bales won gold medals, Becky Anderson won a silver medal, and Yvonne Hanson placed a re-spectable 7th place. We also gained a new club member from the Corporate Challenge event. In total, we have five new members pitching this summer. Perry Mann

Sadie and Leon Wolken are both very active kids, and we are very grateful that they have had the time to pitch with us for the past 2 or 3 years. In addition to horseshoes, they both play basketball and softball/baseball; Sadie even plays volleyball and shoots archery! They are great pitchers and great kids to pitch with, and just as we do with many of the other Junior Pitchers, we adults love to watch them grow up loving the sport.

Sadie is in 5th grade, and her favorite subjects are math and science. When she grows up, she wants to be a veterinarian! Sadie says she pitched horseshoes with her grandma and cousins at the lake during the summer, but really got interested after practicing with her dad and brother. She has been pitching with the MOHPA ever since. In Sadie’s first tournament, she pitched 4.5%. At the State Tournament last year, she had 7%, and her tournament high is 9.16%! Sadie’s favorite part about horseshoes is getting to learn new things and make new friends. We can all agree with that!

Leon is in the 8th grade, and his favorite school subjects are math and religion. When he grows up, he wants to be an electri-cian and a volunteer fireman. In June, he plans to join the Junior Firefighters of the Osage Fire Protection District. Leon has been pitching for 3 years and actually got started when his grandpa was getting ready for the Knights of Columbus horseshoe tournament. He started practicing with his grandpa, who thought he was pretty good and convinced Leon to join the Capital City Horseshoe Club.

In 2016, Leon won the Cadet’s Missouri State Championship with a 44.6% average! In 2017, he moved up to the Junior Boys division, but still took home the win with 39.4%. Leon says his favorite part about pitching is meeting new people and winning (of course!). He also wanted to give a shout out to James Driver and Steve Johnson, to whom he is very appreciative for their pointers in making him a better pitcher. If you get a chance to pitch with these great kids someday, make sure to tell them how great they are doing. See what they’re up to! You just might want to join them!

Moving? Let Us Know!If you move, please send your change of address to our Secretary, Jim Bainter, at 31870 Sunset Rd., Gravois Mills, MO 65037. Your help in keeping our mailing list current would be appreciated. Thank you!

Don’t throw me away!Keep me for future reference. I am full of useful information.

We would like to shine a special spotlight on our youngest mem-ber, Madisen Gwinn. Madisen has made some wonderful achieve-ments in the few years she’s been pitching. Madisen started pitching with us in 2013. She was my partner her first year; we went on to be club champions that year, and she became our Rookie of the Year. Madisen has pitched in many local, State, and World tourna-ments. She has been a local tournament class champion 8 times. She was the Missouri State Champion in 2013 and placed 2nd in 2014 and 2017 and 4th in 2015. She has placed 6th twice at the NHPA World Tournament and has received an NHPA Sanction Club Top Ten award three times. We are proud to have Madison in our club and look forward to her future endeavors.

Before I sign off, I want to acknowledge the loss of one of our long-time mem-bers. Perry Mann passed away on January 8. Perry was an IHC member for many years. For the past several years, it was hard to miss him in his flores-cent shirts and matching shoes.

State Tournament Updateby Rich Altis

The Missouri State Tournament is fast approaching, and this is the final issue of Shoe Biz before the State Tournament. If you would like to buy an ad in the program book, now is the time. While you’re reading this and thinking about it, grab your checkbook and business card and slip it in the mail. You can also design your own ad. A business-card size is only $25. The rest of the sizes (and prices) are shown in the next column. We can blow your business card up to the size of a truck!

Our major fund raiser for the tournament will be on June 16, 2018, from 10 am to 5 pm. It is sponsored by Schicker Auto in Union, Missouri. They will donate $20 for each licensed driver 18 years of age or older who test drives a car or truck, up to 300 drivers. One of our horseshoe pitchers works at Schicker Auto and assures us there will not be any pressure to purchase a vehicle. If you feel you’re too far away to do the test drive, feel free to just drop us a check for your $20. We thank you in advance! After your

test drive, feel free to stop by the local park, pitch some shoes, and have some refreshments.

We need your participation in the tournament, your ads, and your attendance at the Banquet and Awards presentation. We have managed to get the cost of the banquet tickets down to $20 from $25. Of course, we’ve had to remove the meat and bread to cut costs, but veggies are always good. JUST KIDDING!! The banquet menu and ticket order form are located on page 15 of this issue of Shoe Biz.

There is a lot going on and great places to visit in St. Charles County and City and in St. Louis County and City. Check into the various things that might be of interest to you and your family while you’re not pitching. At the tournament, we’ll have goody bags for each family as well as raffles, 50/50s, and door prizes each day. Also look for our concession specials.

Remember that our Club has horseshoes and horseshoe-related items for sale, so plan ahead and pick up what you’ve been looking for at the tournament and save shipping costs.

We hope to see you at the tournament. The 2018 tournament committee thanks you.

2018 Officer ElectionsBy Ron Highley

The Offices up for election at the State Business meeting in September are the Directors of Zones 1 and 4, Statistician, and President. The incumbents in that order are Michael Gillespie, Danny Williams, Stan Griggs, and Ron Highley, and all have indicated that they will run for re-election.

Anyone interested in running for any of these positions can find the job descriptions on the MOHPA website. The election will be held during the business meeting at the State Tournament on Friday evening at the Host Hotel, the Comfort Inn and Suites of O’Fallon. The officers will take office on November 1 of the year in which they are elected and serve a term of 2 years.

2018 Membership ApplicationMissouri Horseshoe Pitchers AssociationNational Horseshoe Pitchers Association

The NHPA card is a combined membership in your state and national horseshoe pitching associations. This card entitles you to participate in NHPA-sanctioned play throughout the United States and much of Canada, wherever you meet the entry requirements for the event. You must pay your dues through the state charter where you maintain legal residence as determined by voting, tax, and/or drivers license laws. Dues are based on the calendar year. New members may pay next year’s dues after October 1 of the current year and will be eligible to participate in sanctioned events the final 3 months of the current year, as well as all of the next year.

As a member of the Missouri Charter, you will receive Shoe Biz three times a year free of charge. This will keep you informed of events within our state. Our statistician will be recording your pitching stats from all sanctioned events and will be forwarding these stats to the NHPA stats headquarters, called NatStats. These stats are updated weekly and can be accessed through either the NHPA or the MOHPA websites. To make all of this possible, your NHPA card will have six digits followed by two decimals. Missouri is region 19, followed by four digits, which are your number. The two decimals represent the calendar year. The decimal and color of the NHPA card change each year. Your number will remain with you as long as you reside in Missouri and continue to maintain your membership. If you ever lose your NHPA card, the charter secretary will issue you a duplicate card free of charge. You need only notify him.

Please fill in all information on the form below that applies to you and mail the application and total amount of dues to the MOHPA Sec/Treas. (address below) Please make checks payable to: MOHPA.
