Since my retirement from service for long 15 years I have been

holding the post of President of 'Kalyania'. The post is just an ornament.

The real ornament is rendering service to the people, especially to

people belonging to the weaker section of the society living in under

developed areas.

Without being involved in this service to people through

'Kalyania', I would not have tasted the real pleasure in life.

It gives me immense satisfaction in treating the Epilepsy patients

and sending them back to normal life in society. The satisfied faces of

the patients give me impetus to render more service to the people. My

prayers to the Almighty God give me more scope to render services to

more people.

My hearty love and good wishes to all the members, workers,

boarders and well wishers of 'Kalyania'.

Respected Dr. Banerjee, honourable members of KALYANIA and guests present in this meeting. A warm welcome to you all in the annual meeting 2016 -2017.

Kalyania started its journey in the year 1998. With all your consistent support and blessings KALYANIA is engaged in various social welfare activities. I leave it to you to judge our performances for having been able to execute our responsibilities we took over voluntarily. I personally feel blessed to have been able to devote myself to the service of the people from the inception of the Kalyania.

Apart from members of Kalyania we are lucky to get help from

numerous kind-hearted well wishers who extended their helping hands

for Kalyania. The direct and indirect support of the SDO, Kalyani, The

Police I/C, The Municipal Head and the councillor of Ward No. 9 inspired

us. My best wishes to Kalyania Suryya Kumar Roy Charitable Clinic and

the doctors and health workers who are in the service of health related,

educational and awareness projects. My good wishes to the teachers

and instructors of all the educational endeavours of Kalyania SSN School,

Kalyania Kala Kendra, Computer Training Center, Kalyania Education

Center for seniors, Kalyania Home Nursing Center and Kalyania Sewing

School. The present number of lifemembers of KALYANIA is 365.

The companions we have lost in the previous year and till today

are Late Achintya Kumar Banerjee, Biva Kole, Rajib Lochan Nayek, Amit

Kanti Sengupta and Sadashiv Chakraborty.

EDUCATION RELATED SERVICE

To spread basic education in the underdeveloped areas surrounding Kalyani amongst the children and continuous talent hunt through various cultural activities.Award scholarships to the needy and deserving children to encourage them to continue their higher studies (See Table 1).Unconventional training to the mothers and children. Adult Education.Organize Training of Sewing to girls by professionals to make them self dependent.Encourage children from the backward classes to participate in healthy cultural programme through drawing classes, Galpa Dadur Asar(story telling classes), recitation classes, song and dance classes. Sri Prasanta Sengupta, a well wisher and life member of 'Kalyania', has proposed to start a Coaching Centre for the Girl students' of class IX to class XII in memory of departed soul of his wife 'Debi Sengupta'. Action is on to secure administrative approval. It is expected that from the next session the 'Debi Sengupta Memorial Girls' Students Coaching Centre' may be started. Similarly another project for the girls from class V to VIII is on the anvil with the help of 'Asha for Education’, USA.

Last year we have given special emphasis on three projects which we are happy to inform are largely successfully initiated. The Projects are :-

A. Ladies Tailoring Training Center

B. Mental as well as health awareness programmes for the

children andC. Additional teachers for the students of Kalyania S.S.N. School

A. Tailoring Training Centre :- Under the Guidance of Shri Supriya

Paul, Shri Ashoke Baral and Smt. Kalpana Das each batch of 10 ladies is

given training in Tailoring. This training is given free and for two batches

in a year. The trained ladies are given scope to earn a living at the Centre

by giving them work. The members and well wishers are requested to

extend their helping hands in this regards.

B. Behavioural Problems of Children :- During last financial year

attempts were made in the 25% of the 50 Primary Schools of Kalyani and

surrounding areas to ascertain the behavioural problems of the children

and a work is still in progress. In the aforesaid project specialist Doctors

of mental diseases, Dr. Goutam Banerjee, Dr. Prodipta Dhar,

Psychologists Tatini Dutta, Tarun Dutta and Sabujendra Nath

Mukhopadhyay extended their helping hands at their own and

examined the students and discussed the problems with their guardians

to ascertain the problems of the students. For the successful execution

of the aforesaid work, project-in-charge Dr. Partha Pratim Dhar, Assistant

Project-in-charge Sri Biswanath De, Assistant Project Data-in-charge

Smt. Gayatri Chatterjee, advisor Professor Chitreswar Sen joined hands

for successful execution. Camps in other schools included in the project

will also be continued as scheduled.

