An innovative organisation The tourist trade in Nendaz is managed by two entities : Nendaz

Tourisme SA (NTSA) and a ‘Société de développement’ (SD). The

first is an incorporated company and the second is an association.

NTSA manages the promotion, marketing, communication and spon-

soring; the SD concentrates on the tourist information, entertainment

and administration.

If for legal reasons these two entities have been separated, in every-

day life they are in fact very closely linked. Firstly, they share the

same director, Sébastien Epiney. In addition to this, they are located

under the same roof in the same building as the tourist information

centre in Haute-Nendaz. Last but definitely not least, the staff work

in tight collaboration with each other.

NTSA was established in 2002. At that time, the creation of an incor-

porated company to manage the local tourist trade was extremely

innovative. And today, Nendaz is often cited as an example with

regards to the elaboration of the new tourism law. This manner of

working has proved to be efficient: it allows everybody concerned

with the tourism branch to share a common vision for our holiday

destination and encourages a certain amount of synergy.

A dynamic resort During the winter, thanks to its ski domain, its good value for money and its friendliness, Nendaz is a much loved holiday destination amongst the Suisse and guests from abroad. The period from May to October is also very pop-ular: wide-open spaces, sunshine and fresh air await our guests. The feeling of accomplishment you can experi-ence on the mountain summits is difficult to find else-where. Lac Noir (Black Lake), the larches of Balavaud, Mont-Fort (3330m) ...are accessible to all thanks to the lift system. Nendaz is among the 21 destinations in Switzerland to be awarded the « Families Welcome » label by the Swiss Tourism Federation. External independent experts regu-larly evaluate our trade partners along with ourselves, which guarantees that our services answer to the needs and the wishes of visiting families. We look forward to being able to count upon our tourism trade partners’ dynamic attitude towards new investments and renovations. The resort’s development has also moti-vated new businesses to set up, which in turn also adds to the destinations attractiveness. Certain services, like the free ski shuttle busses, have been added in the interests of our customers. The first work sites are in progress to improve the heart of the resort. There is no end to the private and public projects in process, they should all lead to a spectacular development over the next few years. For the time being, Nendaz proposes a wide offer, sign of its drive. As well as being in the heart of one of the big-gest ski domains in Europe, our tourism trade partners offer numerous alternatives to skiing. There is no lack of pleasures in wining and dining as Nendaz boasts over 30 restaurants of high quality where it is possible to savour local specialities and international cuisine. Regional dish-es, Italian, French, and Mexican cooking can tantalise your taste buds. Evenings can last late into the night in over 16 bars and nightclubs. A convenient location and many services Nendaz is located in the centre of the Valais on a plateau looking out

over the Rhône Valley offering a magnificent panoramic view over the

Alps. Halfway between Chamonix and Zermatt, the resort is only

15 km away from the motorway, the rail and the air network towards all

European capitals.

This wonderful scenery is amplified by an incredible amount of sun-

Protection bubbles for the Tortin chairlift in Siviez

The Tortin chairlift is to be equipped, from the beginning of the winter season 2014, with protective bubbles. A

real plus regarding users’ comfort: the passengers are sheltered from the wind and the cold during the entire

ride. This installation departing from Siviez is the doorway to the Mont-Fort, highest point of the 4 Vallées

(3330m in altitude). It is also very popular with families as it gives access to a beginners’ ski run.

Ski Safari in the heart of the Valais

Nendaz is located in the heart of the Valais, a land of sunshine in the heart of the Swiss Alps, and which is

home to numerous ski holiday destinations. Our guests can make the most of their stay in Nendaz to discover

other ski resorts such as those of the Val d’Anniviers, Crans-Montana, Aletsch Glacier Paradise and the

Portes du Soleil. A special package including accommodation in Nendaz, the transfer to and from the resort, a

ski pass and ski instructor to guide them on the ski runs is available to guests. For those who wish to experi-

ence an exceptional ski excursion, it is also possible to take a helicopter ride from Nendaz (at Tracouet, at

2200m in altitude) towards Zermatt, and its legendary Matterhorn. Land directly on the ski runs and return also

via the air!

