MIKE HIGUERA, Superintendent at Carmel Valley Ranch GC, recently rebuilt his 13th tee. He built a 161 high redwood retaining wall and doubled the tee space.

GURMIT SANDHU recently rebuilt his #7 green at Orinda CC. He lifted the sod, removed the old soil, added drainage and sand mix, and resodded. The time it took from the start of reconstruction to being in play was 21 days.

TOM THATCHER at Stanford GC is rebuilding #13 and #6 tees. The work is being put in along with the planting of over 200 trees and a snack shack.

HOST SUPERINTENDENT

Brian is a graduate from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. in Park Administration. He did his internship at Riviera Country Club and worked at Rancho California (now Rain-bow Canyon Golf Resort) in Temecula while attending college. He became Assistant Superintendent at Calabassas CC in Sept. of 1978 and Superintendent at Candlewood CC in Whittier in March of 1979. It was then on to Silverado in May of 1980 as the Assistant. Brian became the Superintendent in October of the same year.

Brian became certified through GCSAA the first part of 1984.

Persons with f!CGCSfl after their names are "CERTIFIED GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENTSff by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

To earn the title of "Certified Golf Course Superintendent" the individual must demonstrate significant experience in golf course management, and, in addition, prove academic

capabilities by passing a comprehensive written examination covering every facet of the profession.

Attaining Certified status is no minor accomplishment. Successful completion of the Certification process indicates the individual's willingness to be judged by the standards of his fellow professionals and assume a position of leadership in the game of golf.

Eligibility standards: a. Require a two-year period as a GCSAA Class A member and currently be

employed as a Superintendent b. Have two attestors visit the golf course during the growing season to

Certified status expires 5 years from effective date. To renew one must accumulate at least 15 CEUfs. These points may be a combination of the following: a. GCSAA Conference Attendance 2 CEU's

b. GCSAA Seminar Attendance 2 CEU's for 2 day, 1 CEU for 1 day c. CPR training 1 CEU through American Red Cross or Heart Assoc. d. Attendance at Regional Turfgrass Conferences and Research