C. Helping Study Centre for Children :- Being almost first generation school goers most of them are deprived of

any help in studies at their homes. The members of 'Kalyania' are

running a Study Centre for these children. For admission in the Jawahar

Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sri Kanchan Kumar Sarkar, a kind hearted teacher,

gave coaching to five students in the last session. This year also on

request of Smt. Gayatri Chatterjee seven students were taken up for

coaching for admission in the same Institution. In the preparatory stage,

to encourage the students, some monetary help has been given from the

Students Benefit Fund.

KALYANIA EDUCATIONAL SERVICE : - Kalyania Suhasini Sishu Niketan

has been approved by the Primary Education Section of the Government

of West Bengal but it is not an aided school. The present number of

students is 105. The leadership of Smt. Sati Choudhuri, Teacher-in-

Charge, combined with efforts of other teachers in spreading education

in the under developed areas has become an exemplary effort. In

running the school properly the help from the guardians of the students

are praiseworthy. Kalyania administration is grateful to all teachers and

staffs for running the School successfully. Some difficulties are being

faced at the next stage of approval for the School. The administration is

trying to solve the difficulties.

In the year 2016-2017, 8562 patients were treated in various Departments of medicine in KALYANIA SURYYA KUMAR RAY CHARITABLE DISPENSARY. At our DIABETIC CLINIC, enlisted patients find an opportunity to get free treatment once in a month (Last Wednesday of every month)-under Dr. S.B.Lahiri. Under Dr. S.N.Banerjee in the Epilepsy Clinic patients are receiving treatment once in a month since last 15 years. Free medicines are provided to diabetic patients as are done for like epilepsy patients. In the month of March and April 2017, Symbiosis Division of Sun Pharma company conducted an EEG camp for epileptics at Epilepsy Awareness Camp. Under the stewardship of Dr. S.N.Banerjee, the said camp was conducted by Mr Abhijit Kundu, Dr. Amit Kr. Ghosh and Mr. Sourav Pal of Sun Pharma. Dr. Anup Bhattacharya, Neurologist, made a valuable audio visual presentation in the Epilepsy Awareness camp as the Chief Speaker.

Like last year, this year also, Health Check-up Camp was organized and 89 elderly people got an opportunity to get their health checked up by physians attached to Kalyania. In the said camp, Ayan Majumder and Prabeer Jana conducted Spirometry and Runu Dey ECG respectively. Medical practitioners like Dr. (Maj. Gen.) D. K. Sen, Dr. S.B. Lahiri, Dr. S.K.Karan, Dr. Kasturi Bakshi, Dr. Tanuj Saha, Dr. Aditi Sarkar, Dr. Shibaprasad Pal, Dr. Anup Bhattacharjee, Dr. Goutam Banerjee, Dr. Pradipta Dhar, Smt. KALYANIA SURYYA KUMAR RAY AMBULANCE SERVICES is

dedicated to provide services to the people of Kalyani. This year 106

people have availed of this service. All the services rendered are

tabulated in table 2.

KALYANIA ADULT EDUCATION CENTRE : This Centre has

taken a sincere initiative to educate and literate adult people which is

giving them pleasure as they gain their confidence. Students are taught 4

days a week (3PM-5PM), in the subjects Bengali, English, Basic Math and

General Knowledge.