House of culture

A new gallery of 190 m2 dedicated to the culture and heritage of Nendaz, The Nînd’Art, is opening its doors

from the 12th of December 2014. Located in the old quarters of Haute-Nendaz, it offers numerous exhibitions

and events throughout the year. A collection of photos, videos and stories are also presented to the general

public in our multimedia room.

A new ****S hotel

The new Nendaz 4 Vallées Hotel is a beautiful ****S Hotel located in the heart of Haute-Nendaz’s ski resort in the well-known 4 Vallées Region. It greats more than 60 rooms and suites in a contemporary Valais stylish and also offer an exceptional Spa area of 2’200 m2, a gourmet restaurant, a typical Valais “carnotzet”, a piano bar, a funicular railway with a specific stop at the hotel, fully equipped and modular conferences rooms.

Spa des Bisses

You can find the Spa des Bisses in the new ****S hotel located in the centre of the resort of Haute-Nendaz.

With its Alpine and contemporary decor, this Spa is a chance to recharge your batteries before a magnificent

backdrop. Built on two levels, this space dedicated to water reminds us of the local natural surroundings and is

even crossed by a bisse. It is open to both hotel guests and the public alike.

One of the biggest ski domains in Europe

The legendary Mont-Fort

The 2 main characteristics of the Mont-Fort - Gentianes –

Tortin ski run are steepness of its slope and the altitude of

its summit (3330m). As opposed to most ski runs, the Mont

-Fort one is not prepared mechanically. The slope is too

steep to allow this. The preparation is limited to securing

the area around the slope after each snowfall. This particu-

larity makes this slope the only one of its kind. In winter as

in summer, the Mont-Fort is an extremely popular excur-

sion destination. Non-skiers can also reach the summit

thanks to the lift system. In fact, from this incredible view

point the most beautiful alpine mountains, from the Matter-

horn to the Mont-Blanc, reveal themselves before you. The

Mont-Fort is one of the best view points in the Alps, which

can be reached effortlessly.

400 km of ski slopes and 92 lifts Nendaz is located in the heart of the one of the biggest ski domains in Europe, the ‘4 Vallées’. With this fantastic situa-

tion Nendaz offers more than 400 km of ski runs and 92 ski lifts. Nendaz’s ski domain, unique and varied, ranges in alti-

tude from 1’400m to 3'330m. Most of the ski runs are at over 1700m in altitude and those leading back to the resort are

equipped with artificial snow canons, which guarantee high quality snow conditions from December to April. The ski do-

main is vast and extremely varied. It lives up to all levels of both skiers and snowboarders expectations. From the experi-

enced sportsmen and women on the Mont-Fort slopes to the beginners on the frozen lake of Tracouet, everybody can

find what they are looking for with runs adapted to their skiing or snowboarding capacities. Numerous mountain restau-

rants offer the opportunity to the guests to make the most of the panoramic views whilst recharging their batteries in

beautiful natural surroundings.

6 marked out and secure freeride zones

Nowhere else, can you find as many freeride zones

within a ski domain. Come and discover Plan-du-Fou,

the Gentianes, Chassoure, Mont-Gelé, vallon d’Arbi

and col des Mines. So many legendary names, which

will remain, engraved in your memory for a long, long

time. These itineraries are not maintained and des-

tined to satisfy the most experienced and demanding

of skiers.

The Wood Park brings you back to the roots of free-

style. On the Jean-Pierre run, this brand new concept

with its new unique and original modules made out of

wood await all freestyle lovers to perform their incredi-

ble moves...in style.

Everybody can discover the beautiful natural snowy surroundings at their own pace. The only sound breaking the

silence is the one made by your footsteps in the snow. A unique network of 100km of marked winter walks will allow

you to discover the magical winter wonderland and offer you breathtaking panoramic views over the Alps. The view

is also as magnificent from the ski runs : the Mont-Fort, towering at over 3300min altitude offers a panoramic view

over the Alpes,with over 20 majestic 4000m summits including the Matterhorn and the Mont-Blanc.

Other sporting activities

1 sledging run and a snowtubing run will give you hours of

fun. Take a leap and try paragliding. Breathe some fresh air

on the outdoor ice-rink. 9km of cross-country ski runs are also

available to Nordic skiers. A fitness centre and 2 squash

courts for those who enjoy some indoor sports. The Sion golf

course is close enough (15km), open depending on the

weather conditions, to be an interesting alternative.

Activities programme

Nendaz offers a weekly activities programme organised accord-

ing to 4 themes: local, fun, mountain and junior. Every week a

programme is edited for the guests in 3 languages (F, D, E) and

distributed via the local establishments. Guided visit to the old

village, tasting of local products, sledging, moonlight skiing, in-

troduction to ski-touring, snow-shoe hiking, arts and crafts or

cooking workshops, are only a few examples of activities organ-

ised for the holiday makers.

Restaurants primed in the Gault & Millau

The reputation of Loris Lathion from the restaurant Mont

-Rouge precedes him. Mentioned in numerous Swiss

restaurant guides, this comfortable, rustic, warm and

welcoming establishment offers fine wining and dining.

The Auberge les Bisses made also its entry into the

Gault & Millau in 2012: « The passion for cooking, local

products, ultra-fresh, a will to visit and re-invent moun-

tain cuisine, Patrick Fournier has everything to surprise

and fill your plate with wonder », comments the famous

guide.

...right into the night... Share your day’s experiences and relax in a pleasant

atmosphere: 16 bars and discothèques welcome their

guests in numerous atmospheres (piano bar, après-ski

bars, live music…). A wide choice of over 30 restaurants

proposes a wide range of cuisines. From Italian, French,

Mexican, local regional dishes, to fine dining will satisfy

everybody’s wishes,

Choice on the pistes

The restaurants at Combatseline, Plan du Fou and Tra-

couet offer a warm and friendly welcome at the top of

the pistes of the same name. The Cabane de Balavaud

and the Chalet des Alpes are ‘have to visit’ restaurants

by their traditional settings. If one of your favourite skiing

pastimes is spending time in the ski-bars, numerous

sundrenched terraces can offer you a relaxing moment

or a fun time with friends during the beautiful sunny win-

ter days. So, don’t miss the Tipi on the Tortin piste, the

Chottes de Novelli on the Combatseline run or the Yéti

in Siviez especially on the last run of the day.

Après-ski… party or intimate ...

The après-ski offer in the resort has been developing

over the past few years. In addition to the three well-

established ones, Cactus, Canadian Pub and Mystic

Bar, other establishments invite you to spend unforget-

table moments in Nendaz, each one offering its own

personal touch. This way you can discover Les Jeux

d’Hiver and its wide choice of beers, the « lounge » at-

mosphere of the Gariko, the Tchin Tchin piano-bar, the

sunny terrace of the hôtel Edelweiss with its concerts

and the happy hour « Cheers » the igloo shaped après-

ski bar at the hôtel des Etagnes.

Families welcome

A high value added label Nendaz has been awarded the "Families Welcome" label since 1997. This label is

granted by the Fédération Suisse du Tourisme to holiday resorts answering to certain

criteria. In Switzerland 21 resorts have acquired this label, of which Nendaz is one.

This opportunity allows Nendaz, to be included in Suisse Tourisme’s ‘family’ campaign

for the summer. This label represents a holiday philosophy and is a guarantee that the

Family activities in winter

During the winter, families benefit from advantageous conditions regarding lift passes. With its frozen lake, Tracouet is

an ideal location for children and beginner skiers. A snow garden and adapted equipment ensure that children can be

introduced to the joys of skiing in a fun and friendly way. 5 ski schools offer high quality teaching and can take charge of

children throughout the day, ski lessons from 3 years onwards, learning to ski with play… In addition to the snow activi-

ties, several other non-skiing ‘family’ activities are available: arts and crafts, board games, sledging, ice-disco, etc. A

weekly programme is edited by Nendaz Tourisme.

Family activities in summer

During the summer, a weekly children’s activities programme is organ-

ised by an instructor. A ‘Fun’ theme includes arts and crafts workshops,

archery, initiation to climbing and the ‘Robin Hood’ excursion. A

‘Regional’ theme offers guided visits of the old village and the water

mill, tasting sessions of some of Nendaz’s local produce or guided vis-

its to the mountain pastures. Finally, a ‘Mountain’ theme offers guided

hill walking excursions or sun-rise on the Mt-Fort.