KALYANIA KALA KENDRA : Under the leadership of respected Sri

Panchanan Pal, Sri Harish Chandra Ganguly (Galpo Dadu) and the

teachers who are engaged in the efforts towards talent hunt among the

little students deserves special praise and appreciation. The students of

Kalyania Suhasini Sishu Niketan and the Art School are sharing cultural

stage with the students of other school in different utsavs and cultural

festivals. The role of Mrs Sudeshna Ghorai, Samita Goswami (Nandi),

Reena Roy Choudhury, Priyanka Tantubay, Sri Milan Srivastava, Sri Pintu

Bhattacharya and other teachers of the SSN is highly appreciable in

training the students for performing on stage.

WOMEN'S SELF HELP PROJECT : Kalyania has pledged for making

women, who have passed class VIII, self sufficient through Sevika

Training, Home Nursing Training and Sewing Training. Many women are

made financially self-dependent through these initiatives. In the coming

years Kalyania is trying to provide institutional recognition to these

projects.

KALYANIA MOTHERS' AWARENESS UNIT : Mothers presence in st

the Kalyania Mothers' Awareness Forum, held on 1 Saturday of every

month, deserves appreciation. With the intention to percolate

awareness in agendas related to health, social, legal, educational,

superstition, prejudice and several other topics Kalyania

invites concerned reputed Speakers to share their knowledge and

experience with members of Kalyania Mother's Awareness Unit. This

year Mr. Bibartan Bhattacharya of Chakdaha Bigyan Mancha organised a

valuable session on Science vs. Superstitions to eradicate different

prejudices prevailing in our society. I feel proud to mention here that

members of awareness unit participates every year on Republic Day

celebrations with their tableau related to different social issues. Their

efforts were appreciated by SDO Kalyani and Information and Cultural

Department, Govt. of West Bengal. This year they focussed their tableau

on “Old Age Home”.

KALYANIA OLD AGE HOME AND SERVICES TO THE SENIOR

CITIZENS :- At present there are 30 tenants in the Kalyania Old Age

Home. Kalyania is committed to provide meaningful services to the old

age home tenants against a reasonable fees. In the company of

Kalyania's well wishers, we are trying our best to make the life of the

tenants meaningful through various cultural and other programmes.

The efforts of the members of 'Bhalo Kathar Asor' deserves laudation in

entertaining and giving company to the tenants. We appreciate the

initiatives and enterprise of the boarders of Kalyania Praveenabas. At

Community Hall the members of Kalyania, Bhalo Kathar Asar and

students of all the different schools under Kalyania celebrate. Kalyania

Sharodotsav and Lakshmi Puja being celebrated for the last 5 years which

is made possible through the direct and active participation of the

enthusiastic tenants in different cultural and social programmes. The

rituals of Bhai-Phota for the boarders of Kalyania Praveenabas is also

solemnised making these festivals appear to be pictures of a family

festival.

Pre announced DAY CARE CENTRE project for services of senior

citizen could not be run by Kalyania as expected so far. In the coming

days, Kalyania will put, its additional endeavour to run the Centre

successfully.

DISTRIBUTION OF MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS : On the eve of

auspicious Durga Puja, new clothes and dresses were distributed

amongst under privileged senior citizens, students of Kala Kendra,

Andha Aloke Samiti, Nirmal Hriday Samity Asylum of Nakashiapara.

Through out the year Kalyania distributes old clothes, spectacles and

other donated materials to the needy.

JOINT VENTURE : Besides the encouragement of numerous noble

souls Kalyania has also been getting the direct and indirect support of

various Govt. and Private Organisations. Some Organisations,

Institutions and Individuals deserve special mention, they are - Kalyani

We are elated to thank the well-wishers of Kalyania and its

and private organizations who have inspired us to stick to our goal.

I thank the doctors and support staff of Kalyania Charitable Clinic for

Please do not throwaway your books you do not need in yourhouse. Kalyania will gratefully collect them from your house and maintain them in its library. Children’s books are most in need.Generous donations are solicited for developing a routine diagnostic clinic, hypertension, E.C.G. and other chronic disease.Donations can be made for the purpose of commemorating a departed soul and also for celebrating a birthday of an individual every year by giving a suitable one-time grant of annual donations.Donations to meet the expenses of incentives to volunteer teaching and or Sahaayikas will add to improvements in the education module.