Adequate services

In summer as in winter Nendaz proposes special infrastructures for families. A day-care centre welcomes children from

18 months onwards and allows parents to make the most of the varied ski domain for a day or two. A new games library

supplies numerous toys, puzzles, games and books. An outdoor play area is also available. There is also a baby sitting

service and a list of baby sitters is available at Nendaz Tourisme and an edited practical guide for families.

Walks

Sunrise at the Mont-Fort

The Mont-Fort, located at an altitude of 3330m, is the

highest point of the resort of Nendaz and offers a pano-

ramic view over the Alps. Thursday mornings in July

and August, you can witness sunrise from the summit of

the Mont-Fort. The sight of dawn breaking and the first

rays of sunshine hitting the Alps, accompanied by the

mysterious sound of the Alphorn, is magical. What bet-

ter way to start the day!

250 km of hiking trails From the Rhone valley to the glaciers, over 250km of marked walks are proposed by Nendaz. Each and every hill walker

will find an itinerary adapted to his/her capacities. From a relaxing stroll along one of the ‘bisse’ to a high altitude excur-

sion, a vast choice of outings allow you to discover a preserved nature and some incredible sites. Don’t miss the famous

Japanese Garden or larches of Balavaud (Isérables), among the largest in Europe. The Cleuson dam with its turquoise

waters offers exceptionally stunning views of the valley. Several possibilities to reach the summits without too much ef-

fort also exist thanks to the lift system.

The panoramic view footpath of Tracouet:

Much more than a simple stroll, offers games, educational information posts, viewpoint seating and other magnificent view points.

The barefoot path in Siviez: A marked footpath,

on the banks of the Printze, to re-discover forgot-ten sensations.

The pine cone path: A nature ramble to discover

the forests and the beauties of Nendaz.

The sculpture path : Exhibition of wooden sculp-

tures by the artist Raphaël Pache.

Exceptional panoramic views

Numerous sites in Nendaz offer breathtaking

panoramic views. For example the Plan-du

Fou, Tracouet, the Dent de Nendaz, the Mont-

Fort and Combasteline (along the bisse de

Chervé) all four reachable via the lift system

during the summer season. In the resort, do not

miss the Antenna and the Crétaux. Along the

most frequented paths the viewpoints have

been equipped with : panoramic view seating, photo points and other modules to be discovered …

Along the water

Water, a regional treasure

Source of life, water takes an important place in the region of Nendaz. Glaciers, lakes, dams and rivers are both beauti-

ful to visit and important to protect. Every day, thousands of people drink water from the Printse, bottled in the water

factory in Aproz.

The Bisses country

Nendaz owns a network of bisses unique worldwide. The Nendaz

region offers 98 km of walks, along the 8 ‘bisses’, of which 6 have

water flowing within their banks. The paths along these ‘bisses’ have

the advantage of being almost flat, of passing through very varied

countryside, and of supplying some extremely surprising views over

the valleys, the villages and the mountains. It is for these reasons that

these little paths make up some greatly appreciated hikes and allow

visitors to discover one of the most picturesque aspects of our region.

Walkers can follow the famous ‘Bisse de Vex’. You can reach the

starting point by bus and the return to Nendaz, about 3h30 walk, via

the ‘Bisse de Vex’ and then the ‘bisse du Milieu’ or the ‘bisse Vieux’.

There are restaurants along the way. Nendaz Tourisme provides

guests with an information leaflet containing a description of each

‘bisse’, itinerary suggestions and a detailed map.

Swimming pool

Surrounded by nature, with an exceptional alpine backdrop, the outdoor swimming pool in Nendaz, heated at 25° offers you a heart-stopping panoramic view over the Rhone Valley. For those relaxation and well-being lovers, the 4 Vallées spa is an invitation to regenerate your energy before a magnificent panoramic view.

The Cleuson dam

The Cleuson dam is an excellent hiking excursion goal especially thanks to its wonderful view over the turquoise water.

Built between 1946 and 1951, the Cleuson dam can retain 20 million m3 of water and produce an average of 70 million

kw/h per year. This dam with its reinforced 87 metre high walls 420 metres long at the top can be visited with a guide

throughout the summer.

adapted to each and every need. Sports massages, well-being or relaxing massages, beauty treatments, therapy treat-

Relaxation and discovery tours There is nothing quite like a break in the mountains to help

you relax and find some peace of mind. Relaxing in a spa,

enjoying a massage or taking a stroll around the market

town of Sion on a sunny evening making the most of the

wonderful café terraces and wide choice of restaurants.

4 Vallées spa

With its mixed Alpine and contemporary design, this spa is

an invitation to regenerate your energy before a magnificent

panoramic view. Built on two levels, this space dedicated to

the beneficial properties of water reminds us of the natural

surroundings of the region and is crossed by a ‘bisse’. Qual-

ified staff offer a wide choice of treatments in the 7 treatment

rooms for a magical moment of personalised pampering.

City excursion

At only 15 km from Nendaz is the market town of Sion. Trying your

swing out on the capital’s doorstep is a magical experience. Sur-

rounded by the fortressed hills of Valère and Tourbillon, overhung

by the terraced vineyards and dominated by the mountains, this 18

hole golf course on the edge of the town presents a varied and

magnificent panoramic view. The « dolce vità » can also be lived in

the charming old quarters of the towns and its Friday morning mar-

ket. The thermal baths of Saillon are also very close to Nendaz , at

only 35 minutes by car.

In July and August, come and discover the High-

mountain thanks to a varied and accessible itinerary.

This itinerary includes passages over the glaciers of

Tortin and Mont-Fort as well as some easy rock

climbing. This sporting activity allows the walker to

experience some very extreme sensations in total

security. Accompanied by a guide, you can familiar-

ise yourself with your environment including the al-

Discover also the climbing possibilities in the region. There are about fifteen different

climbs ranging between 500m and 3000m in altitude, with climbs of all levels.

Nendaz Fitness Park

In collaboration with Garmin Télénendaz has developed the “Nendaz Fitness Park” at the departure of Tracouet (2200m).

To keep in shape and get a great breath of fresh air 4 different trails will be at your disposal: Sprint (3.7km), Cross

(7.7km), Country (21.1km) and tophill (16km). To finish, enjoy a fitness menu at the Tracouet restaurant . Throughout

summer season a competition will allow everyone to measure their performances.

Mountain bike and electric mountain bike paradise

The mountain bike itineraries vary between 800 and over 2900m in altitude and allow you to discover the natural diversity

of the region. Beginners, as well as experienced cyclists, will find the correct itinerary according to their capacities on the

200km of tracks proposed. Those who prefer the downhill tracks can reach the summits via the lift system. There are so

many varied possibilities to keep the mountain bikers happy between May and October. 2 family orientated mountain bike

tracks leave from Tracouet. If you are tempted by a full-day excursion, you could head out to discover the region thanks

to the Tour of the Mont-Fort (tdmf.ch) or by the Tour of the Printse (tdlp.ch). There now exist mountain bike tracks

adapted to electric mountain bikes. Our holiday destination attracts numerous athletes, but it also attracts families and

seniors. Electric mountain bikes have now entered ecological tendancies. They also render mountain biking accessible to

more cyclists. They can be rented in several sports shops in the resort.

Magical contrasts From the valley floor to the mountains peaks, Nendaz is spread over 15 villages. It is our privilege to be able to offer,

over a few kilometres, these impressive contrasts, giving rise to a staircase of different countryside and different cli-

mates, of which each level constitutes a natural environment, an ecosystem with its way of life, its traditional architecture,

its flora and fauna, its rare and precious species. From its home grown fruit to its “Hérens” cow, Nendaz’ heritage is

strong willed. From May to October, several events allow our visitors to discover living and colourful traditions.

A rich heritage

Local produce

Raspberries and apricots are the uncontested stars of Nendaz’s local fruit production.

With over thirty different species, the apricot is the true ambassador of the region.

Sweet and juicy, it can be tasted when ripe, from June to September. It can be eaten

fresh but it can also be transformed into schnapps (abricotine), into jam, into syrup, or

dried. As far as the raspberry is concerned, Nendaz is the main producer of this fruit in

the whole of Switzerland. Growing at altitude is perfect as the cool nights and the hot

summer days are ideal for their development. Not many people can resist their power

of temptation.

Other specialities, like honey, dried meats, cheese or wines are produced in Nendaz.

Numerous shops offering local produce are open in the resort throughout the year.

Cheese making

Discover the secrets of cheese making in Nendaz! A visit to the village dairy is possi-

ble in the winter. In the summer, set off to the mountain pastures to meet the cow

fighting queens, participate in the cheese making process and taste some local prod-

ucts.

Combats de reines (cow fights)

The Hérens breed of cow are doted with a lively and war like character. In June, during

the ascent to the mountain pastures, they fight amongst themselves, horns to horns.

These cows are not trained to do so. These combats come from a natural instinct. The

strongest of all, the « Reine » (queen), will lead the herd throughout the summer. This

aptitude gave birth to the organisation of the « combats de Reines » in Aproz (Nendaz),

which attracts over 12’000 spectators every year.

Nendaz, the Alphorn Capital

Valais Drink Pure Festival

Every year in July, Nendaz is transformed into a Swiss folklore stage. Over one

weekend, over 100 Alphorn players meet in the resort. This enormous event

attracts over 12000 spectators and is clearly enjoyed by both our guests and the

local population.

Alphorn group

Made up of sixteen musicians, the Alphorn group of Nendaz performs during

numerous events and activities organised in the village (Easter, 1st of August,

sunrise at the Mont-Fort, New Years Eve, summer markets,…).

The Alphorn quartet

The Quartet promotes the region of Nendaz, the Valais and the Alphorn in Swit-

zerland and abroad. It actively cooperates with Nendaz Tourisme, Valais Tour-

isme and even Switzerland Tourism.

Initiation courses and advanced lessons

The local population and guests alike are invited to learn how play the Alphorn,

through numerous two-day workshops.

Entertainment «The legend of the Alphorn»

For two hours, every Thursday, it is possible to discover and try to play this fas-

cinating instrument.

The Alphorn: between tradition and modernity Over the past few years, folklore has taken its place again on front stage. It is sometimes re-visited by young ar-tistes

who bring a touch of freshness by presenting it in a fun manner. Every year in July, Nendaz is transformed into a living

scene of Swiss folklore. Over an entire weekend, over 100 alphorn players meet in the resort. In addition to the festival,

the very talented performers of the region give traditional or more modern performances during the tourist entertainment

programme activities or promotional events abroad. Alphorn lessons are also organised from May to October.

Nature and the environment

Preservation of our ecosystem Become more responsible regarding our planet begins with little actions. Nendaz is engaged in these activities with the

view to evolve towards sustainability. The destination is a member of « l’Eco-Guide des stations de montagne » (Echo-

Guide for mountain resorts), which documents all the actions that are developed. In addition, Nendaz Tourisme, Télé-

nendaz and the local authorities are labelled by Valais Excellence. Here are a few examples of our contribution to our

well-being and those of the guests visiting Nendaz.

Reduced traffic in Nendaz

5 free shuttle buses already tour the resort during the winter season. 3

shuttle buses (not free) are available to reach Veysonnaz, Isérables

and Siviez and 1 free shuttle bus is available to reach the Iles in Sion

during the summer season. A funicular linking the plaine des Ecluses

and the gondola has already been built. A council project aimed at re-

designing the centre of the resort is in progress and should be finished

in the next few years. This space should then be rendered more wel-

coming and with the pedestrian’s well-being in mind.

« Don’t throw away your litter, just your bad habits»

4 collection points are at the population’s (habitants and visitors) disposal in Nendaz. A litter collection day is organised

ever year across the ski domain. This action named « Nettoyage de printemps » (Spring cleaning) brings awareness of

what our passage can leave on our otherwise immaculate ski slopes. In all the brochures edited by Nendaz Tourisme, a

space is always reserved for a reminder to separate our rubbish.

Energy

Some of our public buildings are heated with wood burning or solar energy. The lift system company has adopted a poli-

cy to reduce energy consumption, such as with timers on light switches and movement detectors. 80 % of their light

bulbs are of ‘low-consumption’. In addition to this, all electrical machines are turned off at night. The intensity of public

night lighting is decreased during the night.
